Light blue lot Stinks

P.S I am going to the Rutgers vs Ohio State game this year and we decided not to get a parking pass this year since last year we had to wait in traffic anyway. What is the best way of getting out of there these days? Do they still have the buses in the park that will take you from the stadium back to College Avenue?

Also, is there any other method that is better than parking near College Avenue and then taking the bus to the stadium for the game and then taking the bus back to College Avenue after the game? I actually prefer this method as I am still young and enjoy being with all the crazies on the buses and getting chants going and all that, but I will be with some other people who I am not sure would be able to handle that environment as well as I can lol.

Look for free street parking near bucceluch park and walk across the bridge if you aren't tailgating.

I also park for free on the street in the Bronx for yankee games though. I guess I have issues.

Yellow lot is by far and away the best lot for getting in and out of games. Moved there 3yrs ago from Purple, which I liked for the atmosphere and paved lots.

I will never look back again and get any other lot

I didn't say I was upset that I got bumped there , that's the way it is . I understand . I didn't donate enough to get in a better lot But that Rutgers charges $30 for a crap lot and actually sells passes to this place is ridiculous.
Pay the $20 to park at hte CA parking deck, take the bus over and then hitch in on a tailgate for someone in the closer in lots.

I park for free on Easton Ave. $$$$ I'm not a tailgate guy obviously lol.

FYI - parking isn't free in New Brunswick on Saturday's anymore. At least on Easton. They announced that last year and I know of one person who got ticketed. Try a side street.

RU FOOTBALL VISITORS:

For RU Football home games Easton Ave will not allow parkers as per NBPD, additional parking will be available at the Gateway Garage at 7 Wall St.

Johnson Park, and the private yards on Riverview Ave (side road by Greek Church). 5 minute walk, and good tailgating in Johnson Park, and/or easy carry over to the Stadium. For those needing a place to tailgate at the stadium and don't have a tailgate to crash, Athletes Glen is very good...it has picnic tables, and lots of shade tree cover.

The whole system remains a classic Rutgers Cluster frack...the need to donate XX to get parking will be re-evaluated by my group next year...and if that is the case the need to buy Y number of season tix goes into the math as well.

Maybe time to just bail on the parking pass and try ad hoc game day stuff and /or buy a spot market pass if needed for a larger group thing.

(Glad the fan advisory board in providing value added)

You guys just want something for nothing. The complainers should just drop parking altogether. I'm sure Johnson Park will increase pricing if demand triples, and the school will still sell out all of the priority lots, just like it does now. If the school stops selling out the lots, they will have to revaluate their system. If they continue selling them out, there is no reason to make them any cheaper.

I think that they need to have minimums that guarantee you a spot in a specific lot based on priority points ahead of time. After that allow dynamic pricing to upgrade from your minimum guaranteed lot to a better one.

How would that work - if too many people pay the minimmum for a lot, but not enough for the next one up.

Lots of places to park for Free if you don't mind walking--Donaldson Park in Highland Park, far end of Johnson Park past the zoo and racetrack,SOME streets in New Brunswick and of course my spot that I have been parking in for years and won't tell any of you about LOL

Yeah I got bumped down to light blue this year, and yikes, that wasn't good. Glad I'm still young because I have to admit, it wasn't a good walk.

Anyone else have a bee problem? We where closer to the construction site and had several buzzing around all day. They loved our bacon and beer.

Those bastards!!!
Of all the cheap lousy ways to make a buck.

Side streets are usually resident permit only too.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll be RACing it Saturday.

Edit: wait to clarify, this is from before last year? Because I did the parking across from Beucceluch for Howard, Michigan, and Wisconsin last year with no issues. Hmm...maybe I was just lucky.

So when double the amount of people put down the minimum for a lot compared the amount of spaces then what?

It's very easy for those who itemize to say:"Donate more".
I say that we should have PSL's to make it equal for everybody.
There's a reason we don't do PSL. It's called taxes. PSL is a taxable form of revenue. Donations for equal (or greater value) is not treated that way and instead is part of the 501(c)(3) Rutgers foundation and therefore tax exempt. Additionally, your PSL purchase is not tax deductible (IRS still working out the rules for those who use the seats for client entertainment, but for the average Joe there is no savings), where a donation is 80% deductible.

For the msu game I plan on bringing my bike.I'll drive to somewhere around the post office on Hoes and bike it from there. Lock it up around Hill Center and walk to the stadium..I'm not paying to park.

You either fill the lots from the worst to best until everyone has a guaranteed space leaving the prime lots empty or nearly empty and people can then pay to upgrade via dynamic pricing or you engineer the cutoffs such that the top X lots are only Y% full, leaving 100 - Y spots available for upgrade in each prime lot. For instance, if you had 100 parking permits requested and 5 lots each with 40 spots available then you would place the highest 20 PP holders in lot 1 and the next 20 in lot 2 and so on. Each lot would be 50% full initially and people could upgrade to a better lot based on a dynamic pricing sale. Furthermore, if would not be difficult to give those with more PPs a sliding credit that they could spend on their upgrade.

I have no idea what you are proposing here. There is no way that what I think you are saying is even remotely possible.

So let's make things simple: Assume you have 6 lots (Red, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Black, and RAC), and assume each lot holds 100 cars, except RAC which holds 1000 cars. And assume you have 700 people looking for 700 parking passes. And to really make thing simple, we will assume everyone wants the Red lot first, followed by Yellow, Blue, Purple, Black, and the RAC is least desirable.

