In my opinion the key position to a successful season whether you define it as 7+, 8+, or 9+ wins is the QB position. We have question marks on the oline and lb positions but getting consistent play from Laviano or Rettig will be the key to having a balanced offense. We have pass weapons (Carroo, Grant, Patton) and possible breakout candidates (Aguodosi) but RU needs a qb that can hit targets and minimize Ints. With the stable of backs RU has a consistent pass game will generate a healthy scoring offense; and with an experienced dline and an improved secondary RU will surprise some teams on the road and home this season. The qb position is definitely the position of greatest concern for RU. Both qb options are young, inexperienced and no starts represented. Optimistic on how the position develops but hoping we don't get a huge dropoff in quality of play from last year's Good Nova who was mostly good. I have no doubt that RU can win 8+ games this season with quality qb play. Let's see how things play out.

In my opinion, even more important than QB is the OL. We are going to be a run first team, if the OL can come through. I see the QB as being only a game management type this year given the lack of experience at that position. We can't run, despite our depth at RB, if nobody blocks for them. The QB can't have a controlled passing game if the OL can't protect him. It's really on the OL, and the DL, that will determine our fortunes this year. The big fatties will make us or break us this year, and really every year.

The QB position is the most important on the field, so yes I agree. I think the OL will be fine over time, it's not like RU is relying on very young players to play. Most of those in the mix have been in the program for at least a few years. However, expecting 8+ wins is really pushing it, the schedule is more difficult this year, the winnable conference games are on the road ...which makes things more difficult. I don't think they have any chance at all to knock off OSU and MSU..both top 5 teams imo.

I think the oline will be fine with Lumpkin, Muller and the linemen stepping in to start. All have been in the program for at least 2 plus years. RU will be able to run but it will have to pass in order to avoid defenses playing 8 men in the box. Laviano or Rettig will have to demonstrate the ability to hit targets consistently or throw away. If we get poor qb play RU could finish below .500. Avg game manager play 6-7 wins. High completion % low Ints RU can pull out 8+ wins. RU has talent in other phases of the game.

OL no question is the key. They will be big, I just hope they are talented. A lot to ask 3 new starters coming in and gelling. I hope they come together fast.

I hope James is back to full strength and has his speed and agility back. Still pissed at the Navy player who dove at his knees with his helmet. Sorry, as much as I love the Midshipmen, that was not a clean play.

I think we'll be successful if we can focus on three things and three things only - our family, our religion, and the Green Bay Packers.

Injuries, or lack of injuries-that's the key. RU has some good talent but has to keep the best on the field. An injury free season for James would be a godsend. Same with keeping the OL starters healthy.

Oregon has already lost one of their best RBs for the season (Tyner) and the injury bug destroyed any chance they had of beating OSU in the NC game. The "I" factor is huge.

My keys to a successful season, in no particular order:

1. Limit injuries at key positions.
2. OL gelling that can allow us to be a run first team.
3. QB that can be a game manager, at least for this year as he develops (whoever it is).
4. Improved play by LBs in stopping the run.
5. Emergence of Agudosi -- I think this is potentially huge if he can be threat opposite Carroo.
