If the SEC raids the ACC and takes Clemson, Miami and FSU, Does that push Notre Dame to the BIG?

It could make it easier for ND to get out of the contractual obligation to join the ACC if they decide to give up football independence and join a conference. ND could argue that if any school leaves the ACC then the conference with whom they made the agreement no longer exists And is, therefore, invalid.

the ACC isn’t getting raided…the SEC really has no “soon” options and since the SEC is never expanding west of the state of Texas, that leaves only the B1G as the driver of “soon” expansion. PAC beware…your days are numbered.

not sure how Clemson isnt a "soon" option.

This is about ESPN vs Fox, not so much SEC vs Big Ten.

ESPN would rather have clemson in the SEC

What happens to Clemson when Dabo takes the Bama job after Saban retires.

When he says "soon" option I'm guessing he's talking about the ACC GOR and those aren't expiring soon. Until there's some precedent of figuring out how to break them or get around them, it won't be soon.

Dissolution of the ACC might be the only option and that could take either 8 or maybe 11 members. How likely is that? 8? Maybe-ish but 11 is very unlikely as a group of WF/Cuse/BC/Louisville could block that on their own.

Couple things:

1. Dabo isn't leaving - he'd be insane to take the Bama job after Saban retires, literally nuts. Has it good at Clemson, real good

2. ND to the B1G is the first domino to fall from what I've heard - after that it's FSU / Clemson to the SEC, and possibly others elsewhere (timeframe varies due to GOR issues, which is absolutely what's holding this all up)

3. ACC is absolutely getting raided (pending GOR litigation / fixes, again timeline could be 1-2 years or less/more). FSU, Clemson, UNC, Miami and others have significant value. BC, Cuse, Wake, etc. will not be included in the new B1G/SEC

4. SEC soon options are in reaction to B1G additions / GOR resolution. SEC has list of teams they want to add, ACC teams have already reached out

5. It's absolutely ESPN (Disney) vs. Fox. SEC vs. B1G. The leftovers from the Pac, B12, and ACC will form 1-2 other conferences (I'd assume 2 for geography sake), however payouts are expected to be significantly lower than the big 2

My initial thought was 2025-2026 is when we'd see significant movement, but with OU/UT and USC/UCLA making moves already, and more apparently on the horizon, the super conference scenario could happen sooner rather than later

Explain why the SEC would want Clemson, FSU and Miami. I get why they want in ($). The only thing I can think of is keeping the Big 10 from breaking into the SE

I wouldn't be surprised if SEC went for Oregon/Washington or North Carolina/Virginia if the BIG10 is not proactive.

ACC is absolutely getting raided??? ? GOR litigation will take 3+ years to settle for anyone but ND . and what happens to the JV of ESPN & ACC network?

Could take 3 years
Could be 2
Could get settled out of court
Espn / Disney running things - whatever makes sense $ wise is what will happen
GOR legit obstacle, network not so much

I don’t think Clemson / FSU or Miami fit culturally in the Big 10. Only current / future SEC schools that I believe fit culturally in Big 10 are Texas / A&M and Vandy -maybe Missouri. If Big 10 gets in to SE - it ll be UVA / UNC - and maybe Duke as a partner for UNC. and possibly G Tech.

FSU / Clemson / VT / NC state fit SEC

UVA / UNC / Duke / Pitt fit B1G

Miami / GT weird - Both fit in either but not totally odvious, definitely not a natural fit

Not to say they’ll all have a seat at table, but culturally these are where they fit IMO

Got a big Clemson booster buddy who is connected via his fraternity to multiple Clemson board members. While they will never say this out loud, the preference would be the B1G over the SEC.

here was one of my buddy’s text that I thought was funny.

Other than that, I think a Clemson entry into Big 10 would help diversify the conference …. Specifically, bourbon, bow ties, sundresses merge with jeans and hoodies …. Both cultures will benefit

Depends on how many teams get poached. Since this is about football, it Doesn’t seem the Big10 would want both of them unless there’s $ value in being a 24 team league.

Can SEC raid OSU and Michigan from the Big Ten?

If they are gone, there is no Big Ten. It will be Small Ten.

Why would they want to leave a conference they run? Who do you think is making these decisions?
Disagree. Why did Texas leave a conference they run ? Or USC ? If the SEC/ media network makes ‘an offer they can’t refuse’ then OSU and Michigan will leave too. Always depends on the finances.

The Big 10 Conference will make as much or more then the SEC, the SEC doesn’t have the ability to offer them anything they don’t already have. They are in a preeminent conference, not a dying one like Texas and USC.

In this round of media payout, sure from what we are reading the Big10s deal will top the current SEC deal.

But I am sure the SECs next deal would top the Big10s deal if OSU and Michigan were in the fold.

Finances change, that’s why poaching happens in the first place. People rightly point out that Rutgers won’t get booted. What they don’t realize is the conference can someday lose its big boys just like the B12 and P12 just did.

The future is always uncertain

In the future, of course anything is possible. But OSU and Michigan value academics, and have little in common with most of the SEC schools. And the BIG controls the largest media markets, we don’t have to carry places like Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri. I would say the BIG is in great shape right now.

But Unc isn't splitting from Duke - I'd be shocked
UNC Duke is a basketball rivalry…except for maybe lacrosse, UNC Duke in any other sport barely registers past the Carolina’s. They do not need to be in the same conference to play each other in basketball…if UNC is coveted by some other conference their tie to Duke will play no role…

Sports Illustrated is out with its predictions. Three 20 Team Conferences- SEC, B1G and Big 12. They predict ND, Stanford, Oregon and Washington will join B1G. SEC WILLpick up Clemson, NC, Duke and Florida St. Big 12 will pick up from remnants of PAC and ACC. They have RU securely in B1G ( for those who thought otherwise). They also predict little or no out of conference scheduling. The 20 team conferences would be divided into 4 five team pods. Teams would play everyone in their pods and on rotating basis teams from the other pods.

I predicted 4 five team pods too, except the Big10 takes UNC and UVA instead of the ducks and huskies, who go to the merged P10,B12. SEC takes Miami, FSU, Clemson and maybe NC St. Duke would be much more out of place in the SEC than Vandy is now

That sounds awful!!

Could push Notre Dame to the SEC.

Academically, they'd be better off in the Big Ten but ESPN/ABC loves the SEC and has invested heavily in it and will support it/push it/market it like no one else.

I think the Big Ten should make a deal with NBC like they have a deal with Fox Sports. Tell them they can broadcast Notre Dame's ROAD games in the Big Ten like they do their home games. For financial considerations/sharing revenues of course. Or maybe half their road games so both BTN and FoxSports can directly benefit as well. There has to be a deal there somewhere so Notre Dame can keep their NBC deal and the Big Ten can benefit and keep Notre Dame away from other conferences/networks.
