Match Thread : Rutgers vs Michigan:

Good match ... Nick will definitely be Top 4 at nationals ... very tough weight class.

Nick was aggressor......there is no separation between the 2....
Best thing about that match is Desanto vs Suriano in the semis of B10
Micic got the td tho... my confidence in Suriano to win a title this year took a hit... ouch... dang man.... but he can redeem himself at big10... not giving up hope..

Very little separation in Nick’s weight class between 1 - 4 ... Nick can finish in any place 1 to 4

Feel the opposite. Feel a lot better after seeing him aggressive on his feet today vs doing nothing vs fix. He can win it all wrestling the way he did today

Team Is winning 2 to 3 matches as expected ... just glad Ash won and Nick took a few shots instead of sitting back and trying not to lose.

Correnti loses a close decision 6-4 ... UM up 25-7 ... some close matches today by RU.

It is what it is I guess. Suriano will have to beat Desanto or mich at B1G. To not get 5or 6 seed at Nats. He will have his hands full to get back to finals. I would guess wrestling for 3rd would be his ceiling. He really needs some kind of ride on top to keep the good guys down for awhile in these top 5 guys. That’s a problem. When u only score 2-3 or 4 points a match against top 5 guys that’s not good.

Suriano is still a title contender... it’s just going to be harder then what everyone thought

This should probably be a new thread but so sick of being a RU fan. We just lose tight matches, games, contests etc. what the hell. RULax, MBB ugh

We were never supposed to win this match today. It went pretty much as expected.

I just got back. Most of the people that post were actually at the RAC, which is why a home Match Thread is slower and less posts than an away match.

Probably about 4500-5000 in attendance. In the house were Eric LeGrand, Scott Delvecchio, Kevin Malast (RU FB but NJ HS wrestlers as well), Jamal Westerman RU football.. Also Bergen C AJ Ferrari again was there.

I still wonder if Suriano would be better off going back to 125 next year, if possible. Maybe Lipari can go 133 and both guys than would be bigger and stronger than their opponents. Right now that advantage is not there. Maybe Firestone at 141, MVB at 149, Glasgow at 157 and so on.

Fun day, with the exception of Suriano just missing a big win again. The Ref stopped the action a few times for 'dangerous position' when Nick S was on getting closer to a Takedown. Many in the seats very upset with the officiating once again with a Suriano match.

Yup it went pretty much as expected. RAC was pretty dead today although a lot of us showed up, there just wasn't much to cheer for. It was a quiet send off for our seniors. We really need to start closing the gap someway. somehow. I just don't see crowds like this being sustainable with beatdowns like this.

Stephan Glasgow was on the concourse during intermission taking some pictures. He said that he will be wrestling next in the B1G tournament.

Good to hear. I sit right near the RU bench, so I saw him in his street clothes. as well as Gravina, missing those 2 healthy really was a set back for the team. But it's all about March. Hope Glasgow and Gravina are healthy enough and not too rusty, to be a factor at the Big10s. Allocations will be interesting .

Suriano could have won the matches he lost this year.

He had Dayton Fix on the ropes (riding time was almost assured in SV)
Gave up a late takedown to Desanto
Was aggressor in Miccic match and I thought he controlled the match

Not sure why people are giving up already on him.
It is NEVER easy to win a Championship.

I was really pleased to see Suriano be the aggressor and get in on a bunch of shots. Micic was looking to defend and nothing else for most of the match. Is running the pipe not possible in college anymore? Take a few back steps and sit the guy on his butt to get the TD, instead of trying to lift and trip. The 2 potentially dangerous calls were questionable at best from my seats. These are college wrestlers and they let a lot more funky/straining situations go. Oh well. Suriano can beat anyone if he attacks like he did today and finishes some of those shots.

As for the rest of the matches, they pretty much went as expected. We need some good runs in March.

I know we weren’t supposed to win this one. This was to be taken as we haven’t measured to expectations in other sports and this year we really haven’t had any wrestler surprise us. AA and NS were supposed to contend but no upsets by anyone else. Grello, Glasgow and Correnti could have had such a different year. SG has other problems but go out swinging at least. It’s just disappointing week after week to lose by one point.

Par for the course for being a Rutgers fan. Rule 1: Be ready for disappointment!

Agreed. However, Nick has to be more aggressive. Passive loses.
Thought Suriano was more aggressive today. Tough when matches come down to a point. He's as talented any 133 and can certainly win a title, but looks like a challenge. Ashnault looked very good again and I think will be RU'S first NCAA champion.

That was not a passive loss. He was the aggressor in this match. Miccic was in defense mode the entire match except the one takedown. In fact until that takedown his only shot was a weak snap down attempt.

NJ is a wrestling state.. Crowds will show up to see us in matches vs top teams win or lose... While we may have lost big on scoreboard... There were a lot of competitive matches!!

NS surely gets screwed with questionable refs ..the Fix match fiasco , he gets two quick stalls previously against Desanto yet the todays kid does nothing but fight of Nicks shots and only stall was with 8 seconds left ...not to mention the danger calls made at most inopportune times ....
