Maryland versus Ohio State

Grant and Sommerville are going to have their hands full down low. If we could pull this game out, anything is possible

Maryland led 61-50 with just about 7 minutes left and Bruce Thornton turned the game completely around. He scored or did everything and Maryland just collapsed down the stretch. We shall find out whether we can take advantage of this or not.

Sorry a demoralizing home loss is the best scenario for RU in this case. From a pure psychy perspective. While our guys looked confident as they have all season. Perfect storm

I was rooting for MD so yet another team would fall into a tie with us (OSU). I figure the more teams that we're tied with or ahead, the better our chances for making the BTT. Oh well. Hopefully Oregon beats USC today.

I could be wrong but it seems like Willard teams over the years are pretty streaky month to month. Hopefully Feb sucks for them
January was always his bugaboo at Seton Hall.

Well, and March. Couldn't win a damn thing in the NCAAs. He usually got us there, but then it was like being a MAAC team, where you're just supposed to be happy to be there. (Although I guess that sounds OK as I type this in February 2025.)

That’s him in a nutshell.
He’s good but you think he really should be better. Gotta away with a lot at SHU.
Lost respect for him when he dodged Rutgers and played PSU instead during COVID Stuff.
Clearly we are in his head

Was watching some of this game last night: not impressed with Maryland at all. Lots of mistakes, too many instances of players driving straight to the basket to be a hero instead of passing, collapsed at the end of the game, etc. And Ohio State didn't look stellar either.

I wasn't a big fan. Didn't hate him and we were always pretty good once he got rolling, but there were years we definitely underachieved, at least in the NCAAs. Teams get upset, but we could count on early exits every year, and some of those teams were better than that. We could also count on underpeforming to the seed the team was good enough to earn. What I mean is that in 2018, for example, we had a really talented team, but we hit the usual January swoon, wound up in the 8/9 game (this team was probably 6-seed good), and even though we won that, you get the top seed next. You can't advance. (Well, you can, but Willard was already overperforming winning the first round!)

Anyway, this is one of those odd games where I'm not clearly rooting against Rutgers. It's a strange feeling...

I watched the last eight minutes or so. Ohio State had a ball-dominant guard take over down the stretch and Maryland could do nothing to stop him.

So... Dylan's healthy again, right? Just saying.

We always worry about how player X on the opposition is going to be hard to stop. Let's let Maryland/Willard lose sleep over how they are going to stop our Batman and Superman duo on Sunday.

I didn't watch most of the game but looks like OSU played a lot of small ball. Their two post players only combined for 25 minutes and no one else that played was taller than 6'6. Maybe that contributed to Maryland shooting so poorly from 3? I would love to see some lineups with Ace at the 4 and even some 5.

I was surprised that Maryland gave away game. Looks like they have really good 3 point shooters and two bigs. We will have our hands full on Sunday. Hopefully, Pike can come up with a masterpiece game plan against Willard. Or Ace and Dylan just light up Maryland. Latter is better chance than former if we wind up winning.

Our confidence is up. A healthy Dylan is unstoppable and he makes Ace better. Would have preferred to have both EO and Lathan available for this game, but need Grant and Martini to step up and keep Somerville out of foul trouble.
I like our chances . Short trip for us. This win will put us in a better place-standings wise and better chance for a bye in BIG tourney.
