Jacobs Transferring per NJ.com

Seems silly as he will not be a grad transfer and will have to sit out a year. With all the injuries we have had in the secondary there was a good chance he would see a good bit of time on the field this year. Anyway good luck and I thank him for his contributions over the past four years.

This is what happens when you hire a first time head coach without any NJ ties.

Per NJ.com:

"Jacobs seemed to fall behind on a safety depth chart full of younger players during spring practice. Senior Anthony Cioffi has the inside track on the strong safety job, while redshirt sophomores Saquan Hampton and Kiy Hester are competing for the starting free safety job. Sophomore Ronnie James impressed this spring after moving from cornerback, while redshirt junior Andre Hunt remains in the mix."

Cioffi = SS starter
Hester maybe (I gold star* Hampton so I am bias) but I see Kiy/Saquan fighting it out
Back ups definitely Hunt and James (I have not seen enough yet of Ronnie)
But Jacobs would be = to Hunt so why not stay?
hell one injury and he could be starting

* gold star = NSD I highlight a few players who I think will be starters and be star players. Success rate~70%

A troubling loss, given how DB depth was been an issue here for about 5 years.

Jacob, an academic-all conference selection, might graduate this summer and then play somewhere as a graduate transfer. Maybe Monmouth?

I hope he get his degree and graduate but it's not a troubling loss when he was part of the problem.

He was running with the 3's in spring, so it would take two injuries to start.

In nickel and dime packages he would have seen playing time especially later in the year as injuries mounted. I can understand his frustration.

Well his decision shows that our Safety positions might be the strongest part of the team.
A four star recruit Safety Hester might not even start this year.

this hurts special teams. Our specials need to be a huge priority again . We lead the nation in blocked kicks, thats an awesome stat that we need to wear with pride.
