Laviano ranked #4 qb in Big Ten

I watched OSU play Northern Illinois this year. In that game, both OSU QBs had performances that made Laviano look like Joe Montana. The Laviano haters here would've wanted to fire Meyer for his horrible recruiting skills at the QB position after that game.

Yea fire a coach after a national championship. Dribble... both those guys are going to the NFL.

You don't know what you're talking about. Clearly you didn't watch OSU v. NIS. Laviano has yet to play as bad as both OSU QBs played in that game.

Seriously, are you related to Laviano? There is not a coach in college football who would take Laviano over either of the Ohio St. qb's

Posters have told you why he is in there time after time. You just don't pay any attention. You are too busy lamenting the fact that Rettig isn't playing.

As far as "cherry-picking" stats, this is a pretty good one. It impressed me.

I like Rettig just as good as Laviano, but fortunately the coaches do not make their decisions based on what I say. I say that not because I am a Laviano fan, but because any coach is going to have more experience and a larger data base to judge this type of thing than 98.6% of the posters on this board.

AG67 -- please explain to me what you see in Laviano's game that 80-90% of the fanbase does not see. The coaching staff apparently had so much confidence in him that they took the ball out of his hands in the second half.

I bow before your superior judgement and unwavering support of coach Flood over the years. Please enlighten me what I'm missing during the game days. While I see passes that bounce, are overthrown, and hang in the air longer than needed, are you seeing Dan Marino? Are you blown away by the 75% completion rate?

Or do you base everything on the concept that Laviano must be the better QB in practice, so he's the guy that should lead the team?

I've seen guys in sports that were tremendous in practice that couldn't handle game situations and guys who excelled during the game that weren't great during practice. I'd much rather have the guy that performs during the game.

67.It is clear that CL is highly ineffective. He can't throw long, misses wide open receivers and cannot throw accurately past seven yards. This horse that you so aggressively support will not ever get us the opportunity to cross the finish line.If ever there was a time to shine it was today. On many fronts I consider his performance an epic fail.

This thread is hilarious. Let's just say I am very happy to be stuck with our two poor qb's. You are more than welcome to keep any of the qb's on the roster. I have no problem with anyone being a fan of their team but some of you need to get real.
Not sure anybody, least of all me, is saying that our QBs are better than the OSU QBs. I certainly don't think that and it's not what I was saying.

What I was saying was that in the OSU NIH game, both the OSU QBs had worse games that Laviano had so far this season. I'm only speaking to that specific game. They were awful. Meyer even said it in his post-game, although he used more PC language about it. The way our fans here at RU eat our own, we would've eviscerated both QBs and Meyer during and after the game.

Today, however, was probably Lavanio's worst game of the season (although the score didn't reflect that which was a function of how lousy Kansas was on defense). I thought he was extremely lucky to escape w/out more interceptions.

I see the reading comprehension level on this board hasn't improved. I didn't say I think we should fire anybody. Nor did I say the OSU QBs are worse than Laviano in general.

What I said was that some of our idiot fans would've wanted to fire him, championship winning coach or not. Because we, here on the RU FB board, use emotion far more than logic.

Try learning how to read. I never said anything about taking Laviano over either at OSU.

His stats remind me of when the Knicks got Kurt Thomas. People would say "in college he led the nation in scoring". The response was always " what nation?". Same here

mildone is officially brain dead.
Officially brain dead? Really? That's the best insult you can muster? Totally lame.

Try again, but see if this time you can actually employ a little wit or creativity. I don't mind being insulted in the slightest, obviously, but your insult attempt wasn't worth the bandwidth it took to deliver it.

You compared laviano to joe montatna lol... change your analogies then and you can be less defensive...

It's not being defensive to accurately point out that I didn't say what other are claiming I said. It's being factual.

If you actually think what I wrote means that I think that Laviano is as good as Joe Montana, then you have reading comprehension issues serious enough that it's probably pointless for me to correct you in writing.

But I'll give it a try and we'll see how you do. This is what I wrote:

I watched OSU play Northern Illinois this year. In that game, both OSU QBs had performances that made Laviano look like Joe Montana. The Laviano haters here would've wanted to fire Meyer for his horrible recruiting skills at the QB position after that game.

I'll make it easy on you and use multiple choice. Did the above paragraph:

(a) state that Laviano is actually as good as Joe Montana?
(b) use a bit of comic hyperbole to illustrate how poor the two OSU QBs played in the NIH game?

Take your time. I made it easy by giving you a 50% chance to get it right.

Did not read Ohio state qbs are still better than laviano

I do not claim to have superior judgement about Laviano's performance. I think the coaches are likely to have a far better grasp on the situation due to their years of experience and their far-more detailed evaluation of his performances. I doubt if any posters here really have any realistic idea of all the details involved - making the correct calls at the line, analyzing the offense, etc. I do not think coaches are stupid. Rather I think many posters are likely to simplisitc and superficial in their evaluations.

IMO it is pretty obvious that most of the Laviano critics are people who have wanted Rettig from the beginning and so are looking at Laviano's performance with a biased eye. In this one case I don't suffer from this issue since I was hoping for Rettig also.

I see things I like about Laviano during the games, and I see problems. I am not trying to spin every negative to make it look positive, and i am not trying to spin every positive to make it look negative. I am not knowledgeable enough to begin with. I am just hoping both of our quarterbacks become highly productive, and I trust the people closest to the situation to make the most informed decision.

I don't know all the things they are looking at during the game, so I can't be sure how he performed in their eyes. Obviously he is improving rapidly enough in their eyes that they are going to stick with him for now. I admit I liked the way he performed yesterday, but I readily admit to not being an expert.

You are right that I support our coaching staff and players 100%.
