Mike Teel Leaves RU to be OC at DB

Given the positions Mike has had, wonder if his career has been limited somewhat by wanting to stick around the NJ area? Steve Shimko is at the University of Georgia as a Offensive Graduate Assistant. Sam Williams to TFTFP.

He could have stayed as a GA at RU, maybe he did not want the life as a college coach.

He'll get some very good experience at Don Bosco, then he will have options whether to possibly take over for Coach Toal, or hit the college ranks again.

Paycheck? HS OC's don't make a paycheck, they make pocket cash. Even at DB, assistants only make $10-$12K. You could make more at McDonalds...part time.

I'd need to verify your numbers, but he was making pocket change as a GA at Rutgers, too.

I do not believe all coaches are treated equally at these schools but I could be wrong. Did he also take some sort of position at the school besides coaching as well?

Teel's career path could end up very similar to that of ex-BC/ex-NFL Augie Hoffmann at St. Joes (Montvale).

If he has a college degree from Rutgers and being a star QB, why is he making pocket change? He could easily make six-figure salary in sales. He could even get funding to start his own company with his resume.

Maybe he finds helping young people to be rewarding.

You can only be a GA for two years, Mike only had 6 months left as a GA & then would have had to be hired in a different capacity in order to stay on at RU.

He is climbing the coaching ladder. A Don Bosco OC is likely to be hired as head coach at another HS eventually. He also has a better chance at being a position coach on the offensive side in college with OC experience.

I wish Mike the best. A true loyal son. Took a lot of shit, held his head high and always bled scarlet. I think this is great for RU which is the only thing I care about. Don't know if there are currently prospects at DB that we need. Teel will be a great cheerleader for us. We need more of them. A lot more of them. Not dickhead HS coaches who want to steer their kids to big name programs so they can brag at cocktail parties.

Do you miss the part where he will also be a teacher at Bosco. So Yes He may make a 10- 15K stipend for coaching but that is on top of his Teaching Salary.

He has essentially been an unpaid intern for 2 years.

I believe that another thread mentioned that Teel would be a physical education teacher in addition to being OC of the football team.

Good for Teel. I am not sure if Bosco has the same benefits as the public schools but if it is close he will be ok financially and in the 6 figure range in no time.

You can be a GA for a third year if you have completed 24 grad credits by the end of your 2nd year.

Hooray for you, Mike Teel! You will do well & we look forward to great things!

Now ... who might come on board to contribute to RU in that GA spot where Mike had been for the last year & 1/2?
- is now the time for Brian Leonard to explore a coaching future?
- does Mike McMahon get a shot at something?
- is there another individual already lined up to step in here?

LOL

Um No.

If comparable to a public he'll make a nice living. Did he get a Masters? A Masters gives you a nice bump but he won't be making 6 figures even with an advanced degree and a healthy coaching stipend for about 15 maybe 20 years.

Unless he sells his soul and makes a jump to administration but I don't think he could still coach then. And by selling his soul I mean he writes campaign checks to the politicos on his local BOE in which case he'll be a teacher for 25 min. and then have an admin job he is totally unqualified for but then yes, he will be making the 6 figures.

That's the way it works under the regime I'm a drone to at least.

He's building his resume. Even just a year with the Fridge was a great learning experience.

How great it must be or Mike to be involved with the School and Program at which he started his career. I have no doubt that he will do very well being back home.

A head coaching gig at one of the north jersey parochial schools will net a guy around 100k - that includes his in-school position, camp money, etc..

It ain't easy getting one of those jobs and Teel is set up well to do it. Good luck to him.

Ahhh! The sweetest plum that hadn't occurred to me. Yes, that might get him close.

And FWIW a trusted source of mine says Teel leaving has way more to do with Flood boobery than resume building or love of Bosco or any other reasoning given so far ITT.

Interesting...thought we would have seen this type of comment much earlier in the thread.
