thats next level stuff. The bubble bursting of football recruiting can't be too far off after seeing that.

The point is that Michigan alums, fans, etc. have tremendous pride and, by and large, love the school. I see it all the time, all over the country. So, of course they're going to say something like that. I'm sure many Ohio State people feel the same way about their school. Calling your school the "best" is essentially just a way of saying you love the place and rallying the like-minded. It certainly beats self-loathing and negativity.

Yesterday UM set itself up for massive failure and mockery. I hope those state traitors are ready for it.

Harbaugh will be back in the NFL before you know it. Money talks and he's out.

Seriously, that is what a lot of Rutgers alums and fans, along with New Jersey residents in general, do best. If we didn't carry around an air of insecurity with us spending our lives being sandwiched between NYC and Philly you probably wouldn't be able to quickly identify a New Jersey native in a crowd. LOL!!

The thing raised money for charity. Lloyd's Carr's 5 year old grandson died a couple months ago of a brain tumor. They raised 110K in a 2 hr show. Jesus, this place is pretty dark and petty sometimes.

It's great they raised so much money for charity. And of course they were going to raise money for charity...you weren't going to get all of those celebs to a football signing day without paying them a ton otherwise. But they didn't do it to raise money, it was a fortunate secondary benefit of putting on an event to try and stand out, just like everything else with Harbaugh and recruiting.

when will ALL RU fan's stand up for our school in a similar manner--just look at many of the negative posts on here--some of us have inferiority complexes or just love to bitch to our detriment

With that stunt Harbaugh pulled off, expect other schools to outdo one another to make their NSD the best. Think dancers, more celebs, musical acts, bussing in hundreds of people, etc. I would expect the NCAA to put a kibosh on this quickly before NSD really gets out of control.

Michigan is making a joke out of themselves. Crazy Jim is creating a cult and that is going to backfire. No one gives 2 shits about Michigan except their own self-adoring assholes.

Really, because to me it seems like quite a few athletes care about Michigan.

Not to mention the number of top 2017 guys they're in on already. Mccaffrey is expected to commit to Michigan in the coming months.

Harbaugh and Flair and signing day are SNL material.
Wasn't Mick Foley at the basketball game yesterday with the football coaches?

RU already WAS SNL material (Mike Rice) and Jeopardy material (3rd down spike).

I have always thought we could do a better job of courting our local entertainer talent to connect with Rutgers. We had Gandolfini while he was alive. Bon Jovi loves football. Wonder if anybody ever reached out to him to see if he would help support the program in some way, and I am not talking $$$.

Why did all the haters watch this program. Amazing!

I'm not so sure about that - like it or not - Flair played football in the (edit: at Minnesota, trying to figure this one out now lol...), is one of the greatest entertainers of the last 40 years, AND they raised over $100K in 2 hours for charity? Not the worst thing in the world IMHO.

There is a massive difference between being proud of your school and having Ric Flair and Lou Holtz on stage "dabbing" in celebration of high school students signing letters to play a sport. That is Jonhnnie Be Good stuff.

As someone who is indifferent to Michigan, it's a real bad look. But some school will do something more stupid next year. Hell, it could very well be UM themselves.

sorry but this is so haters gonna hate.

Michigan is trying to win a national championship, they will do whatever it takes to do that.

We are just trying to not suck anymore.

The NCAA should institute recruiting changes going forward such as "Early signing Period" (Basketball) but they probably won't.

However, we benefited this year when Michigan withdrew a ship from Rashad Weaver (DE) from Cooper City, Fla. and he signed with Pitt.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Not even close. Flair played football at Michigan, is one of the greatest entertainers of the last 40 years, AND they raised over $100K in 2 hours for charity? We should be so lucky.

$100k with a ton of multi millionaires on stage? I'd like to see the expenses on that.

Didn't Flair play at Minnesota?

You're right, he did, my bad. Wonder why the connection with Michigan he literally said on stage "when I got my offer from Michigan" and talked about his recruiting experience in Ann Arbor, et al, so I wonder what happened?

it was for show. It is just an act.

Personally, I thought the entire spectacle was in very poor taste.

We're talking about high school kids agreeing to come play football for your school for pete's sake. You would have thought one of their professors just found a cure for cancer or something given all the fan fare.

And as far as Michigan alum having pride in their school? Well, duh, every sports team they field wins 90% of their games practically every year. It's not too tough, and you don't have to be a die-hard fan, to be "proud" of that.

I got the story right now:

Flair originally signed a LOI with Michigan after spending a week in Ann Arbor. Dan Dierdorf was his "host" and (apparently) blames himself or Flair becoming a Gopher instead LOL!

** methinks Flair, in true Flair-style, may have lost his scholarship during that week in Ann Arbor! :cool2:

Dierdorf would not sleep over or climb a tree with his shirt off for Flair.

Can you imagine if Springsteen,Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes did a benefit concert at the new Meadowlands Stadium for Rutgers Athletics. Not only would it raise a bunch of money, but think of all the media attention.

Sorry, but you're wrong.

What does this nonsense have to do with winning an NC? Maybe win that NC - or at least make yourself relevant on the national scene - before doing something ridiculous like that.

Michigan deserves all the mockery it's getting and then some.

I thought it was over the top. I also don't like the elevation of HS football players to such esteemed status so early in their lives, primarily thanks to ESPN. No wonder a lot of them get in trouble in college, they've been entitled and treated differently than everyone else since 8th grade. Geez, it's a transition from HS football to college football, not some earth shattering event.

They wanted to big a big hoopla so that the 2017 class would get excited about signing there just t be a part of that show.

Now whenever or not it will work or blow up in their faces, remains to be seen.

I feel like the 2017 class should be excited because they're signing up to play football at Michigan, not because they got to meet Ric Flair.

That whole scene is absolute douche chills.

Money and ESPN are ruining college football. The "best university in the world?" The Ivy League is laughing.

Forget the ivies.

Johns Hopkins is number one in research spending. Michigan is second. Michigan educates a lot more people than does any single ivy. There are reasons for the Wolverines to have pride.

And the whole country is laughing. Gonna be interesting to watch his early offers this upcoming year after he cut the legs out of so many early Michigan commits.

Michigan (really Harbaugh) is putting a huge target on its back. No one would have cared very much about the kids who got their offers pulled last minute, because it happens in so many other places, if Harbaugh wasn't playing the role of the goofy uncle with the sleepovers, tree climbing, etc. But doing so and portraying himself as the guy just having fun opened himself up to some in the media going after him for also playing the dirty side of recruiting.

Then you have their former AD saying last night that Gary was offered "incentives" by other schools during his recruitment but he's glad he was able to resist those and grab that highly valued Michigan education. Think there might just be a couple SEC schools who are going to be itching to share some dirt that they've come across as retribution?

The signing day show and spring practice in Florida are just more of the same. The target will get bigger and bigger and the shots at Michigan will keep coming. You have Urban laughing derisively when someone asks him in a press conference if he'd ever climb a try to get a recruit. Next time he's asked maybe he'll respond that his championship rings make it really difficult to grab those limbs.

I just posted this over at BWI, but reading through this thread I'm going to say it again (This is from someone I saw on Twitter, I wish I could find it again to give them credit): There's a reason Ringo needs his All-Starr band and Paul just shows up with a guitar.

There would have to be dirt to share right?
