Funny, PJ sounds like Chris Ash in some respects.

But I will take Jerry's word that PJ is a self-absorbed ass hat.

“Do I still root for the Gophers? I do. Do I enjoy him running up and down the sideline? No,” Kill said. “Do I think that he’s about the players? No. He’s about himself.”

"People who have known him before, when he got with Schiano, just his personality changed a lot. I knew his first wife (Fleck has since remarried), and he just changed a lot.
“Once he became a head coach, I mean, I helped him get the job at Western Michigan (Fleck’s first head coaching job), and I just think sometimes ego gets carried away. When he went into Minnesota and treated the people the way he treated my guys, telling that he had to go in and completely change the culture, it was a bad culture and bad people, he made it sound like we didn’t know what we were doing. And I took it personally. You just don’t treat people that have been with you and helped your career, and you don’t even talk to them, you know, once you get the job.”

ill was asked if he has ever addressed his issues with Fleck.
“Oh yeah. It wasn’t good,” he said, adding it was the last time he’s spoken to Fleck.
“And it will be the last time,” he added.

Ummm...

Isn't that what every head coach does?

Say generic stuff like "change the culture". Like Schiano did.....

Fleck might be your average flashy jock but these comments were kinda uncalled for. Especially mentioning his first wife/new wife to suggest the new one had something to do with his personality changing. WTF does that?

Let’s see how this plays out.

Bad form here from Kill.

Plus, didn't he have some players with highly questionable character issues at Minny?

The only thing he said that Fleck said that I consider a diss is, that the culture was bad. Every single new coach says they want to change the culture but that doesn't mean that the previous culture was bad. It is just a change.

Minnesota had a player revolt over players being suspended before Fleck took the job
So it would stand to reason PJ might want to change the culture that led too the suspensions and players threatening to boycott their bowl game because of their teammates receiving suspensions over an alleged sexual assault

To refresh memories :
The Minnesota football boycott ended when players read the investigation report - SBNation.com

Agreed.

Kill is a likeable guy, and probably doesn’t care that this makes me like him a little less, but ....”

Well, I’ll still like him; he’s human too I guess.

Kill is the best coach to ever step foot on the banks. Not debatable. I won’t argue fridge was second but kill was a stud. he’s exactly what RU needs to succeed in this league

Jerry Kill is incredibly well-liked and respected in football coaching circles. For him to say this, it says a lot more about Fleck then it does about Kill.

Fleck is a tool. He's a jerk. An arrogant, disrespectul douche who showed his true colors to Kill, who is a real straight shooter, and Kill is calling him out for it.

The just makes me respect Kill even more.

I don't think he was a great coach for us....not bad, maybe but definitely nothing special.

But I think he was so honest and open, I always said his approach with media, and the way he carried himself as a person was old-school cool.

No way he's going to take a showy, self absorbed newbie disrespecting him.

Where does he suggest that the new one had anything to do with Fleck's personality changing? If one wants to take an inference you could suppose that the first wife is among the multiple people that Kill knew who were around Fleck before "his personality changed a lot." Heck, if anything he sounds like he's saying ego/getting a head coaching gig changed the guy. But I don't see any accusation that his current wife is to blame.

Fridge in a landslide over Kill. Not even close.
Kill is 50 games over 500 as a head coach. Was 500 at Minnesota as a head coach and turned Around 4 programs with horrible histories.
Fridge is 25 games over 500 in a crappy ACC. Look, I’m not taking bad about fridge but minus health issues kill would have been special.

Fridge First

Love what Kill said.

I have zero problem with it.

When Kill talked to Fleck, Fleck must have really pissed him off.

And I give Kill the benefit of the doubt as he was always a straight shooter here and well respected.

As far as the wives go, my guess is Kill liked the 1st wife, and Fleck treated her poorly, so that was another data point that pissed Kill off.

Fleck comes across as a phony douchebag.

Bad look from Kill. I think he’s still upset with how Claeys was treated, as his 20+ year assistant and friend, but the culture at Minn needed to change and Fleck is doing that, douche or not.

I've said this before I think at best Fleck will match what was done before him and I'm not so sure he will and still hasn't done it. 3 out of 4 season .500 or better in conference and 3 out of 4 seasons 8 wins or better. The "mess" that was there isn't as big a deal as made out to be as @koleszar has explained here before.

Here are some of his posts referring to the situation

No he didn't, the original suspensions occurred after the Iowa game that year. They then proceeded to go 5-2. Then 10 players player's were suspended for the bowl game against Washington St.(8-4) they had the boycott but decided to play and they won 17-13. Out of all those suspended only 4 were expelled. Some 20 players were accused in this assault. They went 9-4 (5-4 B1G) that year.

Here's what you're not getting, even though those players were suspended they were still winning without them. How important could those 5 players have been if that's the case. Yes a mess for the school but not for the football program.

Well here's the thing about that scandal. They weren't in shambles after they were kicked off the team. That's a big misconception on your part. After week 5 when they were kicked off, they continued to go 5-2 in route to that 9-4 record. 5-2 is not shambles territory. Also those 50 ranked classes(not going to look it up take your word for it) were good enough for other coaches to get them to 5 straight bowls before your "Row the Boat" guy capsized that streak. Even with a lighter schedule.

PJ has a lot of fanboys here.
Man this is a business, he may be a bonehead but if he wins and put people in the seats then he will be celebrated in Minny. Another reason why I believe players shouldn’t have to sit if they transfer, why should they be penalized if a so called “ass_ole takes over the program.

Fleck has the type of personality where if he is successful he will be loved. If he is not successful there will be a revolt among their fanbase. No doubt he is very polarizing but winning is a great disinfectant.

100% correct. Winners are celebrated, losers are denigrated. But most folks root for straight shooter/regular guy like Jerry Kill or Kirk Ferentz over a guy who behaves like an asshat like Franklin, Harbaugh or Fleck. Harbaugh seems to have calmed down in the last year or two, and Franklin has seemed to have settled down after making a noisy splash.

I still wonder how things would have turned out if he didn't get bulldozed by that EMU player on the sidelines.

Kill is a douche for these comments.

Obviously the comments are partly about the way Fleck handled the change over. The inference is that he basically called the players still remaining uncontrolled and that Kill and his staff did not know how to run s program. How do you even consider saying that when the school didnt fire Kill and the only reason he was gone was health related. Also Kill tried to talk to Fleck about it and again was obviously disrespected again
FLECK HAD HIS CHANCE IF I WERE KILL I WOULD BE DONE WITH HIM ALSO!!!!!

Fleck will fall on his face sooner than later. Let's see how he does with "His Guys" filling out the roster. And see if the Alumni and fans feel all warm and fuzzy still in 2 years

You have to be a little weird to be a successful football coach. You can't tell me Belichick, Urban, Saban, and Harbaugh aren't. Heck even Schiano was quirky although he has not even come close to the success of this guys. Throw in guys like Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron and it is looney bin city.
