I'm not aware of the MLB, NHL, or NFL ratings these past couple of months, but I'd venture to say that the lack of fans has something to do with the NBA's horrendous TV ratings (politics aside). Fans at home just don't have the same emotional attachment to the game without the crowds. League owners know this which is why they all pipe in those dopey crowd participation soundtracks.
