Is there a place in central NJ to get fresh squeezed apple cider? I feel like having apple cider but not the processed kind from the grocery store.

I don't know if you'd consider this central NJ but Wightman's Farms in Morristown has great cider.

Alstede's Farm, Chester. One of the best fall farm experiences out there. Pick your own apples, pumpkins, rides and Zoo for the kids, corn maze, pony rides. And of course, fresh cider!!!!!!!!

Thanks! I am in range of all these places except for Morristown which is a little to far.

There's easily a dozen places in Western Monmouth county. Just drive down Route 33 or 537.

Sorry avoid Alstedes too commercialized and way way too many people. Great place 10 yrs ago too crowded now

Went to Alstedes last year.. Awful time

Insanely crowded, very expensive, surly people working there, and all of the apples were picked over.. There was very little even worth taking

The kids, who usually like these things, hated it even more than I did

Will never go back

Alstedes is a disaster and believe they murdered a kid last fall. Chester gets a cut though so nothing will change.

Solebury Orchards in New Hope, PA makes some really good cider. Just right over the bridge from central NJ.

Battleview orchards in Freehold. Used to go there every year when I lived down there. Now I go to Pennings in Warwick NY now that I live in Northern NJ. They have the best Mutsu apples in the world at Pennings.

Another vote for Terhune Orchards for fresh cider. Great family that runs it too.

15 years ago we really enjoyed going to Warwick New York to pick apples and Enjoy the fall festivities with the kids. In recent years, however, most of the orchards now view autumn as a huge seasonal moneymaker. Most of the orchards are now over commercialized and money grubbing enterprises. It's a real shame. Last year we tried to visit an orchard in Chester, After being stuck in a traffic jam for an hour and a half on the way to the orchard, we turned around and went home. It's just not worth it.

I have no further input on the OP's question, but I do have a question of my own. Do people really consider Morristown and Chester "Central NJ"? Where do you all live?

I grew up in the Chester area and now live near Hightstown, which is in the ACTUAL center of NJ. Morristown and Chester are way up north by comparison.

is everyone going apple picking on the bye week

Oh, yes on the way back from some clothes shopping for the Hunt.

Growing up in Monmouth County and living many years in Union County while working in Bergen County many locals there seemed to think anything below Newark Airport was South Jersey.

Sorry - from a local perspective Alstede's has become a tourist trap. Overpriced and over-crowded with little control or regulations. A toddler was killed last year and others injured by one of the transport buses.

In the Chester area the best places to go for cider are Hacklebarney Farms Cider Mill and Melick's Farm/Orchard - both in Long Valley.

Growing up my dad always used to take us to Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck on the drive down the Shore. It's turned into more of a Market these days - but the Cider and Baked goods are still worth it.

That's your opinion, maybe its crowded because its a fun place to bring your kids.

Plenty to do, and lots of room to spread out, so having people there is no issue.

Agree on Terhune - if you want more than buying cider, they do charge you to get in (apple picking, etc)...

While its true there was an unfortunate tragic accident, it is not true that there is little control. The alstedes have been working with the town to control traffic, and it has been way better the last few years. They also hire many people to help with parking and have instituted many safety measures.

If you have any of the facts of the tragic accident, you would know that it had nothing to do with "regulations or control" but then again, SL type reporting is par for the course around here.

You have a stake in the farm or something? A little overly defensive of a friendly recommendation, methinks.

Delicious Orchards they were a part of Saturdays Tailgate, its not cheap but its unbelievable good. If your lucky you might run into some celebs, more so on week days I've seen Bruce and Patti, Johnny B, and Giraldo Rivera there over the years

I have no issue with a "friendly recommendation" or opinion. Obviously everybody has their favorite farm for fall activities. I have gone to many myself and they all have their good and bad points. But if you read the post I responded to, it essentially blames a tragic accident on "no control or regulations" And that is simply not true and since the author of that post thought it was ok to misinform the board, I was simply pointing out that I believe he is misinformed.
