if there is a beer named Winning, it should be sold at Rutgers basketball & football games. I assume, like parking, first time imbibers will have to register with campus officials ahead of the event.
So you create space.there is absolutely no space in the RAC for beer to be sold..bad idea
So you create space.
Instant revenue flow. More $. Nobody should be complaining.
I have intoxicated fans next to me at the stadium already, so there's no difference. And yeah, this is necessary. The 50+ other schools that have implemented this have actually seen a decline in bad behavior by fans. Read the report.Until there is an intoxicated fan(s) near you. If we thought it was OK to sell alcohol we would have done it years ago. This is a money grab. Perhaps it was a money grab that we had to take. As i said in another thread if the day the athletic department has to be self sufficient is coming this might have been necessary.
Wrong. Not bad. VERY bad.there is absolutely no space in the RAC for beer to be sold..bad idea
So the other schools that do this got it right, but we can't? Loser mentality.Wrong. Not bad. VERY bad.
That’s a joke and totally irrelevant for basketball games at the RAC anyway. Instead of being jammed into the RAC around obnoxious opposing fans we’ll have drunk obnoxious fans spilling beer. Wonderful.I have intoxicated fans next to me at the stadium already, so there's no difference. And yeah, this is necessary. The 50+ other schools that have implemented this have actually seen a decline in bad behavior by fans. Read the report.
Who says they got it right? A report from Rutgers justifying their new policy? Serve alcohol and bad behavior is reduced. Yeah, okay.So the other schools that do this got it right, but we can't? Loser mentality.
Rutgers didn’t write the report. And read it instead of spewing random nonsense.Who says they got it right? A report from Rutgers justifying their new policy? Serve alcohol and bad behavior is reduced. Yeah, okay.
Only the basketball programs are leaving the RAC. Baseball, softball, field hockey, track, etc still need to use that.Maybe when the weight room is moved they'll make that space a beer/restaurant?
True. A study by Rutgers Student Senate said it decreased. And RU Chief of Police cited reports from other Big Ten schools who also chose to go this route that claim this. Not exactly unbiased sources. And if they have less arrests in the parking lot because they’re selling beer in the stadium I couldn’t care less because I care about what happens in the stadium where I’m stuck sitting near these people.Rutgers didn’t write the report. And read it instead of spewing random nonsense.

I had a soda spilled on me once. So I guess we should ban drinks altogether then.other schools do not have cramped arena
Soon? 2027! That’s not soon.there isnt any..have you been....terrible idea, we are getting tons of money soon...maybe the AD could have saved some by firing the gymnastics coach in an appropriate way
Soon? 2027! That’s not soon.
Stadium, RAC, Yurcak, Bainton Field. Is this happening? Or news was just football stadium? Great news if true, my kids getting tired of stuffing their pockets with airplane minis.
"Alcohol management training" is laughableState excise laws will be followed and the below policies will be among those enforced as part of a complete alcohol management plan:
- Valid I.D. is required for purchase. All guests must be 21 years of age to purchase an alcoholic beverage.
- There is a two alcoholic beverage limit, per person, per transaction. Sales will be cut-off at designated times that are pre-determined.
- All game and event staff management will be required to complete alcohol management training. Trained security staff will serve as alcohol monitors in venue and at points of sale.
- Venues will employ designated alcohol-free zones.
Complaints and more complaints."Alcohol management training" is laughable
I stopped using my debit card because 75% of time operator doesn't know how to use it.
Just tell them if the buyer is naked probably should be cut off. Otherwise good to go.
Actually beer was sold in the RAC when the NJ Nets played there from 1977-81. Beer was also sold at concerts from 1977- IIRC until the University put the kibosh on alcohol sales (maybe late 1980's). RU will find several spots to sell the suds.there is absolutely no space in the RAC for beer to be sold..bad idea
Believe me, when there are tips involved - and there usually are with beer sales - there will be limited employees "dedicated" to each beer stand and properly trained in swiping on the handhelds."Alcohol management training" is laughable

Yes approximately $17 mil. in 2021. But with having to pay back the loan that will slash that number to $14 mil. a year. Add in escalating coaching and maintenance costs(new practice facility) and elimination of direct institutional support in 2021 (about $17 mil.- $2mil stays for Title IX requirements) and you're not looking at any beans left. Thus why the CSS athletic report stipulated additional sources of revenue must be found.we are getting alot more before that
Rutgers paid for it to say what they wanted it to say. That’s how these things work.Rutgers didn’t write the report. And read it instead of spewing random nonsense.
That’s just part of it...no more volunteers for this. This will be another layer that has to be taken care of along with the additional security (Rutgers and outside law enforcement) that will evidently be needed for this...because that’s how we roll. LOLI understand the $$ grab, but it's a bad idea. Just asking for trouble. And you'll need professionals to provide the alcohol. So does that mean they will completely privatize the concessions? That could actually work in the fans favor. Most of the times the volunteers can't get the right soda. Imagine if they're allowed to provide beer?
But the numbers don't lie. Our 2021 payout is now down to $41 mil. a gain of only $17 mil. Direct institutional support elimination will take $15 mil. of that, pay back the loan another $3 mil., increased coaching salaries and new practice facility maintenance. That's why the report said without University backing additional revenue sources must be found.Rutgers paid for it to say what they wanted it to say. That’s how these things work.
I knew (without reading it) as soon as we heard about it this was going to be one of the “suggestions” put forth in the report. It was only a matter of time.

And they came up with the beer sales idea on their own?But the numbers don't lie. Our 2021 payout is now down to $41 mil. a gain of only $17 mil. Different, less pleasant, less friendly atmosphere. So you create space.

That I have no idea who came up with the idea, was it CSS or our Administration? Most likely ours gave a guiding hand like you suggest. But those in charge have to sign off on it. If we weren't in the numbers crunch to keep Barchi's and the BOG's direct institutional support elimination(really need to come up with an acronym for that:)) timeline intact I have a hard time believing he signs off on this. And they came up with the beer sales idea on their own?
Okay.
Yes 2021 is the set date. Once Barchi and the BOG came up with this date it has been set in stone and they have not budged one ounce. It was supposed to coincide with our full payout. However that was just a pipe dream as we've been taking loans since the inception of our B1G payout. Now full payout isn't till 2027. So we're in worse do do than many of us expected till then. The CSS athletic report laid this all out finally. Is there a year in stone where we have to be off of "instiutional support." i see 2021 is that a set date?
Rutgers didn’t write the report. And read it instead of spewing random nonsense.
And with this 2027 date doesn’t it just make sense this is one of suggestions “they” came up with? That I have no idea who came up with the idea, was it CSS or our Administration? So I'm sure Hobbs exhausted all options at this point and decided to implement this. As far as revenue is concerned Purdue is a good indicator. 1st year in limited sales net gross $580K, 2nd year in expanded sales $1.1 mil. net gross.
