The Haskins Award goes to the Top College golfer. Chris Gotterup won it while at Oklahoma in 2022. It was the 2nd year in a row a NJ golfer won as Jon Pak won in '21 playing for Florida State. Other winners include Phil Mickelson (3 times), Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Cantlay, Ludvig Aberg, and Sahith Theegala.

With #1 Texas, #9 UNC, #13 Illinois, and #19 Arizona heading the field along with #28 Texas Tech, Rutgers faces it's toughest field of '24-'25 to date. Texas, UNC, and Illini also participated last year. Other teams include #54 Coll of Charleston, #64 Furman, and #69 Kennesaw St. At #127 the Knights comes in 12th of 13 with #191 Navy 13th. 2010 and 2011 NCAA Champ, Augusta, is host.

The teams will play the renovated, Donald Ross design, 7088yd Par 72 Forest Hills GC in Augusta. The course had received major damage from Hurricane Helene last Fall requiring the removal of 1,100 trees.

2 Perks playing in this event.....

- Every team gets free tickets to the Masters Monday practice round.

- The individual winner gets a spot in 1 PGA Tour full field event.

A few weeks ago, a similar tourney in Fla also gave all participants free admittance, that time to the Players Monday practice. Texas Junior Luke Potter, who had won the individual title the day before and will be playing for the Longhorns this week, was kicked off the course. He was following Rory McIlroy while filming himself heckling Rory as they went. Rory finally had enough, responding by confronting Potter, grabbing Potter's phone, and walking away with it. Potter did get the phone back as he was being escorted off the property.

Lineups have not been posted. Sr Capt Weston Jones, Grad Noah Kumar, and the Frosh duo of Argyle Downs and Bennett Espenshade are a close to a lock to start. The 5th spot along with a possible entrant as an individual would likely come from those who have also competed this year in Sophs Derek Gutierrez, Andrew Reyes, and/or Frosh Max Jackson.

There are a number of the best college golfers expected to compete......

#1 David Ford (UNC)
#2 Daniel Bennett (Texas)
#4 Christiaan Maas (Texas)
#10 Tommy Morrison (Texas)
#17 Kieron Van Wyk (Charleston)*
#23 Jackson Buchanan (Illinois)

* Won the Individual Title in most recent tourney Rutgers competed in.

Ford will be going for his 4th '24-25 win, Van Wyk his 3rd.

According to 1 site RU will go with the 4 I mentioned (Jones, Kumar, Espenshade, Downes) and Derek Gutierrez with no one entered as an individual.

EDIT:

Also for some reason I can't explain there were 2 teams not listed until this evening on the NCAA Scorer Site. I didn't notice till I just stumbled across it on the site I found Rutgers lineup. There are now 15 teams with the addition of #5 Oklahoma State and #39 Notre Dame. For the moment both sites line up but stay tuned lol.

The battle for the Individual Title also just got tougher with the addition of 1 more Top 10 player from Okie State and 2 Top 25 1 from each from OSU and ND.

#7 Ethan Fang (OSU)
#19 Preston Stout (OSU)
#21 Jacob Modleski (ND)

Next up is the Princeton Invitational this coming weekend at the Springdale GC. This was not on the original schedule. Back about 2 months ago, Head Coach Rob Shutte said that the tourney in October that was cancelled due Hurricane damage was to be made up by adding a tourney in the Spring. This is it. Besides #72 Princeton, others in the 14 team field include Yale, Harvard, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Columbia, Temple, and Penn. After that it's the B1G Championship at the Baltimore CC in Md the 25th-27th.

UPDATE: Chaos at Augusta National. Crowds turned away this morning as severe weather forcast has caused the cancellation of today's practice round so the team misses out.
