Looks like Priority Points have been updated

Here's an interesting little tidbit I just found out after going back and forth with the foundation today. Any funds (corp match funds) that come thru AFTER April 30, 2014 but BEFORE the fiscal year starts (July 1) do NOT count towards annual giving for the next year's PP/Parking. Those funds only count towards Lifetime Giving (at 1/10th the benefit) or Priority Points for Bowl Tix and Baskketball Season Tix.

I had funds come thru on June 26th of 2014...they were after the fact for last year's parking (I get that)...but they don't count towards this year's either? can you say "mind the gap"... now I have to manage WHEN my corp matches come thru..seems like an easy adjustment for them to make but it is Rutgers ya know...oh well.

I've missed out on $1200 work of donation matching over the last two years because of this donut hole. Even when following the guidelines from my company based on when they payout, I've still run into issue. Unfortunately, companies delay their matching at time and even if they say the match will be sent in the first quarter, it can come later. RU really needs to fix this and somehow make sure the donations either count towards the current year or the next year. There is no reason donations from may through June couldn't count towards the next year's priority points.

That would be a large increase IMO, but I have no clue how they decide. I understood last years increase since they counted seat gift $$ towards PP. This year there is no reason to increase by that much.

I would think there would be a few upset customers if it went that high.

They don't decide. They put all the season ticket holders in priority point order, and go down the list and assign parking. So if the person with the most points requests Scarlet, he is assigned Scarlet. If the next person requests Green, he is assigned Green. Once a lot is full, they stop assigning people to that lot.

So let's say the Scarlet lot holds 1000 cars. And lets say the 1000th car assigned to that lot is the person with 98 priority points. And let's say the person next on the priority point list has 97 points and has requested Scarlet as their first choice. So since the Scarlet lot is now full, that person can't be assigned to the Scarlet lot. That person will be assigned to their second choice (assuming it is not full). And now we know that the cut off for Scarlet is 98 points, because that is the last car that got into the lot.

No one "decided" that the cut off for Scarlet is 98. That just happens to be what it is.

I've known others to run into the same issue in the past. Your best bet, if your company is slow making matching gifts is to submit your donation and match request on July1. That gives your company 10 months to submit the match.

While it would be nice for Rutgers to credit May/June donations to the following year, I think there is a problem with crediting donations made in one fiscal year to the next. And for football parking assignments, Rutgers can't wait until June 30 to start assigning parking.

Blue is funner.
Blue seems to have a better view, in general, than Yellow. Which is nice. But it comes at a price. Blue seems to get more than it's fair share of pickup truck centered mosh-pit parties w/vomiting kids. I hear that may be a problem of the past these days, though.

Yellow is definitely a bit more tame, which has it's pros and cons. Mostly, what Yellow has going for it is that it's generally very quick to exit after the game.

My company let's you submit the match request anytime in the same calendar year. They say they send the match in the quarter after you submit. I usually donate in March and the submit the match in July for the exact reason you state. Unfortunately to get the 5 extra pp this year I donated and submitted the match in November but the company just sent the match in May.

It is 2015 now. The entire process of deciding who gets which lot and how many point people have should be automated so on July 1st the computer should spit out the lot assignments and they can be sent to the ticket printer. There's really no reason to have to cut the points off at the end of april.

The pickup truck-centered mosh pit parties have been relegated to Hamsterdam. There were none last season. The exit issue is still an issue, albeit not as much of one. We've solved it by keeping the tailgate operational until at least an hour after the game. Everybody enjoys it, although @RUScrew85 generally sleeps on the car.

I based my 15 pts on life time giving + bonus pts for renewal + bowl game tickets.

You could be 100% correct in your thought process. But I throw this out to you, what about the people with high PP that don't want to be in Scarlet or Green? I know a lot of people ( me included) who choose Yellow instead of Scarlet.

There is also the case of having the PPs for a lot but not donating enough to be in that lot. In both cases they move to the next group on the list and when the lot is full they start filling the next lot. It is done as Upstream described.

What about them. If number 7 on the priority point list wants Yellow, they get assigned to Yellow. As they go down the list in order they assign them to their most preferred lot that is not full.

I don't think those people change the math much. The person or persons with the least number of priority points in any given lot once that lot is filled effectively establishes the "cutoff".

predict the cutoff for parking? I think every lot goes up by 15 pts.

