....for the men's soccer team, now that OSU has defeated UMd to move one point ahead of us in the BIG standings. For the men to win the B1G title, they must win at UMd and then hope that OSU + Michigan either tie or Michigan wins. Those results would leave RU alone at the top and give the university its first team B1G championship.

Right now, momentum is clearly with RU. The Terps seem to have cooled off a bit. Let's hope that continues this week.

If OSU wins, they are the regular season champs as they have one point on us with both teams having one game remaining. OSU must lose or tie and RU must win for RU to be the regular season champs. The fourth place team, currently, is Michigan and I believe that they still have a shot at the title if they defeat OSU, and we either lose to or tie UMd. UMd is now out of the running, I believe, but can play the spoiler role against us.

So if both ru and osu win... Is it a tie or osu wins?

Yes OSU is a point ahead of us.

However, if we win and OSU ties/loses to Michigan, RU wins the regular season championship. RU has beaten all other other top schools head-to-head, so a win versus Maryland would mean no worse than 2nd place finish.

If RU ties Maryland, RU could finish between 2nd and 4th (A tie guarantees RU hosts a first round conference championship game).

With a loss, RU could fall at the way to 6th (or stay as high as 3rd).

Ugh this is frustrating! That stinkin' loss to Wisconsin is killing us right now!

LET'S GO RU GET IT DONE!!!

"Lets go Michigan then!"

Yes, let's go Michigan but RU still must win to finish on top. I expect us to win over UMd. I'm hoping that the two games are played at the same time so neither RU nor Michigan knows the result of the other game while still playing. I say that because if OSU and Michigan play earlier and OSU wins, then we go in to our game knowing that the championship is out of reach. Similarly, Michigan needs us to lose or tie in order to still have a shot at the title going into their game at OSU.

Don't forget, we are now tied with Northwestern for second in the Big Ten with 12 points each, with one game remaining for everyone. All games played this Wednesday. Ohio State sits one point ahead of both of us with 13 points. All teams finish the regular season on Wednesday with the 'Cats traveling to Wisconsin and the Buckeyes hosting Michigan. We play at Maryland. A win by Northwestern and a tie or loss by the Buckeyes would give the Wildcats at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title with us. Wins are worth 3 points and ties 1 point.

This week's RPI rankings are out and RU comes in #29, which is up from the low 50s just a couple of weeks ago. The RU women are #3, behind only PSU, whom we've beaten, and #1 Florida State. The soccer coaches polls for this week are not out yet.

The current Big 10 standings are interesting. Rutgers could win the championship with a win, an Ohio State loss and a Northwestern tie. Rutgers could also end up in a 3 way tie for 4th.
Based on the current standings, Rutgers has beaten the teams current 1st, tied for second 4th and 5th (3 of which were on the road) and lost to bottom 3 teams, all at home.
Hopefully the most recent games will be the best predictor.

The coaches polls are both out. The RU women moved up 2 spots to #7 and the men jumped 5 spots to #16. Both are the highest ranked B1G teams - let's hope that transfers into championships this week.

OSU is the only other men's team in the top 25 at #18, though IU is tied for #26, to lead the ARVs.

Good numbers. Need to close it out. Go RU.

Anyone here think that even 6 months ago this thread could have existed? :sunglasses:

All bad things happening. We lose, Maryland then wins, Northwestern winning, OSU winning, and Indiana won. With these scores standing, the standings will be:

1 OSU
2 Northwestern
3 Indiana
4 Maryland
5 Rutgers

So we went from having the chance to win the conference, to not even hosting a first round B1G tournament game and most likely getting knocked out in the second round at Ohio State.

Did you really expect anything less?

Seems like no Rutgers team of the 24 teams we have can win the really big games. Sucks.

Going from 5-12 last year to 11-5 so far this year is quite a turnaround...and it ain't over yet, folks.
At least try to maintain a slightly positive outlook going into the NU match...

Definitely agree. Was just hoping to close on it in regular season. Would be good to see them make a run to the finals in the Tourney to have strong shot at NCAAs.

Disappointing loss, to be sure. Let's hope RU finds its swag right away and starts another win streak on Sunday. The team finished tied for 3rd, with UMd and NW, so we get the 4th seed based upon head-to-head results. Had we won last night we would have finished second, while a tie would have meant we would have been tied with IU for second place, but would have the second seed based upon our win over them a while back. IU seemed to come out of nowhere to finish 2nd, while Michigan dropped all the way the 6th with its loss.

Eh. We wouldn't have won the conference anyway, so its a good time to get a loss out of the way. Show up in the tournament and this is meaningless.

Have you not paid attend to the women's team this year?

I have, and kudos to them to finish number 3 in regular season. Key will be can they win the B1G Tourney (or at least get to finals). Big fan of this team and coaches, but now is time to get over the top and take it all!
