Mike Sherman is currently coaching HS

Went 9-4 in 2010 at Texas A&M and the next year fired for going 6-6 before the bowl game. It's not easy being a coach in the big league. That's why I wonder if Penn State will allow Franklin to stay with 6-8 wins a season.

Well he was there 4 years. Manziel was his recruit IIRC. This is only Franklin's 2nd season. I do think though if after some time say by next year or the year after he's not showing any progress then yes I'd say he'd be in danger of getting the boot. I don't think PSU fans would be satisfied with only 6-8 win seasons, especially at 4M a year.

Wow. I run on their practice field on the weekends in the summer. My summer house is right down the street from that High School .

Good article. He's grinding it out there trying to build a program (hence him reaching out to Pop Warner to build a base Talking about a guy who is giving 100% with a mentality for the long term). Tough to do in New England with so many outside influences. He isn't in Texas anymore.

While he is only 60 I can see this as a retirement for him. He will be able to see his family each night and not have to sleep in his office. Julie should inquire if we have an opening but I can see him not wanting to go back to big time college ball. If the Pats call though for a coordinator job I can see him taking that kind of job.

One thing to consider is his Texas A and M contract was through this season so maybe he is coaching HS so that he can still collect on that contract.

Honestly, based on the two resumes who would you rather have as our headcoach? It's crazy that Flood got this job in the first place.

If we lose because we hired a qualified guy, and we're trying to win but that doesn't work out, then ok. To openly hire a guy that is clearly unqualified just to save a class, keep the record in the 6-8 win range, and is cheap because no one else wants him is beyond crazy.

BUT BUT BUT RU cannot afford to hire anyone else and if we do hire anyone they have to have 10 years BCS experience and 8 national titles or they will be inferior to Dear Leader Man of Integrity.

Sherman...Schiano...id take either in a nanosecond!

I'm just sick and tired of coaches being hired that have to learn on the job. At this level it's bullsh*t. Our head coach never a head coach before or even coordinator. O he'll learn from his mistakes give him time. Our offensive coordinator never an offensive coordinator before. O give him a few games he'll learn. Our defensive coordinator never a defensive coordinator at FBS, one year at Maine, former special teams coach. O the defense is just young he needs time to get experience. There is always an excuse for these guys. Truth is they are not ready to be coaches at this level. All I would like is for qualified coaches to be hired. Could careless who it is. If you were to give these resumes to any P5 school AD besides RU they would probably laugh their asses off. Rutgers really needs to stop being the training ground for unproven and unqualified coaches.

Moz, I didn't get an invite to your summer home this year! We rented a house in Orleans. Great time.

Sounds like he should be "in the mix" and just might be a perfect hire if a change is made. Here's a guy who probably could keep the recruiting in tact and even improve it. I could envision him working with Russo and the other QB's given his background.

If things open up and he doesn't get a call for an interview etc then we would know Rutgers is not serious about attempting to get it right. But then someone just might beat us to the opportunity to get his services.

Of course if this should occur one could just see the SL headline of..."Rutgers Hires High School Coach" as opposed to Former Packer Coach Hired by Rutgers.

Great article that should also be on the premium board.
