Some Quick Thoughts

Agree with you on the probability. On the other side Moczulski does have the longest FG in the program's history and as evidenced by his practice kick he certainly had the distance in those conditions, just not the accuracy due to the wind. Also not a fan of icing the kicker at the last second as that gives him a practice kick. Prefer a pre setup time out if that comes into play.
Practice kick? Are you referring to the time out kick? That kick ballooned and didn’t make it to the end zone. It came up 15-20 yards short and 15 yards wide left.

I worry about losing the young WR’s. There will be interest and NIL bags being delivered.
We need to win the bowl game.. but preferably beat Sparty and then win the bowl game.. have to end the season on a high note to help limit NIL losses of the talent.. any help there we can get would be welcome.

The TV guy said the kick had enough leg. It was hard to tell on TV if it was short. They mentioned the kicker was an NIL xfer and had hit a 59-yarder, but they also mentioned the wind.

timeout was a huge error because of conditions and it allowed Illinois to see the miss and switch things up... it was a bad error. I am not among those that say it means Schiano should be kicked to teh curb.. but the mistake was obvious and if he cannot admit to it.. I think that's a problem.

Anyone, not named Greg, that was in the stadium knew the game was over when they trotted their fg team out. This was some of the worst wind conditions I have ever experienced at Rutgers Stadium. It was old school Giants stadium swirling wind. It was a steady 20mph wind with gusts coming from all directions.

The only people defending the call were not in attendance. The kick landed shy of the end zone and was considerably offline . I am not calling for Greg’s firing but this loss is entirely on him and his boneheaded game day decisions.

Football is a game of moments. Bo and Levy had a few very bad moments today of being out of position.

We allowed the Illinois QB to escape pockets 5 times today when we had him contained.

The time out is whatever, I can see arguments for and against calling it. The last pass play defense was very, very bad. All levy has to do is keep contain and the WR is bottled up. Bo also should have been with him as we were in a match up zone. We lit the QB up and he made a nice throw, the run after the catch is unacceptable.

When we scored with a minute left I was very, very worried. I actually wanted to see us run the ball to burn more clock.

The fumble by AK was really influential in the game, all of our missed sacks were really influential in the game, our continued poor zone pass defense is a major issue.

Learn and grow is all we can do. No one is getting fired for this.

The positive is that I think our offense is showing what it can really do for the rest of the season and next year. I like Higgins. Miller still has too many drops.
To me, aside from the DBs, Miller’s drops are the biggest disappointment. Seems the guy drops every pass that is not thrown perfectly.

The kick was 20 yards short and way left. No idea what those guys were looking at.

If he did have the distance Beliema probably would’ve let him try again.

Fellas looked lost - like every guy thinks another guy is responsible for making the play

24 has to make that play there. At the least go low left leg on the WR so he’s forced back into the middle where we had 4 guys. That was like HS JV D against a 5* Sr varsity guy.

Not sure how it looked on TV, but I sit pretty much in line with the goal line on that end of the field. The kick went up, then just died.... it was not moving in a parabolic arc at all. It went up as you'd expect, but once it got to height it just slowed down and started to steeply drop. I'm pretty sure it landed short of the goal line.

It did pretty much exactly what I expected it to do, and it was hilarious - we were celebrating and laughing at how dumb a coach would have to be to try that kick in that headwind.

Little did we know our coach was determined to top that decision.

From a TV perspective, they showed 2 angles of the kick - live and a replay. The live view was from a camera behind the end zone and while the kick was way off to the left, this angle appears to show the football going past the goal line. The replay shows an angle from behind the kicker. Couple that with the Analyst, Michael Robinson, stating the kick had "plenty of leg and definitely long enough". That's what we saw and heard on TV.

Will note neither the live view on replay of the kick on TV shows where the ball actually landed.

You're absolutely right. On tv, the kick seemed more than long enough. I talked to 2 friends who were in the upper deck right after and they both said it was well short.

24 was thrown into the fire before he was ready and he screwed up. He knows he screwed up. The coaches know he screwed up, and they will review it during film session, take corrections, and move on.

That kick wouldn’t have been good from a distance perspective from 20 yards closer. Don’t want to even discuss that it was also 15 yards offline.

Not sure who is right

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Doesn’t matter we lost due to terrible coaching. Even more pissed that Harisymiak sent a blitz with a true freshman in critical coverage. Have not been impressed with Harisymiak being able to make in game adjustments with personnel he has. At least KC has made adjustments on offense.

The outcome is the same. Let’s say he doesn’t send the blitz. #13 might get tackled, but clock stops, to move chains, to allow field unit on. They kick the field goal and win the game. By sending the blitz, qb has to make a good throw under pressure, which he did, unfortunately.

Clock stops to mark the ball. They would need to clock the ball. They don’t allow for mass substitution and as you say bring field unit on.

This game wasn't lost on the last play. This game was lost on the blown coverage TD to the end zone. This game was lost when the QB sneaked into the end zone untouched. This game was lost when we gave them 8 extra downs on one drive due to stupid penalties. Our defense lost this game way before the last play and the game was close due to the outstanding play of our QB.

This. The drops, the penalties, the missed assignments, the fumble gave Illinois a chance to hang around.

Will say this though, at least one Illini DB was very handsy and got the benefit of several missed DPIs.

Will be the reason he will not be a pro.

Maybe he's injured - jammed fingers etc are part of being a WR.
He can obviously catch - only RU WR to make top 100 in years.
If he's suddenly dropping more then there must be a reason.
AK can spit short fireballs that you can probably hear coming
I see some people ready to burn him in effigy as usually happens to someone every year

Felt like there were a lot of drops -- but it also felt like the offense did what it needed to do to win the game. Maybe Monanghai should have run OOB instead of scoring; that would have helped as well.

The frustrating part of the timeout call was that the weather already would have iced the kicker. the probability of him making it had to be less than 10%. For a 25 yard kikc, sure let the kicker think about it and hopefully he gets in his own head. I thought that Bielema gave us the game when he sent the kicking team out for that attempt. I was so angry at that point I wasn't paying much attention to the line up and the inability of the secondary to keep Illinois out of the end zone.

it felt again like the end of the first half of the UCLA game re-playing itself. As if we are living in infinite timeout management hell in a Simpsons Halloween episode.
