Got to disagree they were at like the 10 yd line up 6 with a guaranteed 3 to make it a two score game. Laviano's was at the 50 with what 10 to 14 seconds left on the clock with little chance to score.
Completely agree - and it was after a TO, so they had plenty of time to plan the next play. As Gruden said, walking off at the end of the half, when asked about the play, "it was supposed to be a fade to Garcon - I have no idea why he did that - we'll have to talk about it at halftime." One of the dumbest plays I've ever seen - way, way worse than Laviano's.
The crazy thing Is tht he can't say he accidentally kneed while he was supposed to spike, because he wasn't going to spike due to the timeout stopping the clock. And this was worse than Laviano. Laviano had just taken a sack and we had no timeouts.
If 'Skins had lost - it would have been a Billy Buckner moment........

Except that watching the replays...no receivers even attempted to run any type of pattern....on another note, I have noooo idea why Chip Kelly even calls a TO before that...That blew my mind also!! If the Eagles had won by a point or two.. This might have been remembered as the biggest brainfart ever...Instead, its just a funny footnote that people will laugh at tomorrow night on C'mon man!
The delay of game penalty stopped the clock so I think Kelly wanted more explanation from the ref. Not a big deal IMO.

But was the clock set to restart on refs. whistle? Or snap?....It appeared as if it was set to start on refs whistle as they were set up for the spike and waiting for ref to start the clock...Would love to hear explanations from all parties about this whole sequence...

Fairly sure that in the last 4 minutes of a half, the clock doesn't start until the snap on any flag (accepted penalty or not).

Laviano's goof definitely was not way worse. Laviano was during the speed of the game (not coming out of a time out) and the down marker still said 3rd down. Not giving him a pass as the QB should be fully aware of where the game is but the Cousins play is far worse.
