Mag’s Back

Great News ! Don't know how much he can contribute vs Seton Hall given his almost 1 year layoff but hoping that he'll be close to good when conference play commences in January !

Lord we need him and once he settles in - hopefully everyone will settle into their roles better !

Whose minutes do you think will be most detrimentally impacted with Mag returning?

I'm guessing it'll be Woolfolk.
That would seem to make sense. Wolf isn't rebounding at the 4. Mag will be better in that area by default. That's been our biggest issue

In theory, Wolf brings to the table a lot of what Mag brings. Defense, rebounding, toughness, hustle along with size, length, and athleticism. I don't know if it was the weight loss, but Wolf doesn't seem to be battling the way I would expect especially from a football player. He's not bringing those glue guy effort plays and physicality

On the plus side his ball handling passing and offensive game made strides in the right direction. The skill side is improved

Oskar has been playing well and gives a different look so it would be hard to eliminate him from the rotation. It also doesn't send the right message that on court performance matters since he's out played essentially everyone else. His veteran presence and experience has shown up this year. He's also been showing a lot of hustle and heart out there

Does Mag take on Richmond? We have no one really who can... Williams or Hyatt I guess would be the other options. Noah Simpson Davis all tiny. Gavin doesn't want any part of that

Will we see the press when Mag is in?

I have to admit I was losing interest in the '23-'24 season rapidly. This injects some enthusiasm back. It will be interesting to see how effective he is coming off of this injury.
I said we needed to get two of the four games between Illinois, Wake, SHU, and MIss St. It's still not too late to get it done and get the train back on track. This is a big one.

Ask Mag to rebound and get put backs, screen, and glove who he’s guarding. Don’t need to pass him the ball for him to have a big impact. He averaged almost 9 rebounds per 40 last season.

Desperate times = you try new things. It’s part Cliff but more about the cast who surrounds him. Why not bring Cliff in the first substitution? It may just be a start needed to make use of Gavin’s potential to open it up . As this board understands well… if you don’t rebound and get to the rim consistently most times you lose. Next year the scoring and game changes for Rutgers and those who play us.

Not starting our best rebounder on a team that has been getting MURDERED on the glass is not the right answer to the Cliff problem.

Sorry to offend your thinking but read what was written. It may actually help Cliff and the team. Not a motivational thing but understanding where his team is underperforming. It’s not a punishment . Cliff needs to be dominant on the glass. Perhaps getting Mawot back helps . Hey at this point after two blowout losses which could have been much different had players showed some cajones. Defense and rebounding has always been about heart . So far this Rutgers team has shown very little pride on the boards. Scoring comes with D and rebound advantage especially with who we play tonight.

Cliff isn't playing well but he is by far our best rebounder. Wolf's area of biggest disappointment has been his rebounding. Starting him as a solution to our rebounding problem doesn't make any sense

Can we go without him in a game …at the start… for less than 4-5 minutes? I don’t care if he’s our best rebounder. We have sucked on the boards for at least these past two games. Maybe it shows these other players “ you have to put a body on somebody”. We are soft as Charmin…

Cliff needs to dominate if he’s as good as people all claim. Is that asking too much? Smallish guards are fine if your other guys are rebounding. We have and other teams have won with undersized … less than 6’4” - 6’5” guys. This is a possible way to get guys to realize,” small guys can rebound too. “ Maybe Mag plays above what one would expect? As a high energy and as intense as Mawot can be we better not be expecting too much out of the box TONIGHT.

Take a step back and listen to what you're suggesting. To send a message to the team about rebounding, you want to bench the best rebounder

If he wants to send a message about rebounding specifically, start the strongest rebounding lineup you can think of. This lineup would obviously include Cliff

Pretend Cliff is unavailable due to stomach issue from eating something bad earlier and I s stuck in the bathroom. Some need to understand I’m not knocking Cliff but the surrounding pieces. Because you can jump out of the gym does not make a great rebounder. Helps … but there is more to it. Good luck … we will need to be beasts on the board … pass… and make those chippies.

You're knocking the other players by benching Cliff?

Please tell me you don't coach

Exactly… guys who come in as reserves… yeah some can be the best rebounders. Some may be better … Is Gavin a good rebounder… Is Simpson a good rebounder? Do we have or seen other teams with 6-7-8th off the bench who can rebound? Thought as a long time poster here you knew that. Anyway it’s up to Pikiell to figure it out who is not a wuss on the glass.

I’m knocking them all at this point… you think I’m being unfair or hurtful? Poor boys… No but coddling guys who are being compensated both through scholarships and NIL… yes they can be knocked not only by the coaching staff but alums and fans who actually pay $ $$$ to watch and support them on their life’s journey. They are old enough, seasoned from youth basketball to withstand criticisms from people.

Remember Shrewsbury's press conference after we blew out Penn State at the RAC last year? Came right out and questioned the manhood of his players. Pike could have copied that word for word after the Wake Forest game.

Looking forward to another 4 point, 4 board game tonight and fouling out early!

i don't think we should expect much from Mag in his first game. i hope he does great tonight but don't count on it.

Oh My God Wow GIF

If healthy a no-brainer that you have Mag on Richmond. I wonder if we give him an easier player to start and hope that his help side defense can flash.

Over/Under/Push on Mag:

Minutes: 16
Boards: 5
Points: 6
Steals: 2
TO's: 3

I think you’re pretty close on a lot of these. I’ll take a shot:

Minutes: over (but very close)
Boards: over
Points: push
Steals: push
TOs: under

Richmond will eat Hyatt up.

Pretty sure we're now a FF team, lol. I'm just excited to see what Mag(ic) we get from Mawot. I'm sure he'll start slow, but even just starting to work his way back in should give the team a lift and hopefully help us to play better.

The Richmond question was Davis and Mag mostly from what I remember seeing. Both did pretty well as he's a really tough cover. Kudos to both but especially Davis as a freshman on the road in the rivalry game giving up a ton of size and strength. Warriors mindset
