Does anyone know the timetable for when Mr. Grant might get guidance for his decision on going to the NFL?

If he can go early in the draft, I think he should go (but I want to see him get a medical redshirt).
At this point, I see him as a high risk/high reward type player, but not someone that they would use a high pick on. Don't misunderstand, I think he is an exciting, electric player, but suffers from a small body of work. IF he comes back for another year, with more supporting players, he could prove to be dominant on both specials and from the line of scrimmage.

Just my opinion, was mostly curious when we might know what his decision might be.

Players may apply for an evaluation during the season, but typically it is done now (December). The deadline to apply for an evaluation is mid-December (although they will accept them without guaranteeing to do them if you miss the deadline up to the end of the year). The advisory board will send the player the report and the player will need to declare for the draft by mid-January (not sure what the exact dates is this year, but in the past it was December 15th to apply for evaluation and January 15th to apply for draft).

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Janarion reminds me of Jakeem Grant who was drafted in the 6th round by the Dolphins last year. Jakeem is 3 inches shorter though so Janarion could be a better prospect for sure. I think Janarion would benefit greatly coming back for another year proving he can still be the same player after the tough injury he had. Also I selfishly want him back :)

Season-ending injuries are really tough on draft prospects in general as teams are usually looking for players that can immediately impact the team in the first four rounds. On one hand, there is the Devin Hester/Josh Cribbs effect where the value of a stupendous return man skyrocketed, the change of the kickoff line for safety reasons knocked them back down. Additionally, while Grant looked pretty good as a receiver and runner, he hasn't had all that much production compared to peers.

All in all, it would likely be more beneficial for him to play another season at Rutgers but regardless I don't see him going any higher than the 3rd round in 2017 or 2018 even if he were to run in the Chris Johnson 40 time range.

If he is granted a medical redshirt is there any chance he has his degree in-hand and transfers to a higher profile program as a graduate transfer with immediate eligibility?

This^^^^^

Coming back to improve draft stock is unlikely. Coming back as personal preference because of other factors, maybe. But most likely a decision based on an NFL future would point to leaving early as the soundest advice. Starting the 1st contract as soon as possible.

This is spot on. I always thought of him as a TY Hilton type.

Has anyone ever done a study on guys who returned to college vs. guys who left (who weren't obvious high NFL draft picks) and if their leaving eventually turned out to be a good thing or a bad thing for their expected careers?

Hold on. As good a return man as Grant is he has NOWHERE near the resume that TY Hilton had as a receiver. And with his size coming off an injury the possibility of him going in the 3rd round is just about zero. I'd be surprised if he went in the 5th. This was the year he was supposed to burnish his credentials as a receiver and put an exclamation point on his return skills. That got derailed by his injury. In his case, returning for another year would give him an opportunity to pad his resume and ease any doubts. The price for that is the risk of injury.

Brandon Coleman's career path should be a good reference.

Janarion is such a great fit for this offense that I think one more year, healthy, and he can raise his profile substantially. I think he might end up being a great pick up for a team if he goes this year, but it would be at a much lower remuneration package. Tough decision for a great young man.

Hopefully we would have an answer about his medical redshirt exception before he has to make his decision to pursue the NFL Draft.

I love the guy but he isn't getting drafted. Doesn't mean that he can't play in the league though. He has a special skill that few guys have

Agree 100%. As someone said small body of work but has a great upside. See him as a potential dynamic NFL kick returner though.
All that being said, even though I wouldn't do it, I hope he comes back.
