Mets get Ces !!! 3 yr 75 million. 27.5 1st year with an opt out

Much needed. Had to pony up the AAV in order to keep the deal short.

Hopefully you guys get the August - September Cespedes & not the jackass ran out of every town he ever played in including Havana...somewhere Fidel is smiling.
:uzi:

going to sleep very happily tonight...

whatta lineup notwithstanding the pitching staff:

and how great it is to see players want to STAY with the mets:

- Cespy
- Zack Wheeler (calling alderson telling him he wants to stay)
- Flores (crying when he thought he got traded)

Great day to be a Mets fan. Average projected runs per game just probably rose by a third to a half and with the great young pitching staff, we should be favored to repeat. The Wilpons did a really good job here allowing Sandy to make this happen imho.

I have been killing them but props to Alderson for getting this done.

Let's be honest, the only reason Yo is a Met right now is because he wanted to stay in New York. I'm beyond thrilled that a deal got done but it took the threat of a division rival for management to finally pony up.

I agree about the Wilpons but I will give some to Alderson. Also agree that the Nats interest spurred the Mets to see if they could get something done since the fan backlash would have been substantial if he went there without the Mets making some effort to keep him.

Wilpons and Alderson played this one right. There is no chance the deal gets done under these terms two months ago, or even two weeks ago. They correctly evaluated the market and waited Cespedes out.

Cuddyer ultimately made this feasible for the Mets......Walker for Murphy is a wash....If D'Arnaud and Comforto uptick to another level and play 120+ games, Mets will be very tough all year long.....

Cespedes numbers for 2016......

Batting Average 266....
Home Runs 31....
RBI 90+.....
85+ Runs scored
10-15 Stolen Bases.

7-10 defensive lapses will be allowed as part of this signing, but worth the signing.

LOL, it's easy to see who the Stankees fans are. The worm has turned, and the Stankees have given up their dominance of the NYC baseball market for the foreseeable future. I remember the days when the Mets were drawing 3 mil a season and Stankee Stadium was a ghost town.

Are you kidding? The 2016 Yankees roster would probably rank in the top 5 in Mets history. I'm a Mets fan, but jeez, stay humble. We have a good team until the clock strikes midnight and the pitchers go to arbitration. Meanwhile the Yankees will never miss a beat other than the occasional anomaly like last year, where even then, they still made the playoffs.

With a full year of Yoenis, Conforto, d'Arnaud, Matz, Noah, a half year of Wheeler, and a bench that includes Wilmer, Lagares and a fortified bullpen, they are a 100 win team (or close to it).

Of course it's not a bad thing, but if he wanted to be in New York so badly a deal would have gotten done without any drama. I also refuse to give the Wilpons credit for anything.
The only reason there was "drama" is because he was getting offers well above what the Wilpons were willing to pay. Gotta love NY a lot to leave $60 million on the table.

Great job by Alderson, judged the market perfectly.
I'm a Yankees fan so take this for what it's worth, but you guys need a bullpen arm or two to bridge the gap to Familia. You also need to see if Familia can rebound from the 3 blown saves in the WS.

If you get another arm in the bullpen, you will be scary good. Just need to keep all the starters healthy.

So your criticizing them because you didn't think they would sign him, but they did?

Walker for Murphy us an upgrade. Roughly the same hitting, walker much better fielder. Glad mets management didn't get blinded by a one week off the charts streak.

They signed Bastardo and Familia got screwed by poor defense. One earned run allowed in the WS.

You know I decided to check out this thread to see what Mets fans thought about the signing and instead I get reminded of what a condescending ass sounds like. Not all Yankees fans hate the Mets you know.

Really? I am a met fan but I can't agree with this statement. Have you seen the back of the Yankee bullpen? They are back to the days where they need only play a 6 inning game and then it is shut down city.

They signed Blevins too. Hopefully he can get back to where he was at the beginning of last season.

Anyone who thinks the Mets who should have considered bringing Ces back in the 5-6 year $120M-$150M range is out of their mind. Cannot blame the Mets one bit there. But kudos to Alderson for gauging the market and staying in discussions with him all along. Essentially this is a one year deal, and I'm OK with that. Can't wait for spring training!

One other wrinkle in the deal. If YC opts out Mets can make qualifying offer and will get draft pick if he turns down. This year they would have gotten zip. Both sides are covered fairly well in this deal.
