(Just wanted to preface that this is post isn't meant to imply a leader in the search or anything of that nature, just some of the rumblings I've been hearing)
Had a few NJ contacts reach out to me to note that Al Golden has been very active on twitter in the last couple of days, adding a lot of the recent Rutgers commits, targets, recent offers and high school coaches in the area that he wasn't recently connected with.
In terms of some rumblings around the program (not including the higher ups that John has mentioned) that there is more of a want for Cristobal vs Golden.
People in the football program are also more familiar with Fleck from his time in the program the 2012 class he was the lead on most of the WR recruits minus Carroo and he was the lead recruiter for Andre Patton before leaving for the Bucs. I don't get the sense that the search team of Hobbs, Brown etc is really gaging who the team wants but another thing that could work in Fleck's favor is that a number of the younger guys were recruited by Western Michigan. The WMU WR coach Matt Simon was on Flood's staff as a GA/WR coach before joining Fleck. WMU Director of Football Ops Jessica Larmony is a Rutgers alum worked in the Rutgers football program for years before joining Fleck. That's along with many other staff members who were at Rutgers previously. Not saying he would bring the whole staff but it is to be noted. He maintained the relationships out east and recruited the traditional state of Rutgers along with what is considered the Big Ten footprint.
Another thing to note with Fleck is that although there was a monster deal supposedly put together to stay at Western Michigan that would supposedly take him off the market but nothing has been set in stone.
