Anyone see the bigger dude wearing the "MIC-MAN" Jersey? Walking around the front of student section and helping get chants started. I think it worked well. You could hear him on tv a bit as well. I wonder if he is a student. Thoughts?
Sounds bush league to me. Back in the day (Graber years) we didn't need the PA guy to tell us when or how to do the R-U chant. Kinda embarrassing that this is necessary. I learned all I needed to know (including the fight song) from fellow students.
back in the day.. there were 14,000 people in the stands.........
Yeah, well, PSU used a mic man in front of their student section in the early 90's, and it worked perfectly. I think you might just be naive.Sounds bush league to me. The Penn State guy was a cheerleader. The shame of it is that he's doing what "cheer" leaders are supposed to do.
The leader can slow down the students response.
that is critical to a good RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
...................................UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
cheer. Without a person to set the pace the students respond too quickly and it first becomes
a UUUUUUUU...RRR cheer, and then becomes an overlapping mess.
It can be even better if they slow it down further.

Mic'd up cheerleaders are used throughout college football. IN stadiums and with fan support much larger and more established than RU's. USC, Tennessee, A&M,Texas, LSU, UGA all have some version of a mic'd up cheer leader. I have no issue with it as long as they lose the countdown to the cheer. NO need to say in 1-2-3 RRRRRRRRRRRR. Just say RRRRRRRRRRR and the crowd will follow.
During the game it's not over the PA. There are four speakers on the field wall which face back towards the student section. It was just so empty and quiet, you could hear it in nearby sections.
It's exactly what we need and he can even improve it even more. I've been saying for years that we need a "Fireman Ed" presence that has control over the students to get it right. If he took the approach of "wait for my signal", he could get a really long, quiet pause out of them.
