About the 4/5 spots: My hope is that by January Lathan will have the confidence and game experience that he (and Pike) will recognize situations in which he can take his defender consistently. He seems to have a high enough IQ to use this to open up the perimeter.Dylan is phenomenal. A first step much quicker than I expected. He got to the rim at will. He will lead the Big10 in assists. First team all Big 10? All American? It will be interesting to see if Pitino can press Dylan in the exhibition. I’m thinking not.
Ace is an inside force and will probably be a good defender and rebounder. His outside shot is a bit too flat for him to be a great shooter. I predict he’ll be 30% or less from 3.
Add Jeremiah and we have 3 guys who can get to the rim and finish. JMike is highly aggressive and can get to the rim despite his size. I think he was 5 for 6 from the line so maybe his shot is better? He plays awfully hard so will get good minutes.
PJ is a very good shooter with a quick release and is more athletic than anticipated. Wish he was taller so he could play the 4. He will get minutes.
Somerville is going to be a good college player. Excellent footwork. Is he big enough to be our 5 this year?
I would have loved to see Acuff because for me the jury is out on the rest of the team.
I’m not so confident we have what we need at the 4 and 5.
D. HARPER is way better going to his right. Ball handing on drives up the middle needs work. His kick out passes are serviceable just my observations.
Your dont know what the hell you are looking at. Just my observation.D. HARPER is way better going to his right. Ball handing on drives up the middle needs work. His kick out passes are serviceable just my observations.
Really? I don't agree with that at all.D. HARPER is way better going to his right. Ball handing on drives up the middle needs work. His kick out passes are serviceable just my observations.
Anyone messes with Dylan or Ace, I know who will set a pick or screen.Ogbole needs to hit the gym.
Ball looks like a lacrosse ball in his hands. Or maybe he just crushed it and deflated it.Anyone messes with Dylan or Ace, I know who will set a pick or screen.

There was no ribbon board with stats so it's based upon what people remember. Dylan and Ace both hit 3's to start the game when facing off against each other. After that I think Dylan had another one. I don't remember Ace hitting any afterwards. I do remember a few misses as well and Dylan chucked a bad airball as well. So I would say average. What were Ace and Dylan from 3?
Not great. Ace will not be an effective 3 point shooter. His shot is much too flat although it has good rotation. Dylan might be average, not sure. PJ is a legit shooter and has a quick release. The scrimmage was only 24 minutes so shouldn’t draw too many conclusions but I’m sure about Ace not being a 3 point answer. What were Ace and Dylan from 3?

Based on a whole 24 minutes of action my hope is that Lathan and Ace can rebound with the big 10 big guys which would allow for PJ - or maybe it’s Acuff - to get minutes as our 3 point shooter. Lathan has potential to have a really nice offensive game.About the 4/5 spots: My hope is that by January Lathan will have the confidence and game experience that he (and Pike) will recognize situations in which he can take his defender consistently. Don't get your hopes up. Less that a 0% chance Ace or Dylan are back. NBA drafts mostly on future potential. Sit back and enjoy these guys this year. We won't see this talent again. If Ace is in the 25%~30% in terms of 3 point shooting then he better come back next year because the NBA is all about 3 point shooting.

