I see but if you are doing last minute transactions at a game that day I can see it being a big problem

I don't see a problem. You print out the pdf at home, and you can give it away or sell it just like a paper ticket.
And the electronic ticket has other advantages. If you leave your current paper ticket at home, you're stuck. With the electronic ticket, you just need a smartphone to email a pdf to yourself and display the barcode.
