First off, I am and we all are very happy we came back and won the game...... another beyond scary 1st quarter. Hats off to the team for galvanizing, again.

This said we again won a game despite liability and lack of execution at the quarterback position. Lack of turnovers, yay..... and the one long TD pass was a good throw...... but if we are going to run this offense we need to play a QB that adds something positive. In the most rosy perspective possible Laviano is a net Zero in this offense scheme. If you are going to leave him as the starter go back to the pro set. CL cannot throw while his feet are moving at all, and he is no threat towards the defense to keep the ball which defeats the purpose IMO of running this offense. Assuming limited turnovers, if you kept CLs stat line from passing but just had Oden, Gio, or Allen back there running a true power spread...... we dont go 3 and out three times in a row to start the game and we probably score 50+

Pick the one of those three other QBs in the mix that has the least turnover problems and give him a real shot to lead the offense next game. CL is a lame duck.

I don't care who starts the games for Rutgers at QB, but we need better production from the position in general. Laviano has 457 passing yards on 89 attempts. I haven't looked at the leaderboards, but I'm pretty sure his 5.1 yards per attempt are close to the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision. It doesn't mean we have a better option on the roster, but we need to have better performances going forward if we want to have a successful team.

His ceiling is unfortunately to low for the competition we are about to face. Since we really never get to see the other guys get a chance to develop it will be another unproductive year for that position.

That he can't execute the easiest passes designed for him is damning. At least complete the short passes. Give your receivers a chance to do something. A lot of his passes were either low or behind, limiting YAC

Agree that we need better play from QB.

The positives I saw was that he learned to throw the ball away. Did have that one nice long ball as well.

Fine, but can Allen permanently sit on the bench next to Rettig? He can't run and he can't pass.

Sadly the two QB's who should have seen the field today didn't. Who cares if they are questionable at passing, the guys who played today are questionable at best.

Bet he is money on those passes in practice.

HEY,,we won. Is he "the answer"....nope
but as coaches say....."he gives us the best chance to win_
at least now
-he is a RU kid
-he gives his ALL
-I will not DISS an RU player
A lot of fans don't agree with you or the coaches. I think he is the best practice player but doesn't give us the best chance to win.

I am hoping that Chris Ash was holding out Oden/Gio not to tip his hand against Iowa next week.
But, i fear I am mistaken.
Chris L. Is probably a great person and leader. Unfortunately, he is not a top notch QB. If he is the best choice RU has, we need to recruit a LOT better then next 4 years.

Get off Rettig playing He is not good.

Laviano can not run our system and it is killing is. If he set his feet and completed the outs and deep come back routes we would be in a lot better position but he is not doing that.

Whoever Ash starts I'll support, but would like to see Gio or Oden be given more time in the game and if Allen is in the mix, have him start the game then see if he can play or be pulled.
Even Hayden, though supposedly a bad fit for the RU O needs a chance since CL is not showing he can do the type of job needed on a constant bases..

CL needs a sports psychology doc to help him deal with in-game pressure & slow the game down for. Apparently, he performs great in practice, so he needs to take the next step & do it in the game. No one expects him to run like a deer but at least execute.

Ash needs to change starting QB. Laviano just isn't up to the competition. It will be a worthwhile learning experience for whoever Ash chooses.

Supposedly what is keeping Gio and Oden back is their grasp of, and ability to execute, in the passing game.

But, clearly, CL isn't getting it done in the passing game either. And this doesn't seem like an especially complicated passing offense. 90% of the passes are just dump-offs and short swing passes to backs and receivers 3 yards up field.

CL can not run and he can not throw on the run. So, like everyone else, I am dumbfounded as to how a permanent change at QB wasn't made today after those 1st 3 series.

CL's TD to Dre last week was the wrong read per the coaches but a good throw made it a TD. CL's correct reads today but terrible throws = 3&out. Coaches should learn from that.

I thought he made good decisions with the ball overall (obviously only the players and staff know how often he made the right read) and that long ball was a great pass. But the accuracy on the short throws was ugly.

Allen had his shot and blew it. Two looks for TD and blew both.

A "shot" consists of 2 passing attempts from a kid who hasn't played QB in 2 years? But that logic, Laviano blew his "shot" freshman year, and just about every game since!

Unfortunately, the offense is really based on the short throws...
