Men’s soccer

Our State University should be winning on a consistent basis in various sports. If we could just get the Governor,BOG and new President to be enthusiastic in words and actions on a long term basis.

Only about 16 months until The Rodkin Center Opens. I assume the four soccer and lacrosse coaches are making sure every recruit knows they will get to use a great new facility should they choose RU.

There’s a long way to go in the season but NCAA soccer is all about having the right shape and this team definitely has the correct formation out on the pitch. It also helps that RU was able to get the GK from Israel who is talented enough to play in our second division USL Championship...one step below MLS...should be a fun successful season...his save late in the match last night was World Class!

Football is what matters.
Okay, then who would you hire to replace Hobbs? And dont give some BS answer like, "It's not my call." I want a reasonable answer for who you want as AD. Firing someone is only half the battle. It means nothing if you replace him with someone worse.

I personally don't think Hobbs should be fired, but to answer your question, the AD's at Cincy and Temple seem to just plug and play with head football coaches at their respective institutions; can't comment on their olympic sports though.

Hobbs didn’t hire Flood, who got us into this mess, he was simply put in a horrible position and didn’t make the right call. He’s made all the right coaching moves since and has been spectacular on the fundraising front. He gets a pass on Ash like it or not.

Hate to cloud up this thread, but Hobbs doesn’t just get heat for messing up the hire , it’s also because he still doesn’t feel comfortable dealing with the football program. He just isn’t involved at the level that is needed.
He knows he’s not a football guy so he stays away

In the P5, the Olympic sports do matter, and I'm willing to bet neither one of those schools excels in that department. Hell Temple just cut baseball/softball.

I also support Hobbs. Ash certainly appears to be a bad hire but when you have a less than stellar history in the sport you started and tight money, your choices are not all that good.
The surge of pretty much every minor sport is very impressive. Good coaches make a huge difference.
Football has a ton of moving parts and it does take time to build a winning program. Schiano's early teams struggled too.
It may take us a long time to become a decent program again even with the right guy at the helm. The BIG is a brutal schedule and, truthfully, I can only see us become middle of the road team at best. The top programs are just too tough to crack.

Please, elaborate for us!

Don’t tell that to the football-only meatheads

I have been telling them for years.

The things that make great sports schools great is they win in many things. It makes for a better rounded university.

I have posted this before but I remember when USC first fielded a women's lax program.

People questioned their ability to recruit and whatever else. The AD's response was simple. To paraphrase he said, "we will fund and support the program with whatever it needs to compete for national championships". They made the tourney their 3rd year as a program and have made it to the quarters the last two years. Funny what happens when you fund a program properly and hire a great staff.

And that's just not women's lacrosse. It is pervasive across all sports. Michigan, Stanford, there are others. They expect to win in everything they do. It's what makes them great.

But the dipshits on the football board want to fire Hobbs. Bunch of clowns over there, the whole lot of them.
Fact is he made a horrible hire, then doubled down on that horrible hire. In the process losing 30% of season ticket sales or 6,254 in one season. And down almost 12,000 since Ash took over. We don't sell half that many season tickets for all Olympic Sports combined.

He locked a 1st time ever head coach into a 7 yr. guaranteed contract(it was basically guaranteed because were we bound to get something and he extended it for a slap on the wrist). And put no buy out clause in said contract.(Locksley at Maryland if fired for no cause gets 65% of his remaining salary). So yea, he deserves a ton of backlash for those numbnut decisions.

Football used to be a revenue generator. Now it's hemorrhaging money which becomes a drain on other sports. Hobbs has to fix this immediately, it's turning into a very expensive lesson for him, on RU's dime. Do I want him fired no. Do I have confidence in him to make the next hire no. His sole lifetime experience in football is Chris Ash. Olympic sports matter, but football is supposed to help pay their revenue losses.

Again, who do you hire for AD then? And I want a reasonable answer.

You already heard the answer you just don't want to hear it. One was Temple's AD who was in the B1G at one point in his career so he knows the importance of all sports across the board. Another is the Cincinnati AD. They're tough with limited budget in several sports. Another is Sean Frazier the AD at N. Illinois. You know the finalist here who was railroaded by Kate Sweeney for Mrs. Foot in Mouth.

Do they have experience greasing Trenton politicians? How many new facilities have Temple's AD gotten built? Are ANY of Temple's Olympic sports good? Ditto for Cincy.
