Maryland Game Announcements At Stadium

It was julie's deal l, which he was held to.
This has been written ad nauseum and confirmed through OPRA requests.

I'm beginning to feel this Yankee Stadium thing is going to be like Penn State threads. Someone will continue to post about it regardless of how non-relevant it is
Your full of crap. There was no deal by Herman. Hobbs inked the contract. He publicly admitted that it was his decision alone and he said that he would not follow through if he did not think it was a good deal for RU. That was written about in every paper.

Three weeks later he came out and said that there was and agreement IN PRINCIPLE with the Yankees made by JH. Agreement in principle is not a contract. That is not a contract. Repeating this lie over and over again will not make this true. Don't pull this OPRA crap. There may have been emails back and forth and notes at RU, but a contract never existed.

Nobody is imprssed with you or any other fan skipping a winnable game where Maryland is on their 4th or 5th qb either. Sorry but 16 year olds drive into the city on Saturday and Sunday with ease. Why a bunch of grown men cry and bitch about it is beyond me, but you're all pathetic.

Yep. Take your little cartoon icon and go play D&D. Men are talking, here.

you want RU to be the Big 10 NYC area team but you cant travel 19 mile to NYC IN a famous ballpark to support RU? Think other B10 fan bases, who actually have won something and have a B10 history act like you? Im glad its a home game again, BUT I was going to game at Yankee stadium, players were pumped about playing there, and ,when you get the chance to build upon why you were put in the B10,you dont act like some of this fan base did
Sad.

How is Yankee Stadium a "famous ballpark"?

Its been there less than 10 years.

What makes it "famous"?

With the game more than 2 weeks away, why was Rutgers able to be released from the contracted game? Hope we don't hear about some payout Rutgers has to pay to be released from this. Glad it was switched, its very good news.
There was a thread on this a couple of nights ago. Someone posted this time lapse clip that showed how the field is converted. If the Yankees were going to make it to the World series, there would not have been enough time to sod, convert the field for football, and let the sod set for enough time to be playable on. They needed at least 8 to 9 days lead time for that part, but the Yankees said that for logistics purposes they had to make the call when they did. That was a full week earlier that that 8 day window.

My guess is that logistics included buying and shipping the sod as well as many other things. Yankee stadium is not an artificial turf field where they can just zip in a new carpet.

I live in JC and YS is closer for me but I would rather home games get played at home.

All conference home games should be in Pway from now until the end of time. Non-conference neutral site games, OK, we can talk, not conference games.

My guess is Hobbs seized on the WS knowing fans were upset. Whether it was him or JH I am curious but it is over now so hopefully the lesson is learned.

It would be interesting to see the fan base reaction IF Ru moved a home game or played a neutral site B10 game at the Meadowlands,The backlash Im asking about from Brass is the B10 probably pushed the Yankee stadium game as B10 brand
in NYC just like they will hold the B10 BASKETBALL tournament in NYC MSG,this season, not Columbus, not Ann Arbor, but in NYC..Clearly they are pushing the B10 footprint on eastern seaboard NYC to Washington.

your right...pushing the big 10 brand was the only reason ru was playing at the new Y.S...sometimes you have to take one for the team. in this case
the league.

as a businessman of 40 years, I always found it was better to try to give the customers what they wanted, for the most part..... if customer after customer voiced displeasure, I would try to do what ever I could to rectify the problem, the fear being that I would not only lose THAT customer, but others
who are silent on the issue.

we have heard many a RU fan here say they are not renewing anymore, for various reasons, mostly because they don't like the product on the field..

You don't add to that displeasure if you can help it..... to say that the program will just disregard what they are hearing would be foolish

best guess, we don't have a game scheduled there again..... Hobbs is a smart man
The game was set. Anger didn't change it. This move had nothing to do with the customer. Many parties involved pushed this game back to Piscataway.

Quite frankly, the fan is last to be considered. TV, corporate money who buy advertising, boxes and corporate seats. Oh yeah, the commoner.

If the commoner was ever considered, East coast baseball games wouldn't start at 8:08pm and football wouldn't be played in baseball stadiums. The commoners? Hahahahah. The commoners....

nice post, but it is a lot simpler than that when it comes to RU..... RU has a decreasing fan base and really cannot afford to have that trend continue..... season ticket sales have dropped each of the past couple of years, and it looks like it will again for next year...

if you have less fans it is hard to justify premium pricing, or even holding the prices we now pay for seats and parking..... concession sales suffer, ....something has to give

that being an issue, you want to make the fans want to renew....you do this by not putting them through situations they do not want, like the Yankee game....

looking at it from the Yankee side, sure they worry less about the consumer if they are buried in tv money and other corporate money..... not so much, RU... yes there is tv money, but the RU product suffers with less tv and live fan support.

Rutgers has been trying to market CFB in NYC for awhile now. The only proven recipe is a showcasing a strong Rutgers football program which plays meanigful and competitive games against ranked or well known football teams. What part of sports entertainment do these supposed experts in sports marketing understand?

This is a case where the B1G needs to understand a rising tide floats all boats. Accelerate RUs full revenue share and stop the gimmicks.

Stop already. Reported attendance was over 38,000; and there were very few no shows given the weather and the win the prior week.
Are you being serious? Think there were more people in the lots than the stadium. It was a sad showing for homecoming. Tickets were sold and lots were full, but people rather tailgate than see the game.

Why would there be?

B1G could care less where we schedule our home games.
Agreed. The B1G doesn't care if we 0-100 and play at Piscataway HS the next 80 years.

They are making money hand over first with NYC TV money and their big programs are stripping our land of players.

Just a bunch of children pretending to be adults who have a strange phobia with driving into NYC. We get it. You're scared of doing things like going places you haven't been or that you're unfamiliar with.

Anyone who would have boycotted going into NYC (basically an extra 45-50 min on a Saturday) is a panzy fan..sorry.

I did about 11 years of commuting to client's offices in NYC, including the Yankees at the stadium decades ago. I love it, but for FB, my seats @ HPSS are better and the drive is 68% shorter. I had plans for the Bronx, but one of my friends, who was captain of his college hockey team, bailed because of the drive. You can ask him if he's a pansy. He weighs about 225, is a heavy equipment operator and lumberjacks recreationally. I get you, doe... My tailgate party is better in Piscataway, as well.

Hey I'm not saying I'd like it better I'm just saying you gotta support your team..winnable game 45 min from campus. I traveled to UConn for an away game..now that...was a straight up dogshit venue. I'd understand if the game was there..but in NYC you can always find something to do before or after the game.

Anyone attending was a stupid sheeple waiting to be fleeced. Sorry.

correct, because the question you asked regarding OSU vrs RU is not a valid comparison.
NOW: if you asked for a more Valid comparison of say a newer entry B10 school playing a home game in a pro stadium to build there brand and push the B10 market, thats easy.
Maryland will play at Fed Ex Field vrs Texas NEXT season.
the horror! a whole 11 miles away.
Texas Longhorns finalize football series with Maryland in 2017 and 2018. In Austin in 2017 and at FedEx Field in 2018.
Last I checked FedEx field is a FOOTBALL STADIUM. The stupidity is endless on this board!

Sad.

There are lots of people who are upset. But Tango is for sure the biggest baby about the whole thing. Finds a way to bring it up in almost every thread.

Julie worked the deal out. Hobbs signed it in good faith to not create any bad blood between the two sides. Hobbs found a way to get the deal nixed and the game moved back to HPSS. Hobbs is the man!! Game, set, and match!!!
