“It’s definitely essential to our game plan to run the ball,” Denman said. “If that doesn’t show up, then I guess certain things don’t go well for us in the end.”

Third-and-longs are a chance for pass-rushers to slip into attack mode.

“The best way to eliminate the pass rush is to execute our assignment on offense and get them out of those situations where they can be in their third-down package,” Lumpkin said.

“If you run the ball and just even (complete) short-yardage passes — keep it manageable for the down and distance —– everything should be fine.”

This game was my UPSET game before the season but before all the off field distractions. I think we can still come out with a win

I give you a ton of credit for coming back to this board and posting with class.

I understand this is how you legitimately see the situation. I am not sure however how many teams of any type can replace half or more of the defensive back field 2-deep, in addition to their best offensive and defensive weapons, without missing a beat. I think most teams would take a major hit in this situation.

You can blame the coach for the defensive situation, and you are at least partially right. I don't see it as something we can expect regularly under his watch, and I assume you do.

I see our depth as increasing rapidly under his tutelage, and you don't. If he hadn't built some db depth, for instance; we would be in a worse situation than we were in 2013. Most of the evaluations of the guys we have left that I see say they are already playing at a decent level. Doing that in just 3 weeks of playing together is a major feat IMO.

Again, the inhering difference is you see "depth increasing rapidly." and I agree, but what I DON'T see is "quality" in that depth, in many position groups, sorry. OL? Not impressed. LB? Yikes. Serious quality depth issues here. DB? We'll see, way too early to tell, but not seeing any lock-down types - as we were told about by all the self-proclaimed "experts" there would be - in the future. QB? No clue. RB? Great depth there no question but, like last year, let's see what happens against the better D's we face this year before making outrageous claims, as one poster did, that we have one of the best "RB groups in the nation...." TE and WR? Eh, not really sold just yet with either group, to be honest. Yes, we've got some guys who can catch the ball, when wide open, but are they making great plays on their own? DL? Maybe not nearly as deep as many - myself included - expected.

Bottom line: we'll know the level of "quality," this "depth" is, over the next season or two. If the "W's" come, that's a good sign, if they don't, there you have it, agree?

Thanks, btw, but I'm not really sure why I wouldn't post with "class" LOL! I mean I was always argumentetive, especially when backing my opinions/points with fact, but when people started challenging me and attacking me, left and right, many doing so just because I "switched sides" - on top of a relatively new group of posters attempting to throw BS down our throats, about recruiting - well, I guess things just got the best of me - as they did of MANY on both sides. Anyway, my apologies for any hard feelings in the past, ag67!

if this is the gameplan we are going to get killed. Why the hell would you not be aggressive at home against a banged up team. Throw some deep balls and pick up 20+ yard plays against their banged up secondary. We're going to plan for 3rd and 8 on every possession so laviano can throw a 4 yard pass. Brilliant.
