Issa Thiam to Rutgers

Welcome to the Banks, Mr. Thiam!!! I hope you have a great time on and off the court.

This makes three oral commitments so far. Hopefully we can land a fourth with a big guy who can score and rebound. Issa is supposedly a good outside shooter who is 6'8" or 6'9" tall. This is some good news which will really need.

This was a done deal for some time. His CBA coach, Rob Orellana (Robo) doesn't want his players to sign NLI's in the fall.

This is very good news. We need a 3/4 with size who can shoot.

I like this kids game. Jordan has to make it priority to put 30 pounds on his frame by next season.

Or he can just play at Kevin Durant's college weight and be just fine....Seriously, I get your point Higgins. He needs some weight and I'm sure that the "unlimited" amount of food available at the Dining Halls will do just that...lol

I know you've seen him in person. Is there anything that you can share with us about his play?

In 4 games in 2014-15, he averaged 28.6 from 3, 5.5 rebounds on a 21.4 mpg clip.

I know Shoes keeps in contacts with these coaches in the Canaris. Just saw a video of him. At 6 8, he is probably about 175-185 pound. Definitely needs weight. He should be around 215-220, at least. Seems to have a decent handle for his size, keeps it close.

Good man defense for his size. Knows how to keep sight of ball and man on help defense. In general, he gets to the right position on the floor for rebounds. Size is definitely his issue. For a guy 6 8 though, his defense is impressive. He seems to run the floor well. At this game I saw him in, he was 16 or 17. The competition was pretty decent. Lots of tall kids with some speed.

A part of me thinks that we keep in touch with this player, but still have an option we are scoping before him(providence day). Thiam would be a slight project who would definitely need a livingston dining hall 4 credit course. After that, I like his focus on defense and willingness to get to spots and run the floor. Height is there.

Just for our fans, that is something I wrote a while back. I would like to see what Scarletlojngisland thought of him.

I think he has great potential. It is hard to find information about these players overseas, though.

Thanks that was very informative. Where did you see video of him?

He has a couple videos on youtube. Only one or two of them they actually tell you what number he is on the court. I watched the videos and gave my assessment. I think he has great potential, but a good base and weight has to be added first. There is a reason Kevin Durant gets injured. He has a tall frame but a base that could use work.

4th ship needs to be a big/5.

That's a tricky one.

On the one hand, you already have Doorson and Diallo...but, they are coming off foot injuries. So, not taking another big is Risky.

On the other hand...if Jordan intends to play a more uptempo and wide open style, the last spot can go to another 6'6-6'8" player with length and long arms....Ohams ?

I hate to say it, but, based on recent events and playing time...a 5th spot may open up.
Goode?

If we don't get someone to add to Doorson/Diallo, we won't have much depth again at that position and will be undersized again with another injury.

Just wondering, is this a Goode thing?

I find it interesting that some of the most negative posters on here are nowhere to be found when Rutgers basketball actually gets some good news

I have been saying it all year....they scatter like Rats at the sight of positive news. Can't even acknowledge a good pickup that helps the team they supposedly love.

LET ME BE VERY CLEAR.....I have no knowledge whatsoever, but, it is becoming clear that he lacks confidence and is playing scared. I hope he snaps out it and starts taking shots.

Thanks. He also seems.to.lack the athleticism and skillset to play at this level. Probably better for him to drop down a level.
