Mike Dare to Transfer

Good luck Mike!! A trooper and a team guy through it all. Hope you find a good fit for your skills and wish you all success in the future.

Of course but there were still some people here posting that we should back to the pro-set. That ship has 100% sailed.

Anyway good luck to Mike Dare.
That ship sailed the day we hired someone who worked with Meyer at OSU. It's was only here that people clamor for a pro set

The power spread doesn't work for every program. I hope Ash can make it work here but I have my doubts. He gets a reprieve this year but if we are getting shut out by 50+ points next year 2018 will be his last year.

Good luck Mike!! May you find a better fit elsewhere.

Does anything work for everyone?

well, if spread QBs transfer off the roster year from now, then we will need a new reason...I really hope sticking with Merhinger is the right move.

This is good solely from the standpoint that we had way too many QB's on roster, many of whom have 0% chance of seeing the field. Dare frankly never should have been at Rutgers spread or pro set. He was a really good high school player, and should have been on the field contributing somewhere else. Good luck to him. Hope he goes somewhere he can play.

IIRC it was reported from a few sources that he matched Tyler Wiegers throw for throw. Thought he had a chance for us in a pro style offense. Remember an interview with him when he committed and he seemed genuinely excited to be playing for Rutgers. It's a shame to see him go. I wish him a very successful future!!

It will be in Ash's third year we should expect to start seeing positive results.
Expect the blowouts next season

Good luck to Mike, wish him the best

Stay classy, Rutgers fans. The kid bled Rutgers and was all in. He has decided to move on. What's wrong with wishing him well in his future and leaving it at that? Why the need to criticize and piss on him on the way out the door? SMH.

I agree no one should diss him. However, saying "bye bye bro, miss you!" to your computer screen is about as nut balls as it gets on here.

What's so special about RU that a spread wouldn't work?

True but how many pro style teams have you seen win consistently with less talent. How about spread teams. You don't need to answer...,,we all know.

Hope he finds the right system to exploit his talent. This is the only downside when changing schemes; the locker room loses some good players. Best of luck to him.

I don't want to get into a debate or an argument here, and I agree with a lot of what you post. But I can't understand why you would say what you said. From Dunleavy's article this morning:

"Ranked as the No. 12 player and the No. 2 quarterback in the state in the class of 2015 by Rivals.com, Dare's goal still is to "play on the big fields of a Power Five conference" but he will be open to any opportunity.

In the unjust world of college transfers, one problem that Dare might encounter is that he committed to Rutgers entering his junior year at Elmwood Park High School. As such, he had limited contact with other programs as he stayed loyal."

"I'm still going to be a Rutgers fan, I'm still going to support the guys," Dare said. "This is my school that I picked from my heart and my state that I wanted to rep and put on for."

Why should he have never been at Rutgers? One of the things people bitched about here is that we did not get many of the top 10 or 15 players in the State, and here we did that. Understood that he did not play in a tough high school conference/division, but how does one conclude he should have never been at Rutgers?

And one other thing--see the part where he stayed loyal? He shut down his recruiting at the end of his sophomore year--a top ranked player in the state. We like to piss and moan on this board about recruits being disloyal or decommitting. This kid was loyal to RU and bled Scarlet. Now that doesn't mean he gets a trophy or deserved to play, but don't understand the comment above and by others about him.
I love these type of loyal high character kids...wish their were more..

Sometimes it's okay just to read and not post.
sometimes you dont have to be muted by certain persons who attempt to place thier own views upon others with their own agenda. Its also okay to not read a post ,or not comment if it does not fit your agenda.

Agree. I hope that the coaching staff helps him find a new school where he may succeed. He doesn't have many college contacts since he committed so early out of hs. But with his size and arm he should attract a fair amount of interest from a number of schools.

I wish him the best and hope he gets to play and succeed at a high level at his next school.

The spread failed miserably at Michigan when Rodriguez tried to implement it. Will it succeed at Rutgers? We shall see.

Seriously, WTF is wrong with some of you guys?

amazing isn't it? Kid red-shirted as a true frosh with CL, HR, and CR in front of him to handle things then in his 2nd year we go power spread. WTF did anybody expect. Frankly he should have transferred coming into this year and saved himself another year to play.

Thought he exhibited a nice arm with the few passes he threw during the last Spring Practice game. I was surprised. Wish the kid the best and would enjoy seeing him play

Hard to blame him. He loves the school and gave the new coaches a chance. It's hard to leave all the friendships you've made and environment you've wanted to be part of, after 1 year, just because your coach was fired.

yeah I get it. But I would think easier to do that after one then two.

Here is a guy who was scarlet through and through.

Another thread was discussing if current Rutgers QBs were encourged to leave (don't know if true).

Loyalty is a two way street (at least recruits like to think so).

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

So if Dare was you son - what would you encourage him to do?

It is a tough one
- you would know that he still totally believes & embraces the idea that with the right situation, he could lead a team to the national championship....

but at the same time you would be so tempted to say - "think about what you want to do when you are 30, 40, and beyond - be ruthlessly practical - find an academically excellent FCS school with a huge robust alumni network - go there - be a superstar - they will adore you - and you will make incredible connections - & set yourself up for the future."

There's no doubt in my mind that some of these kids are told to leave.

I think Dare had the tools but he needed to be developed. Have a new OC every year and a system change this year doesn't help develop players.

I paid attention to Dare in HS, and have a friend who coaches HS ball who was very familiar with him (coach for a rival school). Dare was a very good HS quarterback. I am no talent evaluator, and don't have that level of knowledge. When I say he was not a P5 level QB prospect, I am going based off things I've heard from the coaches I know and read here and there about him. That information could be wrong, and/or my perception could be misguided. Of course coming out of a school like he did, I think its hard to project college ability. That said, I find an inability to see the field at a position where we were searching for anyone with a pulse to be informative. We were awful at his position, and he was never on the 4 deep.

I absolutely wish him the best wherever he winds up. Hopefully he gets on the field.
