Not happening.Pay Hobbs what is needed to keep him.If more money is needed lower CVS's new contract
Thats like the 750k yankee stadium wrestling matchNot happening.
CVS needs to ride off into the sunset but that's not happening either. Not happening.

If you asked 10 basketball writers about the two programs even under the current state of Georgetown which one would you take Rutgers over Georgetown in terms of future success?
Please stop with the conference affiliation stuff, by that definition Rutgers has bigger upside than Villanova.
And you are basing this largely on Georgetown's struggles the last couple of years. But Indiana struggled this past year. Heck IU had 3 TERRIBLE years in a row under Crean when he first took over the job. Does that mean IU is "middling" Big 10 job or a bottom of the conference Big 10 job (at least at that point) because that is where they happened to finish during some years?? It is arguably the best basketball job in the conference even when it goes 8-10.
The question was why would Karl Hobbs leave Rutgers for Georgetown? Fair question, but Georgetown by all accounts was ready to spend in excess of $4 mil per year on their head coach, something I can assure you RU would not be able to do for Pikiel or anyone. That tells me Georgetown also has the funds to put together a prime staff.
Louis Orr would be a great hire for Ewing. Hobbs would be as well, but I would be surprised if Hobbs would make a lateral move to a lesser conference at this point. If he stays at RU another year and things go well, he will have the opportunity to be a head coach again.
Penn State and Nebraska have been in the Big Ten a lot longer than Rutgers and have already received the huge revenue that goes along with being in this conference. So why do their basketball program still suck? And why is Rutgers guaranteed to be better? And on what planet would the Villanova basketball program yearn to be more like RU? Last I checked, their program is making money hand-over-fist and Jay Wright is compensated handsomely.Reality check is despite offering 3.8M, no one with a pulse wanted the GTown job.....this is based on someone with clear knowledge of the offers.

went back to Amaker, who then considered again....again came back to "no thanks".
GTown made the hire of Ewing, because no one of note wanted the job.....no one of note wants to deal with Big John Thompson.....no one of note, is willing to stick out there career necks as an assistant for Patrick Ewing, who belongs in the NBA as a head coach, not as Head Coach at Georgetown....
This kinda has a feel of people going gaga over Chris Mullin, who still hasn't figured out what he wants to do at St. Johns.....it's great for TV viewers to rehash and recap the early to late 80's of Thompson wearing the Louie sweater and yesteryear....the reality is both schools have great tradition, but neither has any true future that is locked in as a contender against the true Power 5 schools right now....basketball schools can sell "they are a basketball school" all they want, but when the big schools eventually come calling, the Archie Millers of the world leave for the Power 5 conferences...
I am not rooting against Patrick Ewing or Chris Mullin or have a care in the world about either program....in the Big East, in their own basketball centric world, they believe their own press clippings about how much they can pay for coaches, because if they don't pay extreme top dollar, they will get swallowed up or reduced to non-factors.
Does anyone truly feel that if given a chance, Villanova or any Big East school would trade the next 10-20 years of revenue and future earnings with RU....?? Even if RU finished in the bottom half of the conference the next 3 years straight, at some point, the revenue kicks in and the playing field tilts RU's way over these historically great programs.....These programs are built solely on the backs of tremendous coaches....as soon as those coaching greats leave the program, a "normalcy" returns.

RU has had a coaching problem, in picking the wrong coach or not enough of a staff....Karl Hobbs can take the GTown assistant position tomorrow, but common sense would tell a normal college basketball fan that the primary concern or hesitation in going with Ewing, was not basketball related/not tradition related or financially related.......its surrounding the ability to find the right assistant coaches, who know college basketball, can recruit and understand the game AND are willing to work for Ewing and deal with John Thompson Sr........Kids these days frankly don't know Patrick Ewing.....their AAU coach clearly does and can explain that, but that's about it....and the alumni donors at GTown that I know, are practically horrified at the hire, because there is ZERO upside....Ewing does great (highly unlikely), he gets no credit and leaves for the NBA.....Ewing does average and sets the program back a decade.....
My friend played for Louis Orr at SH. He absolutely loved playing for him. Quality guy.
I'm counting on him leaving.Time will tell. I'm sure we will know soon.
Other than having some of the best high school talent in the country within a two hour driving radius from campus and RU basketball being in the BIG conference with a capable athletics administration that has a quality coaching staff in place should be important factors in turning around the program. No guarantees for RU basketball but it definitely has yet to fulfill its potential.Penn State and Nebraska have been in the Big Ten a lot longer than Rutgers and have already received the huge revenue that goes along with being in this conference. So why do their basketball program still suck? And why is Rutgers guaranteed to be better? And on what planet would the Villanova basketball program yearn to be more like RU? I'll hang up and listen.
If Hobbs leaves, I would expect the two other assistant coaches to get a upgrade in pay and the third assistant coach filled internally and or with a outsider at a lower pay range.Pikiell needs to have some stability in the coaching staff and at least one of the coaches must be a closer in recruiting.Time to promote Brandon to #1 assistant and give a little more $.
Wonder who Pike hires?
A assistant coach visiting another school on Easter Sunday is a rather ominous sign that Hobbs likes Washington,DC.

His wife still lives in the DC suburb of Bowie, Maryland. So my guess is that Hobbs was spending time with the wife and kids then went over to GUA assistant coach visiting another school on Easter Sunday is a rather ominous sign that Hobbs likes Washington,DC.
Yikes! This must be a RU trend since the departed RU head coach's wife stayed in the DC area and stared on the Housewives of the Potomac. His wife still lives in the DC suburb of Bowie, Maryland. So my guess is that Hobbs was spending time with the wife and kids then went over to GU
So you're saying Hobbs is going to be fired like the departed RU HC was ,because both their wives live in the DC area :pYikes! This must be a RU trend since the departed RU head coach's wife stayed in the DC area and stared on the Housewives of the Potomac.

I'll take it.FWIW-I heard Hobbs is staying at RU. Also heard Shammond Williams, assistant at Western Kentucky, former assistant at Tulane and former player at North Carolina is being courted by Ewing.
Source is not perfect, but thought I would share that.
