Issa dismissed from team.

Maybe this relationship was part of the reason for his poor play. Who knows. It does open up a roster spot though.

Strange take, abusers are abusers not sure we need to make excuses for his behavior or play.

I especially feel sorry for the victim but Issa definitely disrupted his life as well. I cannot ever imagine hitting a female. I was married for 40 years to my wife and she meant everything to me. She passed away almost 5 years ago now. We loved & respected each other. In 30 months of dating we never even had one disagreement. In 40 years of marriage we hardly ever disagreed but if we did it was always over within a few minutes. When we married we made a promise to one another to never go to sleep mad at the other. We always kissed each other before going to sleep. I know how lucky I was and I realize this was probably quite rare but I loved my wife dearly & forever.

Sounds like the two of you were gifts to each other. In today's world that's extremely rare. Sorry for your loss.

I don’t think of people as purely good or purely evil but I’d like to think that it is a rare exception of a person who would do what he is accused of. I’ll give you that we don’t know what is going on in his life that could have led to him potentially “snapping”. So, in that context, the situation is sad.

However, If this is true, I am more sad for the girl whose life was supposedly threatened with a knife and was slapped repeatedly.

I was hoping that the allegations weren't true, but it looks like that's out the window now (no pun intended).

I have a daughter at RU, and the thought of something like this happening to her... Rage is not a strong enough word. An effed up situation all around.

I don’t get all the sympathy for the perp. That would be Issa, not the woman who is the victim.

This was not his first experience in threatening the woman with a knife, according to the story.

Hope he gets another chance somewhere else. But he has anger management issues and appears to be a violent person off the court. See ya.

Headline news on 101.5. Unfortunately they got last name wrong saying Thighum

Art,
as you know my late mother and dad got to know the both of you and spoke often how wonderful was your late wife....My mother was quite saddened when she passed. May they all rest in peace.....
Jon

It was the many drips before that overflowed the cup that caused this. Nonetheless, Thiam made mistakes and will now be tried by the law. I hope he learns his lesson and is able to live a life with more awareness of how his actions have consequences.

Jon S and Colbert17, Thank you for the kind words. Jon, Your mom & dad were such nice people. Your mom just adored Denise. I miss all 3 of them. Your parents made RU games so much more enjoyable. I hope you are well. I attended practice again yesterday and I was told that the Issa incident did have an affect on our team. It is only natural for this to happen. The guys are psyched for Wednesday. I hope they can get the win.

Hopefully Issa can be rehabilitated. Unfortunately there are a lot of people like him, many that we all may know (no one in particular) and would have no idea they would have this in them.

Having said all of this you have to feel many more times worse for the victim.

Just sad all around.

I stated that it was innocent until proven guilty

Now that we have heard a lot more of the story...its just a sad sitiation and it does look bad for thiam.

- sad situation

- the right moves have been made in a proper time period

- As I said it in the thread yesterday, if I recall correctly, these kids are young hopefully they got the shitty game out of their system on Sunday and are ready to go tomorrow night!

- That’s hope coach uses this open scholarship for the team’s benefit next season

If he's found guilty on any charge he may get a 2nd chance in Senegal but not here in the US. He's now dismissed from the team next is school then he's deported.

How do we know this?

I believe that Issa played hs ball in the Canary Islands followed by a year in FL before enrolling at RU. So it’s been awhile since Senegal was home.

I’d like to understand the logic for deporting him. I wouldn’t want that. What evidence suggests that he gets deported and when?

I’d like to see him get another chance somewhere else.

are you serious?

He is not a us citizen and he was beating his girlfriend and threatened to kill her with a knife. the girl also implied this was not the first time. If true, Issa is a grade A a***hole who deserves to serve jail time then get deported. he ruined his name, the rutgers name also other immigrants like himself. i hope trump doesnt hear about this and make him the poster child for his wall efforts.

imagine this was your daughter.

Especially if it’s proven he has done this before.

Sorry, I’m not defending Issa, unlike others in this thread. I want him off the team permanently if even some of what we’ve read is true.

But won’t it take some time to determine the truth in this case? Remember the Leonte Carroo incident at HPSS after a game a few years back? Many of our board experts had that case wrapped up within 48 hours of the incident. Many were proven wrong over time.

Obviously I’m not the one to decide if he gets kicked out of RU and/or deported. I believe that we are far away from those potential events.

I was asking if anyone knew the standard of evidence required to get Issa expelled and/or deported. Until we know that we are all speculating about the outcome, notwithstanding due process within the legal system for those involved.

Lol, the old Carroo case. Man, a few posters who claimed to know all sure came off looking like buffoons.

The total impact to the program wont be felt until the recruiting class fills out. With the open spot will we be able to fill with a quality player. Will we look for a one year stopgap since coaches have been recruiting according to when these scholarships should open up. Yes I feel sorry for the victim. Feel bad that Issa may have thrown away everything. But I also feel bad for his teammates and the staff

It has nothing to do with evidence. It has to do with his US visa being for school and to play basketball, not live and work. Not in school, not playing basketball = no visa. So it doesn't really matter what comes out of the justice system on the matter. As soon as he is kicked out of school he is in jeopardy of deportation. There are avenues to appeal or get a new visa issued, no idea if any of that is at play here.

I don't think the team would have won in Indiana if this didn't happen, but if you don't think this affected the team negatively, you didn't play organized sports.

It will linger into the next game too.

It absolutely affected them against Indiana, although they’ve had a few days to calm down before the B1G tournament starts. There is no way that traveling as a team without Issa will be normal for the young players.

Well, he's still innocent until proven guilty.

I agree...but the reality is that the dismissal from the team ...who should have more of the real story ...should have enough details based on fact to warrant that decision

I’m gojng to go on the assumption that the school did the right thing based on facts they know that we don’t

Can’t imagine them dismissing so quickly unless the actions done by thiam were that egregious that a dismissal was warranted

Especially in the litigious age ....

Just read where he's been dismissed from Rutgers, his passport pulled and he's banned from the Rutgers campus. Seems that deportation is next. Apparently this was not an isolated incident with him. Sad all around.

Agreed that if true there's no sympathy for Thiam and he should be harshly punished. Having said that, there are usually 3 sides to every story, especially in emotionally-charged domestic dispute cases. His side, her side and the truth. Time will tell.

First of all if he's guilty as charged, let his second chance be after he's deported.
But until then I won't argue with you and will say:
a lot of times witnesses ( those making accusations) exaggerate what really happened and the arresting officers go by that.
Then the prosecutors beef up charges adding everything they can, in an effort to get the accused accept a plea deal for a lighter sentence on the lesser charges being faced with the major charges being dropped.
The terrorism charge could be dropped or made into something that doesn't make Issa look like a monster in order to get him to accept a plea deal.

Could be the prosecutor would drop any felony charges into misdemeanor offenses so Issa won't get deported if he pleads guilty to them in a plea bargain agreement .

It does look bad, but there is time to hear all the facts before his court date, so rushing to judgement and saying he is a monster should wait till his court date proves he is.
Or maybe ( like the RU WBB player charged with domestic assault) Issa will have those charges dropped before his court date arrives.

I'm for indefinite suspension, until he steps into the courtroom and once that happens then dismiss him and have him take his chances of jail and/or being deported base on the outcome of his trial.
To often before the trial I've heard hang the accused, but when everything comes to light, sometimes it wasn't a hanging offense

I'm sure he has heard about it by now and makes him a poster child,
Let's clean up the mess we have made in this country, before we
get misty eyed over people that have to be sent back. I spent a zillion
dollars on my three kids college. Never got a free ride for any of them.
The shot at Trump is out of line.
