I have waited until now to post anything simply because I wanted to let that very depressing and disappointing game settle in. I have read many posts and as expected they have run the gammit from we have no talent to we will never be able to recruit with these types of schools, to Ash is in over his head (as is the rest of his staff), Laviano sucks etc etc. Well, I think we should take it for what it is. A poorly played game. Maybe we were not prepared, or they were that much better, or it's a new system and we need to get used to it, or we need a different QB. It is probably all of those things and more. However, USC, the number 25 team in the country played number 1 Alabama and was trampled by a score of 52 - 6. It happens. Virginia lost to Richmond. Does this mean that USC and Virginia are bad teams? Let's see if this team can get off the mat, get some confidence against what will be a very overmatched Howard team and the move on. Flood's teams couldn't make progress against the elite competition. Well, we will soon find out if this team and this staff can be different. 4of the first 6 games are against ranked teams so it will not be long before we know. I for one will be rooting come hell or high water.

USC isn't a bad team. Virginia and Rutgers are. Not because of this week's results, but because of the trend from last season and recruiting over the past few years. It is what it is. Hopefully you guys give Ash a chance to dig the program out of this hole; it won't be done in one or two or maybe even three years.

Hi Dpgru--hope you had a nice time at your grandson's birthday party. I never made it to Val's.

Grandkids are great. I heard that it never happened at Vals, too bad. There were some transformer problems in the area Saturday morning and we lost our tv for a few minutes several times. Maybe they had a similar problem. Anyway, the way that first qtr went it might have been a rather quite watch "party".

No, Vals had the game. They were on, then off, and then back on (I think).

Ok. Saturday was a disaster, at least the first quarter.
Things take time and this will too. Washington is a very good team. One of our biggest problems is so are Iowa, Michigan, Michigan St. and Ohio State. But this is what we wanted for years was to play this type of competition. It seems that Ash is taking a more national view of recruiting then other coaches. I really don't care if the kids we get are from NJ (which would be nice) or Idaho as long as they can play.
very interested in how the team will respond in two weeks. No one here can take results from the Howard game with any seriousness (except if we suck). It's how we compete with a team like New Mexico that I want to see. They are not a bad team but neither are they a Power 5 team. If we struggle against them it will be a very long year. IMHO I don't think we will. I have confidence in this staff and these kids that we can still make a productive year out of this.

Good post.

I think we're going to really struggle in this first half of the season. But despite having four of our first six games against top 25 ranked teams (#18, #21, #5, and #9, as of today), I think we will signs of improvement here and there even while losing badly in some of those games.

Getting a new coaching staff was not going to instantly put us on par, or close to par, with teams ranked in the top 25. It will take time. More than one season's time, for Ash & company to hit their stride.

Not what we'd all wish for. But that's our reality. I'm going to continue to be patient, look for and celebrate the positives. Seems like the happiest way to enjoy the season. And I think this team may surprise us at times in the second half of the season.

I love what UH's Tom Herman is doing there...i think he'll be moving on to maybe LSU next year...I hope HCCA can come even close to that here!!

Think this team will improve as the year goes on simply due to conditioning and Ash attention to detail.

Recognize the personnel is not there for the offense they want to run - so the there will be tweaks there.

Finally -we ran into a buzz-saw with Washington - as they look not only like a top ten team but possibly top five.