It was 1 pm in the afternoon. How come they don’t call it midnight madness anymore ??? I’ve noticed that’s now an outdated term across college basketball for last many years
This is very encouraging. It’s apparent that our offense will run through Dylan, and our opponents will gameplan to stop him. But Ogbole will be like a fly in that ointment.3) People said Ogbole missed some at the rim shots (the clip showed just 1 miss, when Sommerville and another defender trapped him as he at the rim). But I also saw 2 or 3 MADE shots, on excellent passes (one form Harper, maybe one from Bailey) - 1 or 2 dunks, and 1 when he pumped, gathered himself and laid it in (not dunk) - last season that was a guaranteed travel for him. Almost as importantly, look at the video clip again: Notice his screens! He sets terrific high screens at the top of the 3-point line ... you are going to see a LOT of that for Harper and Bailey.
Good to hear there were positives from Ogbole. He can really set some absolutely massive screens which will go underappreciatedHave watched that clip several times, and some obvious takeaways - none of which, or few of which matter at this stage (fun, but practice just started, have 5 weeks more practice at 20 hours per week+, plus a scrimmage with St. Johns, to improve).
Still:
1) As all have said, Harper was simply dominant, in every way. No one could keep him from getting into the lane, or getting to the rim (2 different things) and he made a number of terrific passes (to Ace, to Hayes, to Williams and to Ogbole) . RU's best on-ball defender, Davis, could not stop Harper either on screens, OR just 1 on 1 - 3 times in that short clip Harper just got Davis on his hip/back and it was game over on the drive. So ... while maybe not quite as outright fast, on both the set offense, and especially in transition, reminded me of Terrence Shannon - once Shannon had a head of steam in transition, or turned a corner in the set offense, he got to wherever he wanted (at the rim or elsewhere). Still, stylistically, if I had to compare, he looks a LOT like Jalen Brunson (not saying he is that good, or not yet, but ...). Both lefties, both deceptively athletic (as opposed to obviously quick or leapers), both use their body control, use of ball handling, craftiness to get open at all 3 scoring levels (long range, mid-range, post up, to the rim). Harper is 6'6" to 6'7" to Brunson's 6'2" ... and it did take Brunson a couple of years toi explode (by his sophomore year) - but he also had stars ahead of him as a freshman: Hart, K. Jenkins, Arciadocono ... if Brunson was the forced leader, he played well enough as a true frosh to have BEEN the star, with more minutes.
2) Bailey is going to be great also - BUT ... he did force some shots. Still, he made several good defensive plays and made a number of very good passes, even in that very short snippet. And several times he finished with a score in traffic near the basket (a good thing - that he can finish through contact in traffic). Last season we had nobody who could really finish (or would) through contact in traffic. Now, we have both Harper and Bailey who can do that, at the least. Though we knew this from prior clips, se showed a terrific step back mid-range shot when contested.

I am not a gambler but if I was I would take your bet on Ace’s 3 point percentage. He has good rotation on the ball, that’s a plus, but his shot is relatively flat. Very happy we got him but he’s not perfect.#1 - he will shoot better than 30%. I will put money on it. It's tough to find credible HS statistics online, but I remember reading somewhere that he was shooting over 40% his senior year. People basing his shooting capabilities off a 24 minute scrimmage is wild.
#2 - even if he doesn't, he's not coming back. This is just crazy talk
Take it from someone and saw the entire 24 minutes of scrimmage: Ogbole missed or fumbled a number of shots at the rim, basically stuffs that he’s going to need to make for us. It wasn’t just one.Have watched that clip several times, and some obvious takeaways - none of which, or few of which matter at this stage (fun, but practice just started, have 5 weeks more practice at 20 hours per week+, plus a scrimmage with St. Johns, to improve).

I had only seen the shorter summary 6 minute clip, I think, when I posted this.Take it from someone and saw the entire 24 minutes of scrimmage: Ogbole missed or fumbled a number of shots at the rim, basically stuffs that he’s going to need to make for us. It wasn’t just one.
I believe he was fouled on 1 of his dunk attempts and as a result made 1 of 2 at the FT line, where he appears to have a pretty smooth stroke.I had only seen the shorter summary 6 minute clip, I think, when I posted this.
See my much more comprehensive post in its own thread.
He did miss 4 at the rim shots, all in the 1st "half", 2 of which were blocked/poked at while he was shooting. But he also made his last 2 shots, and 2 of his made shots involved him patiently pausing, and adjusting to his position that last season was almost invariably a travel by him - and Saturday were NOT travels. I therefore make the presumption based on the extremely limited video that his footwork is better.
I also noticed that though he fumbled a little on 2, maybe 3 shots, he had no trouble catching the ball, nor was it poked away for a turnover once ... also improvement versus last season, implying his hands might be improved. Again, based just on a very limited sample size of a very short intra-team scrimmage.
Admittedly, just my take.
