So many on here said before the season this team was guaranteed the ncaas, and probably a deep run, because we had two lottery picks. Some of us, a definite minority was skeptical when looking at all the pieces. Now many of those who were wrong are coming back with youth as an excuse. Some even echo what the minority said in Oct/nov, “their lottery picks for what they project to be in a couple of years, that doesn’t assure freshman success”. Here’s my question, do you think Pike knew Ace and Dylan’s hype was of what their potential could be in a couple of years or did he think he had two college studs this year? If A why did he change his defensive mindset and think bringing in slowfooted “shooters” was the right move (if he knew Ace and Dylan couldn’t carry a team”?

I mean, Pike knows basketball. He knows that talents like Ace and Dylan are advanced, but they are ranked that way based on their future and would have ups and downs as freshman. Their talent is still above anything he's had. Really have no idea why he went the way he did, perhaps he thought Martini and Derkack were defensive pick ups? I do think Hayes was just a late flyer to see if he could do anything.

I was one who warned teams led by youth struggle, but still expected to be on the bubble. Wasn't the biggest fans of the portal pick ups as none were proven at this level and we needed at least two, maybe three of them to successfully step up in comp.

I imagine around October he was say in to himself:
I've got these two guys that are amazing talents and can get better everyday. That is why they are going to be NBA draft picks because they are very able to get better. BUT, they are only focused on the parts of the game their advisers told them to focus on. They say all the right things but they do not put in the effort on D and the do not put in the effort to get better on D. They'll make the occasional play but they will hold back that elite sustained high level of play they are capable of . Stars set the table. It's true on the olympic dream team and it is true in biddy basketball. When your stars don't play hard-work-for-easy-buckets offense and are narcoleptic on defense, it's a messy table. (Salad fork goes on the outside.)

I mean if you want to feel really bad about what we did to the program this year if you look at MOST mock drafts 12 of the top 15 picks are playing in the NCAA tournament and 10 of them are also freshmen

You can win with freshmen if you construct the roster around them properly... we did probably the worst job in the history of modern basketball at constructing a roster around 2 generational talents

You don’t think he had a clue that was coming before Oct?

Because we treated it as an an audition for the NBA for them

So much of the posts on this board are overanalyzing this past year and I can’t ask a question. Rich.

I’m not trying to single you out. “So much of the posts on this board are overanalyzing this past year” is exactly the reason for my response.

If you’ve moved on don’t comment on ANY posts analyzing anything about this past year
Did not mean to offend. By all means continue your quest for answers surrounding this past year.
