Great guy, good coach. But in the wrong situation along with a nasty streak of injury bugs did not help.
Well deserved, but he is a nice guy, maybe Hobbs can keep him around the athletic dept in some regard.
Hobbs does not F around. Feel bad for Eddie, but feel hopeful this is going to get fixed properly.
My biggest worry is losing Sanders. I hope Hobbs offers Eddie some sort of administrative position or figures out a way to keep Sanders who may be the single best recruit at RU in the past 20 years.
Despite the lack of facilities, there is just too much talent in the metro area to not get 7 guys that can win at least half of B1G games. Feel really. bad for Eddie though.
Was there any doubt? Loyal son made 4 million for three years. I knew RU was in trouble in first year when they lost 92-31 in a tourney game! Put some $$$ into new coach
Yes but we played in the best Hoops conference there was for about 20 years and never got on track. The administration just wasn't behind it. Maybe that's changed.
RU can lose 25 games with or without Sanders. Have to blow up this culture
I had really wanted to see great results - but it did not happen ....
HOWEVER, have to appreciate his intentions and the time invested - the effort to be dignified, to be ethical, to be professional and the effort to move on step-by-step from where things were in March /April of 2013. A lot of coaches would not have touched that toxic mess - no matter what.... or they would have wanted guarantees and $$$ that was just not there to be given. There was a huge need for principled & professional stability & EJ was willing to try & by all accounts, he diligently avoided unethical short cuts.
Another example of how being a favorite son does not always translate to success - see also Chris Mullin (maybe things get better for him?)
A hope - in the very near future the team will be performing magnificently strongly competing in the B1G - and EJ can be back for a game - get introduced to warm cheers.

But don't feel bad for Eddie.. Rutgers still owes him $2 million.
Now we can only hope Rutgers is willing to spend enough dinero to bring in a top-quality coach.

Sorry but I disagree. Sanders is a special player. You do everything you can to keep him. The real question is would we lose 25 games with a good coach and some good players around him?
Curious to know what he would do with a healthy roster next year... Guess we'll never know. I hope Hobbs has a plan, because I don't know good a coach who would take this nightmare job for anything less than a fortune
Three years ago with continuous playing of the video of Mike Rice screaming & throwing basketballs this was a job NOBODY wanted - & $$$ was nowhere near making it desirable.
Maybe now with the passage of time - instead of being a stinking rancid disaster - it is just a wreck that needs to be rebuilt - and maybe an ambitious & talented & motivated coach can make their mark by turning it around.

I feel sorry for Eddie but he is not walking away empty handed. Program needed a change and Hobbs has a right to make his own hire. Whoever it is must insist on facilities upgrades and be able to recruit NJ and NYC.
I hear you. It was time to move on from EJ but it still hurts that it ended so badly for him. Good luck Coach.
No one wants to see Corey leave. But the program is more important to turn around when compared to any one player. This program has been a dumpster fire for 25 years with no AD addressing the real problems with this moribund program. We now have an AD who finally gets it. The program as a whole needs to succeed. Then the players will want to play for our school. Meantime let's hope Corey stays.