Right now Rutgers assigns in priority point order. The 100 people with the most points get the Red lot, the next 100 get Yellow, the next 100 get Blue, the next 100 get Purple, the next 100 get Black, and the remaining 200 get the RAC.

How does your plan work?

A quick criticism of the light blue lot. I counted 6 RU facilities trucks parked in the lot. Two of the trucks were taking up 4 spaces each that's 12 spaces which were taken up by RU trucks, and those were only the ones I saw when I parked next to them. When I arrived at about 11:00 the lot was full and attendants were moving tailgates out of spaces to accommodate people who where parking.

not really sure I see a lot of complaints on the cost..more so getting bumped and seeing all the open lots. and the walk just getting too damn long..that's mine. Would still love to see some sort of shuttle to/from the remote lots..or a better process to get the other lots full. I'd certainly pay a bit more to get back up there...just saying there are other options to explore once you get so far away.

I am proposing 2 options.

Option 1 would be to fill from the back forward. Using your example all 700 season ticket holders would be initially assigned to the RAC. You would then run an auction/dynamic pricing sale allowing people to move up lots giving priority or a credit to those with more PPs. Because the pricing is dynamic eventually you reach a point where all the forward lots are 100% filled by those willing to pay for the luxury or completely happy with the lot they are in. Note - The initial parking assignment is simply a place holder assuming that basically everyone wants to move up.

Option 2 would be to partially fill the lots and then run the same auction/dynamic pricing sale. In other words, using your example - Red would be filled with the top 50 PP holders, Yellow with the next 50, Blue with the next 50, Purple with the next 50, Black with the next 50 and the remaining 450 at the RAC. You would then run an auction to let people upgrade lots as in example 1.

People have gotten bumped from Blue to yellow to purple to black and almost to silver, since 2005. Donations haven't decreased that much. Capacity? we only expanded the stadium by 9 thousand (44k to 53k), sorry there's not only 9k people in Blue-Black lots. And they've been empty near the stadium. Something fishy.

Also, the strategy should be simple: if there are 1000 spots in the Scarlet lot, than the 1000 people with the most priority points who requested Scarlet get it. There shouldn't be a "cutoff" for any lots, since it will never work out to be the exact numbers to fill every space.

Isn't the auction essentially what they are doing in terms of priority points. You earn priority points all year, and then after the cut off date, you are assigned parking based on the points you've accrued. If your auction isn't based on priority points, how does your auction work? How do people bid on parking? Does the ticket office call each person? Give me workable specifics.

That is what they do.

This. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Since 2005? In 2005, average attendance was 33,184, and about half of that was single-game tickets that didn't qualify for season parking passes. By 2011, average attendance had increased to 43,761. Last year average attendance was 50,632. And only a small portion was single-game tickets.

I will say that the parking system is imperfect and I don't think Rutgers is going to fix it anytime soon . I've accepted that and wherever I end up I am ok with Z
However , I would think if you're condemned to the far away lots on Busch the face value of the pass should be less . There is no need to charge $30 for light blue, tan and even silver . $15-20 would be fair .

No one wants to comment on PSL's? Are they legal for tax exempt organizations?
Been covered on this board plenty of times. If you purchase a seat license you can't claim a charitable deduction.
PSL= Pros-For profit corporations
Seat Donation=Colleges-Tax exempt charities.
PSLs would be a really bad idea for Rutgers.

The face value is less. Scarlet/Green parking is $50. Yellow/Blue/Purple is $40. The $30 for the far away Busch lots is less. If you want to pay even less, you can park even further away at the RAC for $20.

I go bumped to the purple from blue to black this year. So any way I come
thru Bartholomew almost at the black and had to turn left the next 4 lots were
filled so I kept going. and they guided me to the last black lot. which was
on the corner of Frelinhysen and Bartholomew. So I was actually closer than
the purple. The lot was across from some small building that 20 years ago
I went to free, no tickets needed ever. So to make a short story long. The key
is for me to go late because that is the last lot they send people to. Black is
just a series of lots.

I think many have a false impression of how many parking spaces these lots hold.
Here's a rough guess: Please correct me if you know better.

Scarlet - 900
Green - 500
White - 250
Yellow - 700
Blue - 1500
Purple - 1500
Black - ?
Tan - ?
Lt Blue - ?
Silver ?

It takes a real commitment to get one of the 4000 odd spaces in the most desirable lots.
Now remember that the way it works every new vehicle in a lot pushes someone else out. This causes a trickle-down effect that can cause over half of a lots inhabitants to be pushed down to the next in a given year (like this one).
This is the first year afaik that we have seen R Fund donors assigned parking at the RAC.

The aesthetics around the light-blue will improve once the new chemistry building is done. But once the new engineering building project begins, the current purple lot will effectively go away. That's going to upset a lot of football fans. New premium parking lots need to be found and developed. Once people get pushed out to the point where their parking assignment is no longer "premium", they will stop donating (above what their tickets require).

In the physical master plan there is a ton of parking all around the perimeter of Busch campus. Some / most of that is where buildings stand today. There needs to be a reasonable plan to provide the needed premium parking (to encourage donating) while this long-term transition is underway.
