"INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University has laid off 25 athletic department employees as it prepares for revenue sharing with athletes that is expected to begin this year, according to multiple reports.

The Indianapolis Star reported the employees were notified of the decision in a letter on Thursday, a story that was confirmed by The Associated Press on Monday. The person who confirmed the news to the AP requested anonymity because the school has not yet made a public announcement."

Rutgers may need to do the same AND cut some sports, especially if Title IX comes into play.

Why do they need to lay people off because of revenue sharing? The money is coming from the NCAA not from the AD

Headline should be "IU layoffs after doubling Football HC salary".

So they were fine adding nearly $4m/year in expenses with no layoffs.
But because of revenue sharing now they need to cut 10% of expenses?

This is the same as the Rutgers deficient nonsense.

You either care about the AD losing money or not.
The sudden alligator tears over increased player compensation expense is ludicrous.

And so it begins. Consequences. Intended or otherwise. These athletic departments and individual program staffs just like the rest of university administrations have been long overdue for a rationalization of their size. I was watching an Illinois basketball game the other day and I think Brad Underwood had a full second row of coaches. The ratio of coaches to players had to be very close to 1 to 1. While it may be unreasonable to expect athletic departments at most schools to generate revenue, large annual deficits should not be tolerated given the TV revenue streams coming in. Live within your means.
