Men’s Lacrosse Began Big Ten Play at No. 11 Johns Hopkins Saturday

Rutgers is currently ranked #25 in the first week of the RPI, while Hopkins is #11 (while also being #11 in both the media and coaches polls). By the RPI, four of Rutgers’ five losses are to top-20 programs, with losses to No. 1 (Princeton), No. 9 (Army), No. 11 (UMass) and No. 19 (St. Joe's).

Rutgers' scoring defense is 12th nationally at 8.44 goals per game allowed. The Scarlet Knights started the season by holding each of its first five opponents to single-digit goals, the team's longest streak since 2010. RU then allowed 11 goals in each of the next four games and have not yet surrendered more than 11 goals in a game.

On the flip side, Rutgers offense has produced just 86 goals across nine games, an average of 9.5 per game, which includes outputs in its midweek games of 17 vs. LIU and 21 vs. St. John's. RU has 38 goals in its seven weekend contests (5.4 goals per game).

Hopkins averages 11.38 goals per game on offense while giving up 10.12 gpg on defense.

One area where we won’t have the edge we’ve had most of the year is at FO. Matthew Paolatto for Rutgers has won 64.6% of his faceoffs, a mark that is best in the Big Ten and sixth nationally. However, Logan Callahan for Hopkins has won 61.2% of faceoffs (11th nationally) and is eighth in the country with 7.5 ground balls per game. So the FO battle could end up being a draw (although we know how much FOs are matchup based, so who really knows).

Weather in Baltimore:

This Afternoon
Scattered showers before 2pm. Cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high near 66. West wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Don’t love the wind forecast.

Our offense looks lost. Just a lot of passing around the perimeter 30-40 yards from the net. Have had 3 long possessions and only one decent look.

I’m spending way too much time screaming at the tv for someone to take the shot.

Melendez replacement might be better and their goalies are very similar. Bright are great.

We reallllly need some inside presence. Everything we do is outside. It’s why our shooting percentage is so low. We get nothing inside and it makes sliding and playing help D so easy.

Carc may be an ACC homer, but his analysis of RU's offensive woes was spot on. Especially on Kurdyla belonging at midfield and missing Scott.

Yeah somebody tell me why Kurdyla is at attack and Colin Kelly is at midfield.

I don’t hear him say that about Kurdyla but he’s spot on about settled O.

No player movement and the ball continually gets stuck.

Kurdyla is the most dynamic player Kelly can shoot and carry a little but he needs to two dodgers to be effective.

Colin is just our most dynamic player. Brecht wants him on the field as much as possible.

Even though he’s a natural middie we just need him out there.

Ugh, get a little mo then foul. Their EmO is very good. Our man down is not good. We can’t foul them. Huge key

3 is the one guy I really believe you can move to attack of you want to jump Kurdyla up to middle. He’s got a lot of potential

I believe we’ve scored all 4 of our goals when Sommer is on the field. Or maybe 3 of 4. Regardless, that unit is playing well. Think it’s Sommer, Kelly, and Zeller.
