Anyone going to the Maryland game this Sunday? My son and I bought tickets at the begining of the season. After the Michigan game I was beginning to question whether we should go. But now, after Illinois im really looking forward to going. Will be my first time there. Anyone else heading down? Hope to see you there.

Go RU!

If we weren’t having people over for the superbowl I would’ve gone. Decent seats on the Rutgers side were available a few weeks ago

I plan on leaving North jersey very early Sunday morning. Hopefully it looks like the worst of the bad weather will ge over by then. 🙏

I’ll be there. Here in DC already, going to Seton Hall GTown at noon here in a bit. Then Hawks Wizards tonight. Rutgers MD tomorrow morning then a scramble to get back to Jersey to watch Super Bowl. Should be a fun weekend.

I was at the game yesterday. It was my first time in the Xfinity Center on the UMD campus. It is a big, modern venue with sky boxes and a huge jumbotron. As much as I love the RAC and don't want to change it, I can see why some people would want to build something similar at RU.

By all accounts the atmosphere was terrible, bafflingly so considering UMD’s basketball pedigree and current product on the court. No thanks

I asked my daughter (she's been to a dozen or so UMD games in that arena) and she said the volume/crowd was about average. It got pretty loud when UMD made a big play but you can't duplicate the acoustics at the RAC in that big of a venue.

One other thing. I sat in the student section with my daughter. They have a group similar to the Riot Squad. They hand out a sheet with instructions of things to say and do (i.e. clap just before a UMD guy is about to take a free throw, read the provided newspaper while the other team is being announced, etc.)

Well they had this gem on the sheet (I'm paraphrasing):
"Rutgers likes to brag that they hosted the first ever college football game. What they don't tell you is that they lost the game 40-2".

Even my daughter (UMD student) looked at me and said "that isn't true is it?"

OK one more. I tried to keep a low profile during the game. But at one point late in the first half, Dylan was taking free throws and all the kids around me started chanting "Overrated". I looked at my daughter and laughed and I said they are going to be sorry they poked the bear. The next trip down the court was when he had that highlight reel spin move assist to Grant. I got a little too vindictive and screamed "OVERRATED!" at the top of my lungs, drawing the attention of the entire student section. I think they decided not to mess with the crazy old man because I didn't get any responses.

I have to agree with you Lou, for the size of the crowd, it was not as loud as i expected. they have a decibel meter that they show on the scoreboard during some timeouts. the thing is they are blaring music through the sound system and you can’t even hear the crowd . I found it also odd that i didnt see the meter rise above 90.
for the most part it stayed between 80 and 90db whenever I was looking at it. This makes me suspect the meter is not real and just a visual gimmick?
Also, as a point of reference, when im in my seat in sect 304 at the RAC my apple watch consistently gets readings between 95-105db at key points of the game. Im told it’s even louder down on the floor. During this game my watch did not notify me of any excessive noise levels.
I must say the flag over the students was cool and was very loud.
Concerning the arena, it was ok but nothing special. the concourse with the wall of fame, trophies and other displays was pretty nice.
Biggest drawback i encountered was the traffic and parking. It was a total nightmare. I'm glad i left in plenty of time to see the tip off. going to the RAC is a walk in the park compared to the Xfinity center.
Lastly, I was able to attend the Rutgers game at Assembly Hall in Bloomington earlier this year. The arena and the total game experience was far superior to that of the Maryland game.
Im glad I went but Im not sure ill go back, unless it a big game.
