Can't believe that Rutgers "Big Ten" rep signed off on the graduate transfer of experienced Iowa QB Jake Rudock to Michigan with immediate eligibility. Doesn't make sense for Michigan's Big Ten football opponents. Hopefully one of the Rutgers beat reporters gets Coach Flood's take on the situation.

Rudock gets waiver

does it surprise you that the schools did what was best for the kids career instead of self interest?

He would have no comment.

The interests of the league and its programs come before the individual. Transfers like this can easily be contrived, with plenty of skullduggery.

Redshirted in 2011, didn't see action in 2012 , was starter 2013 and 2014.
Granted waiver because he's a graduate transfer and his eligibility would have run out if the B1G didn't grant the inter conference transfer waiver.
Iowa had to OK inter-conference transfer , so think the Hawkeyes were looking out for Rudock more than themselves.

My first question...if he was starter in 13 and 14, why doesn't he stay at Iowa for his 5th year?

If it is really because Michigan offers the post grad degree he wants and Iowa doesn't, then it is a class move by everyone. But that is rarely the true reason. Would love the insight

No...as said player could have transferred and been eligible immediately at any of the other 106 plus Div I-A schools and/or dozens and dozens and dozens of Div I-AA schools.

No doubt this move was done to "help" Michigan improve quicker...which would help the Big Ten's profile/exposure.

Not sure if a move like this would have been improved if QB wanted to go to say Ohio State (doesn't need "help" at QB) or even Wisconsin.

Big Ten WANTS Big Blue to comeback strong...and faster the better.

Now that the Big Ten has allowed this transfer, it will open the door for any other Big Ten Grad with a year of eligibility left to also transfer and become eligible immediately (in football AND basketball) and I could see the top programs using this type of move to basically recruit (under the table) and grab a star player off "bad" Big Ten teams to fill in needed spots on better teams.

In more important news- knightlite? How in the heck has it escaped us that you have 93k posts?

This is a grad transfer, which already is under a different set of rules. They can transfer among FBS schools and retain immediate eligibility.

The other thing is that Iowa itself agreed to allow the transfer.

Agree :That's the point I'm making .
Not looking into conspiracy theories, except with all the complaining of how student/athletes were treated before,
the major conferences and the NCAA are changing how they do things and graduate transfers between conference schools not having to sit for a year and treated like OOC transfer might be one of them.
Another reason might be Delaney knows he would lose a lawsuit about issues like this and make decisions like this one based on the support or opposition of the school players is transferring from.

quietly, Harbaugh has built some depth at qb, Gentry is a big time recruit, O'Korn everyone forgets who transferred from Houston, had a big frosh year, and now Jake. as far as grad transfers goes, anyone know if that TCU receiver Cam White is still coming to RU?

Bottom line: This is a gift to Michigan that Michigan's 2015 Big Ten football opponents can't be happy about.

It's an opportunity for the guy to get what is probably an excellent master's degree for free. I don't begrudge him that.

White is not coming to RU.

When do you think we see the first time that Penn State coach James Franklin and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer allows one of their experienced NJ players move as a graduate transfer to Rutgers?

From Big Ten mailbox, Tom Dienhart's take on the situation ...

So, Iowa QB Jake Rudock is going to transfer to Michigan. Thoughts? - Joe B.

A good situation for both parties. Rudock was second-team at Iowa following the program's bowl loss to Tennessee, as C.J. Beathard was anointed the top spot. Now, Rudock can play his fifth season at Michigan, a school in its first year under Jim Harbaugh that needs help at quarterback. Rudock could serve as a nice bridge for one season while Harbaugh and Co., develop the position.

Rudock is a known commodity who started for two years at Iowa. And, the Wolverines lack known commodities under center with the likes of Shane Morris, Alex Malzone, Wilton Speight or Zach Gentry, among others. In the end, it will be a surprise if Rudock isn't the starter in 2015. He's been there … he's done that … he's a safe choice.

I don't think so. The precedent was set before this. In the past the B1G has allowed approved waivers if both schools involved agreed to it. Iowa signed off on the move. So if schools have a problem with it in the future then they can oppose it and the wavier will not be granted.

So you think Delaney was involved? Really!
