Ohio State spent a reported $23M on this year’s team. Half of the $EC spent $10-15M
When people say IU or whoever else turned it around they are not realizing that we do not have a fanbase doing this.
Why don't we have depth? OK. What players is RU going to outbid others on that are B1G caliber?

That is why Indiana is not a developmental school. They are a semi-pro school. Every one of their upper classmen are from another school. I looked at the first few and stopped looking

Is that more than Rutgers? Or? In the New York area that should be peanuts, is there a collective set up? Go after corporations not fans, Rutgers never had a fan base let alone one willing to give up their money. Cost of living in this area is too high, basketball team managed to get some big guns because of big businesses recognizing the opportunities of having stars in this area. They need to create a position if they don't have one already that can solicit some corporations. Not being able to put 2 million together in the big ten in the freaking NYC area is nuts...can't even fill up a 50,000 seat stadium, it's not going to come from the fans...
Rutgers would have to buy a top tier QB and a couple lineman and they would be a good team and Schiano would look like COTY. We are set at WR (unless someone buys them from us) and RB.

Rourke went out at halftime after his hand got hit..broken thumbnail or something they said. Jackson did a nice job filling in the second half. Going to be another big test for them to try and pull it out with the backup. Don’t know how long Rourke is out but suppose to be back this season.
Big Noon yesterday and CGD next week, nice little run of publicity for them.

Money has increased importance in college athletics with NIL and the transfer portal.Rutgers always had problems attracting funding for coaching staffs and sport facilities.The problem is only getting worse with the addition of the four west coast teams who have the name recognition and financial backing to probably be more successfully than Rutgers .Winning hasn't been easy since joining the B1G Ten Conference,Finishing in the top ten league rankings will be a challenge for many Rutgers teams.Fund raising clearly will be impacted and fan reaction will be similar to what we have heard for many years/decades.
For Rutgers to consistently win, fans are going to have to pony up. There’s no way around it.

Rutgers never had fans unfortunately.....they need to create a position that can solicit big money...
Even if they crash, they’re having a hell of ride so far this year that we had hoped for. 7-0, Gameday visit, darkhorse for the playoff and the talk of college football right now. All things we would take in a heartbeat, even if it was a one year wonder crash and burn……I’ll take that 8 days a week for RU, so will Indiana football fans who have enjoyed losing seasons 26 out of the last 30 seasons.

You can't depend on fans for the money that's needed; it's too much to ask. Chicken or the egg? Rutgers needs to give fans something to cheer about, then they'll come. The money has to come from large coffers. Why can't Rutgers compete financially with other schools? Keep asking questions like that, and maybe you'll find the stumbling blocks.

If so, then it appears just about every Big Ten program is ahead of us.
You make a good argument that perhaps HC GS isn't the correct coach for our situation.
Seems he would be more success at a program that can provide the resources he requires.
We need a HC who doesn't require those resources. Whomever that may be.
I mean, outside of the kids from Clemson and Tennessee those aren't exactly talent hotbeds. Also Cignetti came from JMU where a couple of those kids followed him.
Why does that matter because you said "We have better talent than Notre Dame. Better talent than Alabama. Better talent than USC.". So with that much talent why does it matter how much NLI is being spent?
That’s a quixotic quest. RU can raise enough money from fans to fund MBB NILs but it takes a LOT more money to fund a competitive FB team. Too much money to expect from the current fanbase. That much money is going to have to come from corporate/business sponsors. And I don’t see much of that happening today.

Can RU raise enough money for MBB from the fans? Harper/Bailey $$ didn’t come from RU fan base and Pike said he had many option at the center position but didn’t have $$$ to bring one in.
mccord also wanted an easy schedule so he could rack up gaudy numbers and wanted to be guaranteed the starting job.
They will next year as well and if that doesn’t work they will spend 15. They will reach the mountain top again because they have actual fans that care.

NIL would have ensured appropriate levels of depth, which we are lacking. Injuries have hurt us immensely.

I think it’s understood that RU is not going to be able to attract difference makers at this level in the NIL market. That doesn’t explain why we have two 3rd year LBs (one of whom was a high 4 star recruit) who have a difficult time being in proper position or unable to make plays in space against B1G competition. Also why there are so few DL and DB backups that can replace ailing starters and not cause a big drop off in level of play.
