Thrilled he finally got in. Greatest hitting catcher. Griffey with great percentage of vote.
Won't be announced until tomorrow but I would bet my car that he goes in as a Met.I always think of Piazza as a California player. Its funny but I see him as a Met the same way I see as Clemens as a Yankee - not by much. Will MP be going in as a Met?
Piazza stated in his autobiography he wants to go into the HOF as a Met. He played 7 years with the Mets. More than any team including the Dodgers.I always think of Piazza as a California player. Its funny but I see him as a Met the same way I see as Clemens as a Yankee - not by much. Will MP be going in as a Met?
Jeff Bagwell 71%- sorry great player not a HOF'er.
Would love to hear Zappaa's thoughts.
No doubt he goes in as a Met. He did not take being traded by LA well. He hasn't gone back to Dodger Stadium since he retired, despite lots of invites.Won't be announced until tomorrow but I would bet my car that he goes in as a Met.
Wouldn't be surprised if Tommy Lasorda talks to him and to the Dodgers about honoring him with a Mike Piazza day making peace between them and having him go in as a Dodger .No doubt he goes in as a Met. Don't be sour…HOF is a never ending controversy that makes for good dialogue.Yankee fan here, glad Piazza got it. Side note- I'm sour on the baseball HOF. How does Jeff Kent not sniff the HOF but Biggio gets in, Jeff Bagwell 71%- sorry great player not a HOF'er. Piazza not getting in last year.
Would love to hear Zappaa's thoughts.
I know a lot of the voters, a player not getting consideration because he was a bad guy is a myth.Albert Belle had great numbers but no one liked him.
Players don't get to choose anymore after Boggs and Winfield got paid for their choices.Wouldn't be surprised if Tommy Lasorda talks to him and to the Dodgers about honoring him with a Mike Piazza day making peace between them and having him go in as a Dodger .
The percentage went up, but not the number of votes. They removed over 100 voters from last year, people who haven't been baseball writers for 10+ years.I guess this is a good sign for all the steroid users. Looks like the numbers went up for all the big names.

You do realize it is the Hall of Fame that makes this decision, not the player. No doubt he goes in as a Met. He did not take being traded by LA well. He hasn't gone back to Dodger Stadium since he retired, despite lots of invites.
Those are some strange candidates in your proclamationI'm not a big big baseball fan but I do attend 4 or 5 Mets games each year. It's just too expensive to try and do more. I do have an opinion on the HOF. First off let me say congratulations to Mike Piazza. However, until the following players make it into the Baseball Hall of Fame I seriously question the process.
1. Pete Rose
2. Dwight Gooden
3. Rafael Palmeiro
4. Fred McGriff
Will never forget the HR he hit in the first game played after 9/11 to win the game. It has to be in the Top 10 greatest moments in baseball history for a regular season game with all the emotion surrounding that game.
Agreed-Those are some strange candidates in your proclamation
1. Rose broke the rules he knew existed. Then he lied about them. Then he continued to break the rules, lie about it, admit it, etc... He disqualified himself and has no one else to blame.
2. I loved Doc (as a Mets fan) but by 26, he was no longer great. Had a stretch of dominating years, just not enough of them. Do you also put in Fernando, John Tudor, Nomar? How about Dale Murphy (2x MVP)?
3. Massive PED user - completely changed his career.
4. McGriff belongs in the Hall of Very Good. Long, steady career but was he ever considered in the top 2 or 3 1B in his career?

Agree.Agreed-
Don't forget Jack Morris
I loved Trammel and Concepcion
Two guys that if they were around in 40s and early 50s,,,you'd of never heard of Reece and Rizzutto
I'd say yes to Trammel, but I think Morris' 3.90 ERA may be a little high for HOF (great clutch pitcher though). I would put Raines and Belle in. Raines is probably 2nd best leadoff hitter ever and Belle had a shortened but amazing career. He did play 12 years and averaged > 100RBI/year, went over 125 RBI 4 times, and had a career .933 OPS. He was great for a lot longer than Doc, Fernando, Nomar, etc.Agreed-

How can you put him in the same category as the best in the game.Great hitter, especially for a Catcher. Big fan of his and agree he was one of the best hitting Catchers of all time if not THE best. All around he is up there with Yogi, Johnny Bench, Pudge 1 and Pudge 2, Campy and of course Kid Carter.
Pitchers who worked with Piazza had much nicer things to say. “He did a lot of things well behind the plate,” Tom Glavine told NJ Advanced Media in 2014. Glavine added:How can you put him in the same category as the best in the game.
The guy was a terrible catcher. In the American league he would have
been a D.H. Calling him one of the greatest catchers is an insult to Yogi,
Campy and the rest. But I don't blame Met fans, they have to come with
someone.

Must be a Yankee fan. So take that in consideration. How can you put him in the same category as the best in the game.
