In the talk of a successor for CVS, I'm curious as to why no one has mentioned Chris Daily in these recent(since Stringer's absence and Tim's struggles have led us all to think about succession plans) discussions. I know she is not the youthful energy some have mentioned but she has plenty of time to continue doing this if she so chooses. New Brunswick native, alum, former player comes home to resurrect the program she once helped to win a championship banner.

She has been given credit for a lot of the recruiting at UConn. Held her own when she took over for Geno, IIRC. Our new facilities and the potential to bring the excitement back to the RAC for the women's games has to be really enticing. Although it was the men last night, it has to make a person like her and Chelsea think, what if I could get even a portion of that energy for the women.

Maybe Chelsea, Khadijah, or both come and learn under her tutelage and take it over when she retires. I would think Chelsea may be eager to get a HC job in the more near future, but this scenario is just a thought.

Because she has been offered other jobs and turned them down. She also has said she will retire whenever Geno is done.

She has been mentioned on this board occasionally over the years.
The general consensuses was ( if I remember right) : she will not pursue another job and more than likely retire when Geno does.

One possible candidate that might be considered is Amaka Agugua-Hamilton > Missouri State's HC
She was a Michigan State assistant for around 6 years, so she knows the B1G, and doing a good job as Missouri State's HC.(47-9 for her 2 years there) and only 38.

We need a fresh start we can't hire someone from the CVS coaching tree
I have said that Chelsea may be just fine. She played in the B1G for several coaches with varying styles. She has now been coaching as an assistant at Georgia with a successful head coach.

There is nothing wrong with someone who has coached or played under Vivian. But they must have varied experience and I do not think anyone currently on staff should be promoted.

agree, varied experience is something that should be desired.

Aahhhh! When....did she say that ......was it in the last year or two? People say things while they are in their current job but may not necessarily know definitively what they want to do. If the RU job were posed to her and pitched the right way by the AD, who knows what she will say. It's a heck of an opportunity for her. Those new facilities and what the RAC can be in terms of electric atmosphere.... She would have the support of the fan base which is familiar with her. Unless there is another surefire young coach out there chomping at the bit to come here, I'd strongly consider trying to persuade her to come home. It's gotta be tempting.

For me, this alternative is right up there with the Kristi Tolliver or Becky Hammon type hire. I know Becky wants an NBA job, but in the meantime, the pay is higher than what she may be making right now. She did spend time in NY with the Liberty so she knows the area.

She has said it repetitively. She wanted to be RU coach when Vivian was hired. She was not really happy she was passed over.

After all the years at Geno's side, and entry into the WBB Hall of Fame as an Associate Head Coach, she has been consistent in saying that she will retire with Geno. She is 62. The hope of some folks in Connecticut is that she might consider staying 1 year to break in a new head coach, either as an interim or in some other fashion.

With that , we should rule out the chance Chris would consider leaving UConn and be RU's HC if CVS decides to leave or Hobbs decides enough is enough and makes a change

That's giving up too easily. I would think that she has not turned RU down recently because the job hasn't been open. If it were to come open in the very near future, I would have to hear her say no again before I rule her out as an option. And if she was mad about being passed over years ago, that AD is no longer here. People change their minds. Just let her tour the facilities.

I think she could be a perfect fit for the special mission of returning the program to elite status (that 's if CVS' staff doesn't pull a miracle and do so themselves). That wouldn't require that she coach into her seventies if she doesn't want to. And it would be a good length of time for grooming a young future replacement.

I get the feeling that most here just don't care for C. Daily as the next coach, even if she wanted to come here.

Wow - you really, really don't know how to read people. While there are folks who probably don't care for her, I think most on average like her as an alum, especially now that Rutgers isn't competing with UConn.

I would 100% support Rutgers considering her, although I personally would prefer someone younger. And I am a regular on the UConn message board (I have been for years and years, going back to its relative early days) and have repetitively seen Chris's future discussed. I would be floored if she hasn't been 100% honest about her career goals. And she is a Hall of Famer, and is making well over $300,000 a year, more than some head coaches.

I think I do know how to read people........ Pretty well, actually......... I never said anything about her as an alum, ......I said as the next HC. I'm just going on the responses here......"too old"......."she said no repetitively"....."with that we should rule her out". If it's to the point where no one from RU is willing to pursue a coach that they want, then how bad do you want that coach?

And how many times have we seen college coaches not be able to pass up a chance at their dream job (which often involves coming home). Vic Shaefer comes to mind immediately. How old is he?

It has nothing to do with her being dishonest. People have the right to change their mind. Situations change that can dictate a change in plans. No one from Connecticut could rightfully be mad at her if she came home to RU and wanted to fulfill a dream to further cement her H of F career with success as a HC. Eliminating the chance for any what ifs later.

I think if she were to read this, and the job were offered to her, she'd say to herself, "RU I'm coming home". After reading this, if you were her, wouldn't you? 😊

agree

I for one would love Chris to be the next RU HC and would want that to happen ASAP.
But feel that ship has sailed a long time ago and Cris has decided that leaving UConn isn't something she intends to do until she retires.
If Dailey wanted a HC position she'd have been one by now.

For years many of the TKR members on this forum have expressed a desire for Dailey to be the RU HC,but they , along with I, felt that the reality would be different to the wish , because her loyalties lie with UConn and not RU.
Being passed over for the HC position probably has made the RU job not as desirable to her as it once was and being the HC at Rutgers or any school isn't in her plans.
Staying where she is and retiring from UConn is her plan

Chris would be a great head coach. But she does not want it. She has passed upon many top 10 opportunities. She was always in the mix for job openings. She turned them all down. Has openly said she is not interested in being a head coach, even said so at her induction into the Hall of Fame. And has said numerous time she will be by Geno's side until he retires.

I have to agree with Madhat this ship has sailed.

Okay, if you would love for Daily to be our next coach, then I don't understand how you can be so sure she wouldn't be interested. So sure to the point that you think it's not even worth pursuing. What she's said no to in the past was not RU. Because she has turned down other jobs and stated plans at earlier times doesn't mean anything regarding a person's mind at the current moment.

It's just like that school crush that you might have had.....You never know until you ask. Those who take the approach that I'm hearing in this thread would walk away without even trying.

Maybe some of you are in her circle and know enough to speak so suredly. The way I see it, ....if the RU job was to open up at the end of the year, it would be the first opportunity since the 90s for Daily to consider coming home to her alma mater that has the infrastructure set up for immediate success under new AD leadership where many of its' sports programs are flourishing in the Big Ten. This AD never passed her over for the job so I don't think grudges come into play.

Don't care what she's said in the past. This is something that could change her mind, IMO. Therefore, if I'm AD, I put her name at the top of the candidate list.

Again, no one on here is saying she would not be a great candidate. What we are saying is that she has openly said she is not interested in being a head coach anywhere, not just Rutgers, at this point in her life. It would be a disservice for an AD not to have Dailey on a list of potential candidates. I and others are trying to let you know she is not a reasonable candidate.
