Mike Dare to Transfer

So if Dare was you son - what would you encourage him to do?

It is a tough one
- you would know that he still totally believes & embraces the idea that with the right situation, he could lead a team to the national championship....

but at the same time you would be so tempted to say - "think about what you want to do when you are 30, 40, and beyond - be ruthlessly practical - find an academically excellent FCS school with a huge robust alumni network - go there - be a superstar - they will adore you - and you will make incredible connections - & set yourself up for the future."

If Dare is my son, I ask him straight out if he feels 1) if he truly believes he would start at QB somewhere else 2) if it is that important to him vs a Rutgers degree and staying the course with friends and team mates 3) does he feel he has NFL ability

If his answer to all 3 is a yes, then I do everything possible for him to transfer but even a single no or maybe...stay where you are, get the degree from the school you always dreamed of

That is obvious to adults but every student on every team, more so Football and basketball thinks they have a chance to play in the NFL/NBA, even if the odds are extremely against it.

Most Bama and OSU players never make it to the NFL and those two have more success and put more players into the NFL than near anyone.

I understand your perspective, but you left out "are you unhappy and do you think you will be happier at a different school?"

I am assuming he is not seeing a path to playing time. Given that, and assuming he wants to try to play, there are probably plenty of compelling opportunities.

my gut says he is very happy with Rutgers but not happy that he may never see the field...
