Joe Moglia's game will be on ESPNews this Thursday

Has he given significant bucks to CCU? This feels like naming the university after Henry Rutgers in the hopes that he would dump his fortune on us when he died.
Now Derleider, don't put old Henry down, after all the $150,000. he did donate was well worth his name. We at least had the good sense to use his last name. Imagine if we used his first "Henry University!" :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

All assistants are unproven so no guarantee anybody would be around in five years. Age issue is odd and ignores 8-5, 12-1, 12-1 and 8-1 record.

Don't know if he's donated his own money but has used his connections in the financial industry to get a $5 million donation to the Athletic Dept from TD Bank. In return TD has their name associated to everything from the turf football field to recycling bins.

It was the single largest donation CCU had ever received.

I can't believe there is a serious discussion about hiring a 67 year old FCS coach with 4 years of coaching experience to coach a Big Ten team. Good lord.

This isn't FCS. It takes more than good motivation to win at this level.

Not ignoring his record. Age is a valid concern unless someone is blinded by the record against Monmouth, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern (loss), and Kennesaw State.

I'll ask again. Can anyone find a P5 school that hired a HC who was over 65? Maybe because there's a reason?

There are no guarantees, but outside his first class or two, it would be a much tougher sell that he would be there for their time at school.

While I largely agree, he does have more coaching experience. He started his career coaching, before moving to Wall Street.

Wait. How old is Bill Snyder at KState? Snyder is really old and Dantonio ain't no spring chicken either, but they (more like their assistants) get it done in the living rooms of recruits and obviously on the field (although KState is down this year).

I don't think age hurts Moglia. Doesn't look his age and he's passionate about the game. He obviously doesn't need the money or the aggravation of coaching college kids, yet he's out there doing what he loves and winning (albeit at the FCS level).

If money is preventing RU from going after a big name hire, this guy makes a lot of sense, especially if low to mid major FBS coaches and/or high major FBS coordinators (with no HC exp.) are considered. He's a smart dude and set financially. Also read somewhere that he's got an affinity for RU. That could be pure BS, but I read it on the Internet...so it must be true.

its like if Jeff Tower was a coach

Nice to find there are others who can see issues beyond a coach's record at a lower level. Of all the people mentioned most on the boards, he's in the bottom 2 or 3 on my list.

Snyder (76) was 49 when he was hired to coach KSU.
Dantonio (59) was 51 when he took over MSU.

Another is Saban (64) who was 56 when he took over Alabama

Even if you're crazy enough to try to compare resumes, none were asked to turn around a different program at 66 or 67.

You need to think outside the box with a guy like Joe Moglia. He's not your standard guy who has come up the standard path through the coaching ranks.

I also doubt that you've ever met a more successful person in your life than Joe Moglia. I know that I haven't.

All we are saying is to give the guy an interview. He deserves that based on his record.

No he doesn't.

It still doesn't solve the age issue or resulting negative recruiting.

Have you actually seen what the guy looks like, and watched him in interviews? He has more energy than most 40 year olds. He looks like he's in his 50s.

These ultra CEOs are a different breed. They take care of themselves and are born to be dynamic.

You continually bring up age, but I think your standpoint would change if you saw more of him. Mine certainly did.

And none of that resolves the issue. I've seen CCU play. I've seen him interviewed. Yes, he's an impressive man. None of that makes him a P5 HC.

So many guys look at records and immediately say "Hire him!" If only records matter why not hire the HC from Charleston Southern? After all, they actually won the Big South, not CCU. Do you even realize how far down the food chain the Big South is? Do you realize how much they've struggled just to have a league? How many teams from even lower leagues have they added recently just to stay afloat?

On other topics, how do you feel his "No Rules" philosophy will fly here after all that's gone on? Can the current roster run his offense? Can he recruit at this level?

I truly believe if he hadn't been successful in business, none of you would care or even notice him. It's a superficial lovefest at best.
