Kevin Stallings fired at Pitt.

@xkiesterx Elite programs in P5.

Kentucky
Florida
Texas
Kansas
Oklahoma?
Duke
UNC
Louisville
Syracuse
UCLA
Arizona
Oregon- getting there
Michigan st - will hire an Izzo protege if he leaves.
OSU
Michigan
INDIANA ?
Villanova

No way he gets any of those jobs. ..for one, Most of the coaches are very safe.

Who's left of these High Level Programs that would want Danny Hurley ? It's not like he is Brad Underwood who took Witch St. to elite 8 and final 4 before getting the Illinois Job.

EDIT.... Underwood was not at Witch St.

We can revisit this when Hurley takes Rhode Island deep into the tourney...like elite 8 or better.

Just off the top of my head I can name at least 4 coaches that would get an elite job on this list before Hurley....Chris Mack, Will Wade, Bryce Drew Mick Cronin and there are many more. Heck, WHEN Steve Pikiell takes Rutgers from worse in CBB to the NCAA's he will be more in demand than Hurley.

Choppin,

Brad Underwood never coached Wichita St. Are you thinking of Gregg Marshall? Underwood did well at Stephen F. Austin in his few years there, but never came close to the Final 4.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Thx... I got them mixed up... Underwood was the guy that only did 1 year at Okie St.

So, we can add Gregg Marshall to the list of coaches that could get a top job on that list before Hurley. But Marshall is a little on the older side.

What better options do you think Hurley has other than a P5 program in a great BB Conference with a solid history ?
Competing against the power house schools like Duke and North Carolina to name just two in the ACC just shows how difficult it is for head coaches to succeed and more likely get fired.

I honestly can't imagine the Pitt AD desperate to turn things around trusting things to someone with no experience. It's one thing when the former players were there that knight knew so that he would've been able to gel that lockerroom and stabilize it. It's another now that many of them have left. The AD might get canned if this hire doesn't work out

Marshall has an open checkbook and unlimited resources at Wichita State. He's not going anywhere. As long as the Koch Brothers and he get along, he's got an awesome gig.

Apologies if I missed his name here ... Has Pitt alum Kevin Willard’s name been mentioned as a possible Stallings successor?

FWIW, Jerry Carino agrees with me.

Also, I think Pitt is about as bad a job in the P5 as you could take at this point. The factors that led to their rise have changed considerably and they are totally bereft of talent at this point.

Also, there are a quite a few high level jobs in conferences not in the P5 in college basketball that are jobs more desirable than Pitt.

Hurley is up for a big job when it comes up, like I said I don't know how the coaching carousel will go, of course. I think you and bac are both underestimating how much people will want him.

Of those you listed I think the most likely options for this year are Louisville and conceivably Arizona is Miller is run out of town.

Jerry Carino said , Danny Hurley can practically name his Job !

That's the funniest line ever. I just posted a long list of jobs that he has NO Chance of getting right now if there was a Job Opening.

So, I'll back to my original question ? Name some schools that are High Level Programs that Hurley is holding out for that are better than Pitt ? Are these Big East programs ? Marquette, Seton Hall, Butler, DePaul ? Maybe, you think Mullins and Ewing are going to fail and St' Johns or Georgetown will come calling.

AND...by the way, you can add Ed Cooley of Providence to the list of coaches that would get an elite job before Hurley,

It's silly to speculate but this year there's a reasonable chance the Arizona and Louisville jobs are open. If they are I'd expect he could be a candidate for Louisville.

Here's the best response to Carino....

I don't dislike Hurley, but, if he wants to make a big jump, he needs to do something similar to what Shaka Smart did at VCU to become a national name coach....make a run in the NCAA tourney...Smart took VCU to the Final 4.

Winning that 2nd straight A10 championship today over powerhouse Davidson should help his chances of getting that Louisville job. . Or the job at Arizona at the very least.
