We can pay 500k a player for a starting 5. The European game is more of a team game, and we need guys that can pass and don’t hog the ball. I think chasing the same guys here with half the budget of other teams is a losing battle so might as well see what we can get overseas.

Let everyone else bid up the portal. We can look at the rest of the world.

That works too! All international young pro team.

Portaling with everyone else with our budget does not seem like a recipe for success.

If we’re able to sign international players to multi year contracts (500k/yr), it is pretty damn good compared to some of these euro/intl leagues. A win for RU and a win for whoever we get from overseas - Europe, Africa, Latin America, China. Wherever.

They get better coaching and development in Europe than they would in an American college. And any legitimate difference makers have already been identified by the NBA. It would be more likely that RU ends up with the next Alvydas Tenys than the next Nikola Jokic.

Pike isn’t going to succeed by trying to win through offense. He couldn’t even break the top 50 offense with 2 NBA studs. Forget that.

We need to dedicate the bulk of the money we do have towards securing 2-3 sure power conference starters who are established 2 way players. One forward, one guard, and the center might have to be an established mid major kid. From there - the rest of our money (say $1M- $1.5M total) should go towards player retention (modest - nobody is worth more than $150k max right now - most a lot less like Dortch), whatever we committed to on the frosh, and hungry defensive minded kids who are focused on proving themselves at the major conference level with the hope of earning a pile the following year.

I have found quite often when people accuse me on this board of bad takes they end up being right. Plenty of examples i can site.
