Seems like Ash prefers Midwestern coaches. Does he have a preference for Midwestern players? What recruiting crumbs can we get from these corn fed fields? Any 4* dudes hiding in the prairies?

There are a few uncommitted 3* and 4* Midwest kids who hold RU offers. The thing we don't know is their interest level and if Ash is interested in them. New staff, new priorities.

There are so many colleges that get Ohio recruits. Not as many as Florida but in the top 5. We need to get 2-5 from Illinois, Michigan, or Ohio.

I hope there is a player from Ohio that Ash wanted that was not high on the Ohio State board.

There may be two who fit that criteria. 4* OL Sean Foster from Illinois who recently decommitted from Minn and 3* DB Tony Butler. Both had RU offers. I don't know if RU has any chance with Foster who may stay in the midwest. Butler was high on RU for a while but not so much now.

I think we should recruit nationally anyway. The core should be NJ, but I'd like to see a roster well represented. Lineman from the Midwest, speed guys from the south, QB's from the west.

Look, if the top NJ players won't come here for whatsoever reason, then we should recruit nationally and get 4 and 5 stars from outside of NJ to come here and win.

+1

With the struggles RU has had in landing the best from New Jersey, it's amazing so many people are hung up on guys with ties to NJ schools. I'm hopeful being in the Big Ten -- with a coach that can actually recruit -- should start landing the best guys in the state. But otherwise, it is definitely time to focus elsewhere. Once RU becomes a good team in the conference, the Jersey guys will start paying attention.

Schiano brought us into Florida. Maybe Ash will have success in the midwest. Doesn't matter where they come from, let's just start building a strong program.

Not nearly enough of them.

Sigh...

I have found that Rutgers as an institution is a lot more attractive to and respected by out-of-staters than it is to to NJ people. This should benefit us when it come to national recruiting, especially with a competent coaching staff.

A lot of the Mid Western teams (Wisconsin, Nebraksa etc) cant recruit enough in their their own states. But they understand football begins and ends with the OL/DL. I was always sorry to see GS get a couple of baby fat laden projects for OL while getting too many WRs and ATHs to know what to do with (like Deering)

A 5 star athlete is welcome no matter where they're from, but keep in mind all recent 5 star athletes that committed to Rutgers were from NJ- Davis, Hamilton and Huggins.

However, there were a few out of state 4 star players (non transfers) that come to mind in the recent past- Coleman, Denman, Ford and Muller. I also think that Laviano was 4 stars on some boards.

But, going back to my first point, RU has to look to NJ for their best players.

Looking at NJ for players is great, but we need honesty out of players and move on when they are not interested. Only so many resources and time to spend on recruiting, move along when wasting your time.

To recruit the country it requires money. As you know we are Rutgers where the administration is cheap just like the fan base and alumni. For example look at what we are paying our head coach. Our recruiting budget will be similar to our last budget with a small increase. Flood was paid 1.6 ish. Ash gets 2 million. We are still Cheap U folks. We are still the worst alumni/ fan base where it counts $$$.

Screw the star system! Just go to Ohio and find one of Cinncinati high school area late rising senior stars. Kid will probably have a chip and won't flame out.

The boys from the "corn fed fields" will kick your a## thats what you need to know.
Hmmmm I don't care where a good athlete is from, although I (as anyone would) want to see local kids stay home. Now, I'm from a small town in central Jersey. I told my friends in the tuba section at Michigan when I was there in grad school, all Rutgers has to do is recruit NJ. Period Whether it happens is another story. A guy who grew up down the street from me was SI D player of the game (Fiesta Bowl), 2 int's in win over USC (Penn State), his brother was AA @ Penn St., 8 years in NFL, coached in NFL as well. Friend of their's from HS was capt. @ Pitt when they were ranked #2, we had a guest steady qb in gym class one day when I was in 6th grade (he was in college) who went on to be runner up in Heisman Trophy voting, later an NFL and Super Bowl MVP (once), his wide receiver in HS went on to be a 4 time all-pro in NFL, the other wr went to Penn St., caught winning TD vs. #1 Texas in Cotton Bowl. A guy from my HS coached w/ Schiano at RU, and is a very successful college head coach today. An outfielder on my softball team was small college AA db, made it to last cut on Eagles. I live 5 miles from Rutgers main campus. Other football players within 5 miles of Rutgers....Dwayne Jarret (wide receiver, USC, maybe still in NFL) Jenkins (db, AA /1st round pick OSU), Anthony Davis (OL RU 1st round pick) If you look up current NJ football players in college football, list is impressive (including Peppers @ UM), top HS player in country this year R. Gary........from NJ
