Maori Davenport

That is really a shame. No fault of hers. That kind of rule would be a real disincentive for athletes to represent their country in tournaments of that kind. The state also needs to get with the program as well. That tiny limit was probably passed decades ago when postage stamps cost 4 cents each.

This is absolutely BS. She represents our country, does a great job and then loses her final year of her HS season by a mistake made by someone else...a reusable US organization? She cannot ever get back her senior season. Unbelievable! She will automatically be one of my favorite players when she gets to the Banks!

She should just transfer to a private hs or academy like IMG or Monteverde, but not be able to afford it.

Also Charles Henderson HS is a public Alabama HS with a high minority enrollment. Did I mention it was in Alabama ? They got her on a technicality.

This kind of thing really ticks me off (and would tick me off even if she was UConn or Baylor recruit) - the mistakes were made by other people, she repaid the money, and she still has to pay the price. If anybody involved in Alabama high school athletics had a lick of sense, she would be playing now.

Things like this show the lack of judgement and sense of fair play some organizations have towards the kids they are in control of.

Glad not all are like the Alabama one and others allowed the kids to play after paying back the money sent to them by mistake.

This is heartbreaking and shows no common sense on behalf of the Alabama athletic association. She is going to be a star for RU.

This is really sad and pathetic. No fault of her own. She learns of this and her parents try to pay back the entire sum which was only about $850+ and she can't play her entire senior year in HS. Yet, UNC can create all kinds of corrupt practices and the NCAA looks the other way and doesn't even slap them on the risk. Where is the proportionality? There is none between HC, college, the NCAA and rules governing amateur athletes.

You make a good point about the NCAA's weakness in enforcing what should have been a punishable offense but in this case:
I'd put this squarely on the Alabama High School Athletic Association pettiness and poor judgement.

At least the NCAA isn't trying to find a reason to disqualify Maori from playing her freshman season at Rutgers.

It isn't a problem for NCAA athletes, probably due to NCAA's relationship with USA Basketball.