Given the fact that this would make the cutoff for the Blue Lot at 46 points and given the fact that I have 45.96 points, with my luck, I'd guess that would be just about right.

And what about people like me that have 112 Priority Points but can't possibly donate $2500 to park in Scarlet where I have been for about 3 decades. In placing you in a parking lot the Priority Points is now secondary to your $ donation. Minimum donation for Scarlet is $2500, Green $1500 and Yellow $1000.

Come to yellow, way better then Scarlet. More room, easier in and out and not as stuffy.

I actually used to like blue a bit more than yellow (never minded the mosh pits and collateral "entertainment"), but our crew got tired of the long exit lines, especially for night games, so yellow it is. Looking forward to having 3 yellow lot passes this year (we only needed two in past years, so we sold one to a friend, but decided to keep all 3 this year, assuming we get all 3), so we can spread out a little more - will make fitting cornhole in a lot easier.

OK I spoke to my Ticket Rep. As I thought my points are incorrect. I was not credited with the annual donation I made in April. This is the 2nd time this has happened in the last 8 years. I have the receipt from the Foundation and my credit card statement. She said she'll get it fixed and let me know when it's done..

How do you say "fitting cornhole" with a straight face, is what I want to know. I know I couldn't do it.

That's insane. No way does it happen. Last year went up due to new/expanded seat donation requirements.

I have been told it will be about 10 points above last year. Not clear if that is for every lot, but likely at least up to yellow.

As Upstream said, they assign spaces to each person, in descending order of priority points. So a person with high points may request and be assigned any lot they like. But once all spaces in a lot are full, then no one else can be assigned there. It doesn't matter what the highest point-level (of a person) in each lot is. The only number that's important is what the point level of the last person assigned to each lot is. And it's only important in that it gives people a clue as to how much they need to grow their point balance to get into that lot in future years..

I think that the new minimum donation requirements being used in addition to priority points will shuffle some people between Scarlet, Green, Yellow, Blue and Purple. I would not be surprised to see the point levels for Scarlet and Green to drop because of this, while Blue see's a dramatic increase.

Even that seems higher than what I expected. I was expecting 5-7 points.

I don't think it's jumping 10 points. Blue jumped from 19 to 31 between the 2013 and 2014 season and that was mostly due to everyone buying bowl tickets to Pinstripe. This year people donated tickets to the Quick Lane bowl and renewed early but I don't think that's going to create a 10 point increase across the board because the Pinstripe bowl was a one time thing and won't be counted again on your PP. I was thinking it would bump up maybe 5-7 points like @Leonard23 thinks. I also truly hope some of the complainers from last year are not in Blue again. I can't thank you enough for the insane police presence and quiet atmosphere you created (and I'm not a student).

my best guess.....ticket holders that are making their donation in April are doing it very late in the process and when the university updated totals they had not figured yours out yet.....if you were to finish your payments in January or February, for example, your totals would be right in May

you probably have a lot of company, people waiting till the very last minute to make their payments....

other thoughts:.....the fan who qualifies for the scarlet but wants Yellow as his first choice should have no problem getting yellow...first off yellow if a fairly large lot, with probably a lot of fans that barely qualify for yellow, so you should easily bump someone out of yellow, if necessary.....

my personal concern is the scarlet lot vs green......I can foresee a lot of scarlets not making the necessary parking donation anymore, so they may choose the green lot as their new first choice, and the green lot is very small.....so many people that had the green a along, could be bumped elsewhere with the scarlet lotters being moved there.....

You could be right although it's been a month since I made the donation. I didn't wait till the last day or last week.

I have the upmost confidence the Rep will get this fixed. She seems like a hard worker and very responsible.

When it happened in 2007-08 I was basically told "oh well" and ended up at the RAC.

Just spoke to a rep. Parking lot assignments will be made by July.

Is it?
Try this. A husband and wife couple would need to donate a total of $2500 to get into the Scarlet Lot.
But 4 couples could combine their ticket request and get 8 seats, 2 parking passes and each couple would only have
to donate $625. In each case they have the same # of Priority points.

Read in your best Allen Iverson voice: "We're talking about parking."

Now switch to Hillary Clinton: "What difference does it make?"

Guess I didn't study hard enough at Rutgers to afford to fork over thousands to have a shorter walk seven days a year. See ya in the black lot!

I agree. RU gets less money per pass from those who order multiple passes thanthey do with me with my 4 ticket order with one pass. Doesn't seem fair.
